In their first game following the dismissals of senior starters Jayden Stewart and Caleb Boyd, the Mason County Royals lost to the Paris Greyhounds 56-49 tonight at Paris.
The Royals also were without junior point guard Jaylen Lofton who missed his third straight game.
Paris jumped out to a 9-0 lead and was up 24-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Mason County closed to within four points at the end of the first half.
After the Greyhounds went up by 11 in the third quarter, the Royals closed the gap to five at the end of the third quarter.
Mason County trimmed Paris' lead to two at 46-44 with 5:34 to play, but the Greyhounds answered with a 7-2 run which included two three-pointers by senior guard Eric Johnson.
The Greyhounds made three of four free throws in the final minute to seal their first home court win over the Royals since 1990.
Johnson scored a game-high 23 points.
Leevi Dunaway led Mason County in scoring with 21 points.
The Royals host Boyd County Saturday afternoon.

Mason County sweeps Fleming County in DH at The Fieldhouse
Mason County swept a girls and boys doubleheader against Fleming County tonight at The Fieldhouse.
The Lady Royals ran their winning streak to a season-high four games with a 68-33 victory over the Lady Panthers.
The Royals used an 18-3 run in the second half to earn their 19th straight win over the Panthers with a 70-58 victory.
Kara Moran and Haley May led the Lady Royals in scoring with 10 points apiece.
Jayden Steward had a double-double for the Royals with 22 points and 13 rebounds.
Leevi Dunaway scored 17 points and Caleb Boyd hit three three-pointers and added 15 points.
The Lady Royals host Highlands Thursday night.
The Royals' next game is Friday night at home against Ashland

Royals rally for road win over Holmes
The Mason County Royals outscored the Holmes Bulldogs 18-8 in the fourth quarter for a 51-46 victory Saturday in Covington.
Holmes was just 3 of 31 (9.68 percent) from the field in the second half. The Bulldogs made their only fourth quarter field goal with just 15 seconds left in the game.
Both teams had 49 rebounds.
Leevi Dunaway and Jayden Steward both had double-doubles for Mason County. Dunaway had 19 points and 10 rebounds. Steward scored 12 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.
Mason County hosts Fleming County Tuesday night.

Camels top Royals 77-68
The Campbell County Camels scored the final six points of the game to seal a 77-68 victory over the Mason County Royals tonight at The Fieldhouse.
There were five ties and nine lead changes in the game.
Campbell County led by eight points in the second quarter.
Mason County was up 56-50 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but Campbell County went on a 17-4 run to lead 67-60 with just under five minutes to play.
The Royals closed to within 71-68 with 1:19 left, but the Camels hit 6 of 6 free throws in the final minute to record their 13th victory.
With Campbell County's leading scorer on the season- Reid Jolly- sidelined with an injury and an illness, senior guard Tanner Clos stepped up and scored a game-high 29 points.
Joel Day and Drew Wilson scored 12 points apiece.
Nate Schafer, who was averaging 1.8 points a game, scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter. He hit three three-pointers.
Mason County only played six players. Freshman guard Jeremiah Jones was out sick.
Leevi Dunaway also was under the weather, but he scored a team-high 19 points.
Jayden Steward scored 18 points, Jaylen Lofton had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Dalton Perkins followed with 10 points.
Mason County plays Holmes in Covington Saturday.

Dunaway's 3 at the buzzer gives Royals a 66-64 win over Breathitt County
Leevi Dunaway hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Mason County Royals a 66-64 victory over the Breathitt County Bobcats today in the seventh place game in the 63rd Ashland Invitational Tournament.
Breathitt County was without its leading scorer, Kyle Fraley who was injured in Thursday's game, but the Bobcats jumped out to a 10-point lead in the first quarter and were up by 11 in the third quarter.
Mason County closed the third quarter on an 18-8 run to pull within 51-50.
Jayden Steward swished a corner three to put the Royals ahead 63-62 with 27 seconds left.
The Bobcats regained the lead with a layup with 10 seconds remaining.
After a Mason County timeout, Dunaway hit the game-winning basket to snap the Royals' three-game losing streak.
Breathitt County suffered its eighth straight loss.
Mason County had four players in double figures led by Steward and Caleb Boyd with 16 points apiece.
Dunaway followed with 12 points and Jaylen Lofton added 11 points.
The Royals host Campbell County Wednesday night.

