Howell and Stahl to Play Football at Centre College
Mason County seniors Stephen Howell and Nathan Stahl have committed to play football at Centre College in Danville. Mason County coach David Buchanan says both Howell and Stahl "are very strong students, I think they'll do well [at Centre]."
Buchanan says Howell is a versitile guy who could play some fullback and or inside linebacker at Centre.
"Nathan is guy that talent-wise, you know, I wouldn't say that he's an elite player," Buchanan said. "But as far as attitude and the way that we jerked him around (to play different positions), and he accepted that to make the team better, he is an elite guy when it comes to attitude and putting the team first."

Browning and Swisher Sign With Colleges
Two Mason County athletes-Tony Browning and Erica Swisher- signed with colleges this afternoon. Browning signed to play basketball at Kentucky Christian University in Grayson, and Swisher signed to play golf at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.
KCU coach Will Shouse says he feels like the Knights are really getting a steal with Browning.
Shouse said he thinks Browning kind of "flew under the radar a little bit," and he thinks Browning will be a real good fit for the Knights.
Swisher has been a member of the Mason County girls' golf team since the 7th grade. She played in five state tournaments. Swisher said she is excited to be a part of the Kentucky Wesleyan program.
"We're just now starting to build it up from where it used to be," Swisher said. "So, hopefully, I can help turn the golf program around, and bring it back to where it needs to be."

Lady Bears Beat Lady Royals Get Top Seed in District
The Bracken County Lady Bears defeated the Mason County Lady Royals 11-1 in fast-pitch softball last night in Brooksville. The win gives Bracken County the number one seed in the district tournament and a berth in the regional tournament. Mason County beat Bracken County 9-2 on March 27. With the teams 1-1 against each other, KHSAA rules say the winner of the second game gets the top seed in the district. Since the 39th District only has three teams,
Bracken County receives a bye. Number two seed Mason County will play number three seed St. Patrick at 5 p.m. May 21 at the Maysville-Mason County Recreation Park. The winner of that game will play Bracken County in the championship game at 6:30 p.m. May 21.
Both the district champion and runner-up advance to the 10th Region Tournament.

Mourning the Death of Danny Boyd
The community is mourning the death of Danny Boyd. Boyd, the longtime statistician for the Mason County boys' basketball team, died Thursday. Boyd was a member of Central Baptist Church and a supply preacher for area churches. In recent years, he was a substitute teacher at Mason County High School. Boyd ran the scoreboard at the Mason County Lady Royals' home softball games, and he was going to be the coach of the boys' golf team next season. He loved the Mason County teams, but there was no doubt that his priorities were his faith, his family and his friends. Danny and I always greeted each other the same way-one of us would say "Hi Danny," and the other would respond with "Hi Danny." We did that for the last time when we saw each other at the softball game Tuesday. Whenever anyone yelled "Danny" near the scorer's table at The Fieldhouse we both turned around to see who it was. Most of the time, they were wanting Danny, not me.
Danny always gave the Royals' starters a fist pound as they passed the scorer's table on their way to the center circle before each game. He cheered for the Lady Royals softball team as he ran the scoreboard Tuesday. He really cared about the kids.
Danny was one of the first statisticians in the area to keep stats on a laptop computer. I could always count on having the latest stats before, during and after the games. Danny served as the official statistician for the district and regional tournaments. He rushed to get the stat sheets to the teams as soon as they came off the printer.
I have not only lost a stat man, I have also lost a friend.
Our prayers go out for Danny's wife, Darlene, his three daughters and 11 grandchildren.
