Lady Royals edge Rowan County 1-0

Johnna Bush scored off an assist from Aubrey Gross and goalkeeper Eden Abshire had nine saves as the Mason County Lady Royals snapped a three-match losing streak with a 1-0 victory over the Rowan County Lady Vikings on Wednesday night in Morehead.

Mason County (5-6) will play at Russell on Monday night.

Volleyball and soccer recaps

The Mason County Lady Royals volleyball team rallied to beat the Fleming County Lady Panthers 2-1 on Monday night in Flemingsburg.

Fleming County took the first set 25-16, but the Lady Royals won the next two 25-20 and 25-22.

Mason County (8-7) will host Robertson County on Tuesday night.

Halle Pfeffer had 24 digs, Hayley Allison and Kennedy Bevins each had 14 digs and Kyleigh Kirk had 19 assists.

The Mason County Lady Royals soccer team lost to the East Carter Lady Raiders 5-3 on Monday at Grayson.

Eden Abshire scored two goals, Aubrey Gross added a goal and Harley Durham-Campbell assisted on all three goals.

The Lady Royals (4-4) will host the Bourbon County Lady Colonels on Wednesday night.

The Mason County Royals soccer team fell to the Montgomery County Indians 6-2 on Monday night at home.

Noah Gardner scored a goal and had an assist on a goal by Mason Tackett.

The Royals (4-5) will travel to Cynthiana on Tuesday to play the Harrison County Thorobreds.

The St. Patrick Saints soccer team lost to the Bishop Brossart Mustangs 12-0 on Monday night in Alexandria.

The Saints picked up their first win on Saturday by shutting out the Paris Greyhounds 5-0.

The Saints (1-5) will play at Ripley this Saturday.

Lady Royals shutout Pendleton County 4-0

Harley Durham-Campbell scored two goals and had an assist as the Mason County Lady Royals shutout the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats 4-0 on Wednesday in Falmouth.

Aubrey Gross and Jasilin Shields each scored a goal. Eden Abshire had two assists and Natalie Thurman had one assist. Goalkeeper Emma Sims had six saves.

Mason County (2-2) will be back in action on Monday at home vs. the West Carter Lady Comets.

Grutza scores two goals including the game-winner in Lady Royals' 3-2 victory over Harrison County

Madie Grutza scored two goals including the last second game-winner as the Mason County Lady Royals edged the Harrison County Fillies 3-2 in their home opener on Wednesday.

Eden Abshire scored the Lady Royals' other goal. Cadence Garrison had an assist.

Mason County (1-1) will play at Walton-Verona on Monday.

Mason County tennis players lose in the opening round of the state tennis tournament

Mason County's state qualifiers all lost in the opening round of the KHSAA Tennis State Championships presented by UK HealthCare on Tuesday in Lexington.

In boys' singles, Evan Smith lost 1-6, 5-7. In boys' doubles, Sam Clarke and Alex Wood lost 3-6, 3-6, and in girls' doubles, Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire lost 1-6, 6-4, 0-1 (6-10).

Tennis State Championships brackets published

The brackets for the KHSAA Tennis Championships presented by UK HealthCare have been published.

Here are the matchups for the Mason County players:

Boys Singles 

Evan Smith vs. Cooper Ostermeier of Southwestern, Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Sayre Athletic Complex.

Boys Doubles

Sam Clarke and Alex Wood vs. Vincente Garcia and Alexios Cornwell of North Hardin, Tuesday at 10:15 a.m. at Lexington Christian Academy.

Girls Doubles

Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire vs. Gabrielle Browning and Hope Dupin of Simon Kenton, Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the University of Kentucky.

Tickets for the tournament are available online only at https://gofan.co/app/school/KHSAA . Tickets purchased before the day of the event are $15. Game day tickets will cost $18 per day. Tickets purchased for the first day of the tournament will be valid at all sites.

Mason County tennis players lose to GRC in region semis, advance to state

Mason County tennis players who advanced to the semifinals of the regional tournaments were defeated by George Rogers Clark players on Thursday. 

Evan Smith lost his singles match 6-2, 5-7, 14-16.

In doubles, Alex Wood and Sam Clarke lost 4-6, 2-6, and Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire lost 2-6, 1-6.

All of the semifinalists have qualified for the state tournament.

Five Mason County players advance in regional tournaments, three suffer losses

Five Mason County tennis players punched their tickets to the state tournament by advancing to the semifinals of the regional tournaments with wins while three players were eliminated on Wednesday. 

No. 2 seed Evan Smith won his quarterfinal singles match 6-0, 6-1.

The girls' doubles teams of Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire and the boys' doubles team of Sam Clarke and Alex Wood also advanced to the semifinals.

Boone and Abshire won 6-1, 7-5 while Clark and Wood pulled out a 6-1, 4-6, 10-5 victory.