Royals routed by shorthanded Owensboro Catholic Aces 67-31
The Mason County Royals came out flat and were routed 67-31 by an Owensboro Catholic team that was without its two best players today in the consolation bracket of the 63rd Ashland Invitational Tournament.
Owensboro Catholic, without Luke Hayden, the 3rd Region pre-season player of the year, and senior point guard Maxwell Reid, jumped out to a 7-0 lead and was up 30-14 at halftime and 47-23 at the end of the third quarter.
After Mason County scored the first two points of the fourth quarter, Owensboro Catholic scored 16 straight points to put a running clock in effect with 3:07 left in the game.
Mason County shot 26 percent from the field including 1 of 16 on three-pointers, had 18 turnovers and was outrebounded 50-29.
"It's an absolute embarrassment," Coach Buddy Biggs said. "(I) apologize to our fans and our school and our community. We'll get back at it at 10 o'clock in the morning; we're going to practice and we'll come back down here and we'll play harder tomorrow at 2:30."
The Royals were led in scoring by Jayden Steward who scored 16 points.
Jaylen Lofton had six points and 10 rebounds.
Two starters- Leevi Dunaway and Dalton Perkins- were scoreless.
Mason County will play Breathitt County in the seventh place game Friday at 2:30 p.m.

Royals lose to Boyd Co. 82-74 in AIT opening game
The Mason County Royals fell behind early, played catch up the rest of the game and lost to the Boyd County Lions 82-74 today in the opening game of the 63rd Ashland Invitational Tournament.
Mason County trailed by 11 points in the first quarter, but rallied to tie the score at 29-29 in the second quarter.
Boyd County led 41-35 at halftime and 57-45 late in the third quarter.
The Royals closed to within two points at 72-70, but the Lions were able to hang on and advance to the semifinals.
Boyd County made 14 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Leevi Dunaway led Mason County in scoring with 24 points.
Jeremiah Jones followed with a career-high 16 points, Caleb Boyd tossed in 13 points and Jayden Steward added 12 points.
Mason County will play Owensboro Catholic Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the consolation bracket.

Dontaie Allen scores 46 points, Pendleton Co. hits 15 3's in 89-67 win over Mason County
Pendleton County junior Dontaie Allen had 46 points and 17 rebounds and the Wildcats made 15 three-pointers in an 89-67 win over the Mason County Royals tonight in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic at The Fieldhouse.
Allen had a double-double in the first half with 25 points and 10 rebounds.
Pendleton County hit nine three-pointers in the first half for a 47-37 lead.
Allen was 15 of 24 from the field including four of six on three-pointers. He also had eight assists.
Grant Walsh hit six three-pointers and scored 20 points and Cody Sullivan made four three-pointers for his 12 points.
Leevi Dunaway led Mason County in scoring with 22 points, but was held to two points in the second half.
Jayden Steward scored 14 of his 20 points in the third quarter.
Jeremiah Jones added 13 points.
The loss snapped Mason County's six-game winning streak.

The Mason County Royals ran their winning streak to five games with a 61-48 victory over the Dixie Heights Colonels tonight at The Fieldhouse.
The Royals trailed 17-8 in the first quarter but rallied with a 22-4 run.
Mason County outscored Dixie Heights 18-5 in the second quarter and led 36-24 at the half.
The Royals pushed the lead to 14 points at 42-28 in the third quarter.
After Dixie Heights scored eight straight points to cut the lead to six, the Royals responded with a 6-0 run to end the third quarter.
Mason County led by as many as 15 points in the fourth quarter.
Caleb Boyd made six of nine three-pointers and scored a career-high 20 points.
Jayden Steward had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Leevi Dunaway added 13 points.

