Bourbon County beats Mason County 73-68 in OT

The Bourbon County Colonels beat the Mason County Royals 73-68 in overtime tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County rallied from a nine-point deficit and led by four points in the fourth quarter.

With the game timed, the Royals held the ball for over a minute but missed the last shot in regulation.

The Colonels outscored the Royals 11-6 in the overtime period.

Mason County was just 2-of-19 on three-pointers and had 20 turnovers.

The Colonels outrebounded the Royals 52-43 including 24-12 on the offensive glass.

Bourbon County senior Titus Ransom had a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.

Mason County senior Jayden Steward scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Leevi Dunaway scored 21 points before fouling out with 16 seconds left in overtime.

Jaylen Lofton scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds.

It's the first time Bourbon County has won two straight games against Mason County since the 1996-97and 1997-98 seasons. The Colonels won last season's game against the Royals 86-79 in overtime. 

It's the Colonels' first win over the Royals at The Fieldhouse since December 13, 1996.

Mason County hosts Scott Friday night.

Bourbon Co. stops conversion, edges Mason Co. 27-26

Bourbon County stopped Mason County's conversion run with 41 seconds left in the game and the Colonels edged the Royals 27-26 tonight in a district game on Mason County's Homecoming.

Bourbon County had taken a 27-20 lead with a touchdown and a two-point conversion with 4:28 remaining in the game.

Mason County quarterback Chandler Dunaway scored a touchdown on a 15-yard run, but he was stopped on a run as the Royals tried for a two-point conversion.

Coach Jonathan Thomas said it was an easy call to go for two.

"Just because, you know, we had marched the ball down the field, and you look over here on the sideline and we've got multiple kids hurt, multiple kids gassed, multiple kids that can't do a whole lot, so I really didn't think that playing for overtime was a wise decision with, you know, our numbers and, you know, as tired as everybody was," Thomas said. 

For the second straight game, Mason County scored in the opening minute of the game. Tykeise Henry returned an interception 25 yards for touchdown on the fourth play.

Henry also had a 25-yard touchdown reception in the first quarter.

Bourbon County led 19-13 at the half.

The Royals regained the lead on a 31-yard touchdown run by Malkolm Devine and a PAT by Brock Gilligan with 3:15 left in the third quarter.

Mason County had a turnover and a three-and-out before Bourbon County took the lead for good.

Bourbon County had 413 total yards to 274 for Mason County.

Quarterback Dalen Landrum, who missed the Colonels' last two games with an injury, completed 26 of 36 passes for 306 yards and four touchdowns,

Bourbon County receiver Titus Ransom had 13 receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns.

Devine rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

Mason County, 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the district, plays at Harrison County next week.

Royals to host Bourbon County on Homecoming

The Mason County Royals host the Bourbon County Colonels on Homecoming tonight.

Both teams are 3-2 overall. Mason County is 0-1 in district play after last week's 27-21 overtime loss to the Scott Eagles. Tonight's game is the district opener for Bourbon County.

The Colonels have been hit hard by injuries. Junior quarterback Dalen Landrum has missed the last two games. 

Senior wide receiver Titus Ransom is Bourbon County's offensive leader. He has 24 receptions for 446 yards and six touchdowns. He has also rushed for one touchdown.

The Bourbon County defense is led by senior linebacker Dalton Williams who has made 88 tackles including 53 solo tackles

Kickoff is at 7:30.

• Bourbon County defeated Mason County 24-13 last season. The two teams combined for 10 turnovers, including six by the Royals.
• Bourbon County leads the series 9-4 and has won the last four meetings. 
• The Royals' last win over the Colonels was in 2010.

Bourbon Co. outlasts Mason Co. 86-79 in OT

The Bourbon County Colonels outscored the Mason County Royals 15-8 in the overtime period for an 86-79 victory tonight at Bourbon County.

It's the Colonels' first win over the Royals since 2005.

Bourbon County led by nine points in the second quarter, but Mason County rallied with a 14-2 run and led 34-32 at the half.

The Royals led by 11 points in the third quarter and by eight in the fourth quarter.

Mason County missed two shots in the closing seconds of regulation. 

Leevi Dunaway scored a game-high 33 points before fouling out with 2:08 left in overtime.

Isaiah Garrison scored 15 points. Garrison and Caleb Boyd also fouled out in the extra period.

Bourbon County was led in scoring by Titus Ransom with 28 points. He fouled out with 58 seconds remaining in overtime.

Ameryon Blackburn scored 10 of his 19 points in the extra period.

Mason County plays at Scott Friday night.

Royals head to Paris to play the Bourbon County Colonels

The Mason County Royals will be looking to go 2-0 in the district when they travel to Paris Friday night to play the Bourbon County Colonels. Here are a few fast facts:

• Mason County, coming off a 21-15 victory over Scott, will try to win consecutive wins for the first time since September 26 and October 3, 2014.
• This is Mason County's third straight road game. The final four games of the regular seasons are at home.
• Bourbon County is 1-4, but the Colonels have played a tough schedule with losses to Rockcastle County (38-7), Madison Central (15-0), Madison Southern (35-7) and Paintsville (17-16). Bourbon County defeated Clark County 25-9 last week.
• This is Bourbon County's district opener and it's Homecoming.
• The Colonels have used three quarterbacks- Kenton Edwards, Austen Hamelback and Trevor Lucky. Lucky has completed 41 of 69 passes for 459 yards and six touchdowns. Edwards, a transfer from Madison Central, has completed 26 of 54 passes for 204 yards.
• Titus Ransom is the Colonels' top receiver with 37 receptions for 350 yards and four touchdowns.
• Adam Renfro is Bourbon County's leading rusher with 219 yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries.
• Bourbon County leads the series 8-4. The Colonels have won three straight over the Royals including 30-14 last season after Mason County led 14-0 at halftime.
