Lady Royals 14th, Royals 19th at Meet of Champions

The Mason County Lady Royals took 14th place and the Mason County Royals finished in 19th place in the Meet of Champions cross country meets Saturday at Masterson Station Park in Lexington Saturday.

Freshman Hayden Faris led the Lady Royals with a 23rd place finish in 21:13.66.

Sophomore Connor Linville led the Royals with a 33rd place finish in 17.12.79.

St. Patrick junior Paco Franco finished 77th in 18:00.77.

The Mason County Middle School girls team took fifth place in the middle school meet. That's the highest finish at the middle school level in school history.

Four St. Patrick runners compete in GRC Coaches Classic

Two girls and two boys from St. Patrick competed in the George Rogers Clark Coaches Classic cross country meet Saturday.

In the girls varsity race, Allison Hughes was 27th in 25:15.67 and Ann Porter was 44th in 27:29.71.

In the boys varsity race, Paco Franco was 30th in 19:23.50 and Willie Franco was 47th in 20:18.40.

Three St. Patrick varsity runners compete in Boyd Co. XC meet

Three St. Patrick varsity runners competed in the Boyd County cross country meet. 

In the girls' race, sophomore Anna Porter finished 33rd in 24:38.

In the boys' race, junior Paco Franco finished 17th in 18:28 and sophomore Willie Franco finished 44th in 19:39.

Weekend Wrap-up

The Mason County girls and boys cross country teams swept the Elliott County Pride Run Saturday.

Five St. Patrick varsity cross country runners competed in the Double S Stampede in Georgetown, Ky. Junior Paco Franco finished sixth in the boys race in 18:56.51.

The Mason County boys golf team posted its best score of the season- 327- at the Grant County Classic. Mason Butler led the way with a 75. Bryan Walton followed with a 76.

Paco Franco invited to XC training in Australia

St. Patrick sophomore Paco Franco has been invited to participate in a week-long cross country training program in the Down Under Sports Tournament in Australia this summer.

Franco will be participating on the East Conference Cross Country Team. 

He is looking for sponsors to help with the expenses.

Race and Raffle for Paco is scheduled May 13. The run/walk will begin and end at St. Patrick School.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

The entry fee is $20. Checks should be made payable to Down Under Sports.

Franco will be my guest on SportsTalk Friday at 8:05 a.m. on Soft 96.

St. Patrick has a strong showing in Double S Stampede

St. Patrick sophomore Paco Franco finished third in the Double S Stampede cross country meet Saturday in Georgetown, Ky. Franco had a time of 19:05.6.

St. Patrick freshman Willie Franco took ninth place in a time of 20:04.4.

St. Patrick freshman Anna Porter finished sixth in the girls' race with a time of 26:02.00

Mason County Girls, Boyd County Boys Win Area 7 Championships

The Mason County girls and the Boyd County boys cross country teams won the Area 7 Championships today in Elliott County.

Mason County won the girls championship by six points over Montgomery County and Fleming County. Boyd County won the boys title by seven points over Russell.

Nicholas County senior Shelby Watkins won the girls race with a time of 18:23. 

Three Mason County runners finished in the top 20- junior Rheagan Sizemore 10th (20:16), freshman Abigail Dawson 16th (21:03) and seventh grader Hayden Faris 17th (21:03.80).  

Fleming County also had three runners in the top 20- junior Olivia Leet 3rd (19:13), senior Julie Perkins 14th (20:42) and senior Abby Fearin 19th (21:37).

Boyd County freshman Elijah Miller won the boys race with a time of 16:09. 

Mason County senior Tanner Kirkland was 13th (17:41) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (18:12).

Mason Co. Girls Second, Augusta Boys 6th in Roy Wright Invitational

The Mason County girls cross country team took second place in Rowan County's Roy Wright Invitational Saturday. The Lady Royals were led by junior Rheagan Sizemore who finished fourth in a time of 20:53.70.

Four other Lady Royals finished in the top 20- freshman Abigail Dawson was 14th (22:24.90), seventh grader Hayden Faris was 15th (22:33.08), freshman Chloe Adams was 17th (22:53.40) and sophomore Reagan Bierley was 20th (23:01.90).

The Augusta Panthers finished in sixth place in the boys race and were led by senior Camyrn Snapp with a second place finish in a time of 17:49.40.  Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate was 13th (18:57.80), Augusta sophomore David Reed was 16th (19:10.60) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (19:16.50).