Royals defeat Male 75-64 in Louisville
The Mason County Royals built an 18-point lead and withstood Male's rally for a 75-64 victory tonight in their first trip to the Louisville school.
Male jumped out to a 9-2 lead, but Mason County responded and led 25-16 at the end of the first quarter.
The Royals led 65-47 with six minutes left in the game.
Male pulled to within seven points and had a chance to cut the deficit to five but missed a dunk.
Leevi Dunaway, coming off a 49-point performance Thursday night, had a game-high 25 points.
Caleb Boyd made four three-pointers and scored a career-high 18 points.
Jayden Stewart added 11 points.
The Royals ran their winning streak to four games by shooting 51.9 percent from the field including 50 percent (7 of 14) on three-pointers. They hit 14 of 17 free throws (82.4 percent).

Mason County sweeps a doubleheader vs. Bracken County in 10th Annual Shoot for a Cure
Mason County swept Bracken County in a girls and boys doubleheader tonight in the 10th Annual Shoot for a Cure at Bracken County.
The Lady Royals led 41-23 at the half and beat the Lady Bears 65-30.
The Royals outscored the Polar Bears 22-9 in the third quarter on their way to a 69-45 victory.
The Lady Royals were led in scoring by Victoria Brooks and Haley May with 11 points apiece.
AJ Reed added 10 points.
The Lady Bears were led in scoring by Kaitlyn Wills with eight points.
Jaylen Lofton stuffed the stat sheet for the Royals with 20 points, seven rebounds, six assists and five steals.
Leevi Dunaway scored 17 points, Jayden Steward followed with 15 points and Caleb Boyd added 11 points.
Tad Fisher was Bracken County's leading scorer with 14 points.
The Royals play at East Carter Thursday night.
The Lady Royals host defending state champion Mercer County Saturday afternoon.

Royals edge Scott 73-72 at The Fieldhouse
Jayden Steward's basket on an inbounds play with four seconds left in the game gave the Mason County Royals a 73-72 victory over the Scott Eagles in a nail biter tonight at The Fieldhouse.
It was the 15th lead change in the game. There were six ties.
Mason County led 67-59 with just over three minutes to play, but committed five turnovers in the closing minutes.
An old fashion three-point play by Nelson Perrin gave Scott a 72-71 lead with 12 seconds to play.
Leevi Dunaway lost the ball driving into the lane, but dived on the ball, and a held ball was called.
The possession arrow pointed to Mason County.
After a Mason County timeout, Jaylen Lofton inbounded the ball to to a wide open Steward who banked in the winning shot.
Scott's heave at the buzzer bounced over the top of the backboard.
The win snapped Mason County's two-game losing streak.
Dunaway scored a game-high 23 points.
Lofton had a double-double with 17 points and 13 points.
Steward scored 16 points on 8-of-10 from the field.
Chad Ohmer led Scott in scoring with 20 points.

Bourbon County beats Mason County 73-68 in OT
The Bourbon County Colonels beat the Mason County Royals 73-68 in overtime tonight at The Fieldhouse.
Mason County rallied from a nine-point deficit and led by four points in the fourth quarter.
With the game timed, the Royals held the ball for over a minute but missed the last shot in regulation.
The Colonels outscored the Royals 11-6 in the overtime period.
Mason County was just 2-of-19 on three-pointers and had 20 turnovers.
The Colonels outrebounded the Royals 52-43 including 24-12 on the offensive glass.
Bourbon County senior Titus Ransom had a game-high 24 points and 13 rebounds.
Mason County senior Jayden Steward scored a career-high 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
Leevi Dunaway scored 21 points before fouling out with 16 seconds left in overtime.
Jaylen Lofton scored 17 points and had 12 rebounds.
It's the first time Bourbon County has won two straight games against Mason County since the 1996-97and 1997-98 seasons. The Colonels won last season's game against the Royals 86-79 in overtime.
It's the Colonels' first win over the Royals at The Fieldhouse since December 13, 1996.
Mason County hosts Scott Friday night.

