Mason County archery team qualifies for Elite Tournament

The Mason County archery team finished 31st out of 133 teams in 3D and 113th out of 262 teams in Bullseye at the National Archery in Schools Program National Eastern tournaments in Louisville.

Landen Bowling led the Royals in both tournaments. He had scores of 284 in both tournaments with 17 Tens in 3D and 15 Tens in Bulls eye.

Shalee Bess had Mason County's second highest scored in 3D: 280 with 16 Tens. She was followed by Anthony Ventura with a 278 and Jake Hardeman, DeAnna Roberts and Jacob Brown with 275s.

Ventura had a 281 in Bullseye with 13 Tens followed by Roberts and Anastasia Williams with 279s.

Mason County qualified for the Elite Tournament in Nashville in both divisions.

Mason County boys archery team wins second straight KHSAA Region 7 championship

The Mason County boys archery team won its second straight KHSAA Region 7 championship and Mason County junior Landen Bowling won the individual region championship today at The Fieldhouse.

The Royals had a team score of 1,936. Pendleton County was the runner-up with a score of 1,926.

Bowling had a score of 293 and had 24 Tens. He edged Harrison County seventh grader Taylor Conway by two points.

Mason County senior Anthony Ventura finished in fourth place with a score of 284. He had 18 Tens.

Mason County archery team 2nd at Harrison County Invitational

The Mason County High School archery team took second place at the Harrison County Invitational Saturday.

Mason County had a team score of 3,240. Pendleton County won the tournament with a score of 3,284.

Landen Bowling led Mason County with a score of 283 followed by Anthony Ventura with a score of 282. Both had 16 tens.

Mason County archers 2nd in Mason County Fall Shoot

The Mason County archery team finished second in the Mason County Fall Shoot Saturday at The Fieldhouse.

Ryle won the tournament with a score of 3,357. Mason County had a score of 3,282.

Mason County junior Landen Bowling was fourth in the boys' standings with a score of 284. He had 16 tens.

Mason County senior Anthony Ventura took fifth place with a score of 283 and 18 tens.

Three Mason County girls were in the Top 10 of the high school girls' standings- sophomore DeAnna Roberts was fifth with a score of 279 and 13 tens, senior Anastasia Williams was seventh with a score of 277 and 11 tens and freshman Laney Gifford was eighth with a score of 273 and 11 tens.

News and notes

Here are some local sports news and notes:
  • Former Mason County basketball and football standout Jordan Gilbert has joined the boys' basketball coaching staff at Clark County. Gilbert played college basketball at Transylvania University and Asbury University. He was the freshman coach at Mercer County last season. 
  • Mason County senior Whitney O'Mara started and scored four points for the Kentucky All-Stars in an 82-74 victory in the 26th Annual Holloway Ohio-Kentucky All-Star Game Sunday.
  • The Mason County football team began spring practice Monday. The spring game is scheduled on April 27.
  • The KHSAA State Archery Championship is Thursday, April 20 at Kentucky Basketball Academy in Lexington. Mason County archers competing in the state championship include Landen Bowling, Joshua Brown, DeAnna Roberts and Anthony Ventura. Gates open to the public at 8:30 a.m.
  • May 30th-June 1st are the dates for the St. Patrick Saints Basketball Camp. The camp is for girls and boys in grades 2 through 8 in the 2017-18 school year. The fee is $35 per child if enrolled by May 19th or $40 after May 19th.
  • The 5th Annual Darius Miller and Chris Lofton Skills Camp is set for June 21st-23rd at the Tom Browning Boys and Girls Club. The early bid fee is $100 until May 1st. The fee after May 1st is $125.Check out the camp website for more information.