Three singles players suffered losses. Tori Lavinder lost 6-4, 4-6, 7-10, Juan Carlos fell 3-6, 1-6 and Ellen Clarke lost 6-7, 2-6.

Several Mason County players advance in girls' 10th Region tennis tournament

The girls' 10th Region tennis tournament got underway on Monday with several Mason County players posting victories.

In singles matches, No. 3 seed Tori Lavinder won 6-0, 6-1 in the Round of 16 and Ellen Clarke won 6-1, 6-1 in the Round of 32 and 6-0, 6-0 in the Round of 16. 

In doubles, Olivia Jackson and Annabel Jackson advanced with a 6-0,6-0 victory in the Round of 32 and No. 3 seed Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire were 6-2, 6-4 winners in the Round of 16.

Royals lose to GRC in tennis team region semis; seeds announced for singles and doubles tournament

The Mason County Royals lost to the George Rogers Clark Cardinals 3-0 in the 10th Region tennis team tournament on Saturday at Bourbon County.

The individual and doubles region tournaments start on Monday.

According to Coach Clay Boone for the first time in program history, Mason County has seeded players in all girls' and boys' events.

Here are the seeds:

No. 2 boys' singles, Evan Smith

No. 3 girls' singles, Tori Lavinder

No. 3 girls' doubles, Bailey Boone and Eden Abshire

No. 4 boys' doubles, Sam Clark and Alex Wood

Lady Royals beat West Carter on Senior Night

Eden Abshire, Hailey Henderson and Bailey Boone each scored a goal as the Mason County Lady Royals celebrated Senior Night with a 3-1 victory over the West Carter Lady Comets on Monday night at home.

Kambria Thomas, Madie Grutza and Harley Durham-Campbell each had an assist.

Mason County (9-2-2) had won three of its last four matches.

The Lady Royals will host the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats on Monday night at the intermediate school field.

Mason County and Powell County split girls' and boys' soccer DH

Harley Durham-Campbell and Sarah Payne both had a hat trick and a goal as the Mason County Lady Royals ran their record to 5-0 with a 7-1 win over the Powell County Lady Pirates in the 10th Region All "A" Classic on Saturday at Mason County.

Eden Abshire had a goal and an assist and Kambria Thomas had two assists.

Durham-Campbell has scored 14 goals this season.

The Lady Royals will host the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Monday night.

The Mason County Royals lost to the Powell County Pirates 2-1 on Saturday night. The Royals will be back in action on Tuesday night at home vs. the East Carter Raiders.

Harley Durhan-Campbell scores seven goals in Mason County's first two games

Mason County sophomore Harley Durham-Campbell has scored all seven goals for the 2-0 Lady Royals.

Mason County opened the season on Monday night with a 3-2 road win over the Bourbon County Lady Colonels and defeated the Harrison County Fillies 4-2 in Cynthiana on Wednesday night.

Eden Abshire leads the Lady Royals in assists with three.

Mason County will be back in action on Saturday when they play the West Carter Lady Comets in Olive Hill at 11 a.m.

Bryce Pollitt wins individual title and leads Royals to a third place finish in the Mason County Fall Shoot

Bryce Pollitt won the indvidual title and led the Mason County Royals archery team to a third place finish at the Mason County Fall Shoot on Saturday at The Fieldhouse.

Great Crossing won the tournament with a score of 3241 edging Montomery County by five points. Mason County tallied a score of 3213. Fleming County finished in fourth place (3205). 

Pollitt had 22 Tens and posted a score of 290 out of a possible 300.

Dillon Mitchell was fourth overall at 284 with 16 Tens. 

Eden Abshire was next for Mason County with a score of 279 and 16 Tens. She ranked 10th overall and seventh out of 128 high school girls.

Lady Royals advance in Kentucky 2A Championships Section 6 soccer tournament

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the Rowan County Lady Vikings 4-2 Tuesday night in the semifinals of the Kentucky 2A Championships Section 6 girls' soccer tournament.

The Lady Royals won in a shootout to run their record to 3-2.

Harley Durham-Campbell scored two goals, Sarah Payne had a goal and an assist and Eden Abshire scored a goal.

Goalkeeper Kaelyn Henning had 10 saves.

The Lady Royals will play the Estill County Lady Engineers in the championship game Thursday at Estill County.

Mason County boys' archery team headed to state after winning region championship

The Mason County boys' archery team won the Region 7 tournament today at the Montgomery County Arena and earned a berth in next month's KHSAA state tournament.

The Royals had a team score of 1,948. Harrison County was the runner-up with a total of 1,942.

Mason County was led by freshman Colton Kinney and senior Jacob Brown with 287s. Kinney had 20 Tens and Brown finished with 17 Tens.

Harrison County won the girls' tournament. Mason County finished in fifth place. 

The Lady Royals were led by sophomore Addison Grosser and eighth grader Eden Abshire with 262s. Grosser had 11 Tens and Abshire had eight Tens.