Jaylen Lofton scored a career-high 29 points and Ty Fox had a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds (both career highs) to lead the Mason County Royals to a 67-56 road win over the Montgomery County Indians tonight.
Mason County, without suspended players Leevi Dunaway, Jayden Stewart and Tykeise Henry, led the whole game and snapped a three-game losing streak.
The Royals led by as many 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Montgomery County only shot 31.1 percent from the field and was 1-of-19 on three-point shots.
Mason County shot 57.7 percent from the field in the second half and 40 percent for the game.

The Rowan County Vikings made 17 three-pointers and defeated the Mason County Royals 92-75 tonight at the Fieldhouse.
Rowan County hit 12-of-18 on three-point shots in the first half.
The Vikings outscored the Royals 29-16 in the second quarter and led by 23 points in the third quarter,
Mason County closed to within 10 at 77-67 with 4:15 left in the game, but Rowan County answered with an 13-5 run.

Pendleton County outscores Mason County 111-91
The Pendleton County Wildcats scored 40 points in the first quarter and defeated the Mason County Royals 111-91 tonight at Pendleton County.
The Wildcats made 10 three-pointers in the first half and led by 20 in the second quarter.
The Royals closed to within six at 84-78 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but Pendleton County pulled away with a 20-5 run.
Pendleton County sophomore guard Dontaie Allen scored a game-high 44 points and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Greenup County outscores Mason County 96-80
The Greenup County Musketeers outscored the Mason County Royals 33-19 in the fourth quarter for a 96-80 win at the Fieldhouse tonight.
Mason County rallied from a 10-point deficit to take a 51-50 lead with 3:50 left in the third quarter.
Greenup County, after leading 63-61 at the end of third quarter, scored the first eight points of the fourth quarter, and ended up being a 15-3 run.
Mike Hubbert scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Gage Hughes added 27 points to lead Greenup County in scoring.
Leevi Dunaway scored a game-high 33 points for Mason County.
Jaylen Lofton followed with 15 points and Jayden Steward and Ty Fox both scored 12 points.
Mason County coach Buddy Biggs was sick and missed the game. Assistant coach Brian Miller coached the team.

Royals run past Harrison County 89-79
Another fast start and a strong finish gave the Mason County Royals an 89-70 victory over
the Harrison County Thorobreds tonight in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic at the Fieldhouse.
Mason County, using a fast break offense, even after Harrison County made shots, raced out to 24-6 lead in the first quarter and a 37-8 lead in the second quarter.
The Royals shot 64.5% from the field in the first half and led 46-22 at halftime.
Isaiah Garrison left the game with an injury with 6:12 left in the first quarter, and three Royals- Dalton Perkins, Caleb Boyd and Jaylen Lofton- fouled in the fourth quarter.
Harrison County got to within 10 points in the fourth quarter before the Royals pulled away again the closing minutes.
There were 32 fouls and 41 free throws in the second half.
Mason County hit 59.3% from the field for the game, to just 32.9% for Harrison County.
Leevi Dunaway had a double-double with 25 points and 12 assists.
Boyd scored a career-high 16 points.
Jayden Steward had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Sam Kumler was also in double digits with 13 points.
The Royals got 38 points off the bench.
Mason County's next game is Tuesday night against Boyle County in the Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County.

Mason Co, sweeps girls and boys DH vs. Bracken County
Mason County and Bracken County sweep a girls and boys doubleheader vs. Bracken County tonight at the Fieldhouse.
The Lady Royals jumped out to a 17-0 lead and cruised to a 69-24 victory over the Lady Bears.
The Royals outscored the Polar Bears 23-12 in the second quarter on their way to a 76-61 win.
The Lady Royals scored 30 points off the Lady Bears' 24 turnovers.
Briana McNutt led Mason County in scoring with 15 points.
Brianna Littleton added 10 points.
Madison Kalb was the Lady Bears' top scorer with 13 points.
Austin Crawford scored a game-high 33 points for the Polar Bears.
Isaiah Garrison scored a career high 31 points for Mason County.
Sam Kumler tossed in 13 points and Jayden Steward added 11 points.
