Adkins to walk-on at EKU, Myers will walk-on at MSU

Mason County track and field standouts Seth Adkins and Jim Myers will be rivals in college. Adkins will be a recruited walk-on at Eastern Kentucky University, while Myers will walk-on at Morehead State University.
Adkins was the region champion in the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash Saturday. He is also a member of Mason County's 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams that took first place in the region meet. Adkins set the school record in the 200 meter dash (21.9) at the Fleming County All-Comers Meet in April. He won the indoor 200 meters at Ohio State University. He was 27th in the 200 meters at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston. Adkins was second in the 55 meters and finished third in a school record time of 53.43 in the 400 meters at the Mason-Dixon Games.
Myers set the school record in the indoor 3,000 meter run (9:59.00) in February. He was a member of the 4x800 meter relay team that set a school record (9:17.23) at the Mason-Dixon Games. He won several races in 1600 meters, 3200 meters and 3000 meters. Myers finished eighth in the state cross country meet and was named All-State Honorable Mention by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Adkins 2nd in the 55m and 3rd in the 400m, four new school records set at Mason-Dixon Games

Mason County senior Seth Adkins finished second in the 55 meters (6.81) and third in the 400 meters (53.43) Saturday in the 50th Annual Mason-Dixon Games in Louisville. Adkins' time in the 400 meters is a new school record. Sophomore Valerie Rice finished 8th and set a new school record in the 800 meters in a time of 2:35.20. Two Mason County relay teams also set school records- the boys' 4x800 meter relay team of junior Connor Appelman, senior Jim Myers, 8th grader Nick Robinson and junior Nathan Woods (9:17.23), and the girls' 4x800 meter relay team of freshman Sarah Bellingham, freshman Raylee Kirkland, sophomore Valerie Rice and freshman Julia Woods (11:01.38). The Lady Royals' fifth place finish in the team standings is the best in school history. Mason County was ninth in the boys' meet. Here is a link to the results.

Deatley and Myers set schools at Mason County meet

Mason County seniors Ashley Deatley and Jim Myers both set school records at the Mason County track meet Saturday. Deatley set a record in the High Jump (4-10.00), and Myers set a record in the 3,000 meters (9:59.00). Mason County was fourth in the girls' meet and 12th in the boys' meet.
Mason County senior Seth Adkins won the indoor 200 meters at Ohio State University.
Adkins was the fastest Kentucky in the University of Kentucky select meet two weekends ago and qualified for the Nike National Indoor meet March 13 and 14 in Boston. Adkins is the first Mason County athlete to qualify for the Nike Indoor National meet since Andy Fryman won the Nike National in the shot put.

Myers win 3000 meter run at Mason County meet

Mason County senior Jim Myers won the 3000 meter run in a time of 10:09.45 at the Mason County indoor track meet Saturday. Mason County entered a limited number of athletes. Mason County will host its final indoor meet of the season this Saturday at noon at the US Bank/Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Facility. Admission is $5. Adkins 3rd in the 200 meter dash, girls 4x800 team sets school record

Mason County senior Seth Adkins finished third in the boys' 200 meter dash in a time of 22.80 in the Wildcat Classic indoor track and field meet at the University of Kentucky Saturday. The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Valerie Rice, Sarah Bellingham, Raylee Kirkland and Julia Woods set a new school record- 11:16.70- and finished 7th. Those same four girls had set the previous school record last year at the state indoor championships. Senior Jim Myers took 10th place in the boys' two-mile run with a time of 10:45.39. Mason County will host indoor meets the next five Saturdays.

Mason Co. hosts first indoor track and field meet of the season

Mason County hosted its first indoor track and field meet of the season Saturday. The Mason County high school and middle school boys' teams won their respective meets. The Mason County girls took third place in the high school meet and second place in the middle school meet. First place finishes by Mason County High School athletes include: Ashley Deatley in the girls' 400 meter dash, Seth Adkins in the boys' 55 meter dash and boys' 400 meter dash, Jim Myers in the boys' 3000 meter run, Brandon Jackson in the boys' long jump.

Woods 1st team All State, Myers Honorable Mention

Mason County freshman Julia Woods has been named to the girls' Class 2A Cross Country All State First Team by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association. Woods won her third straight region championship this year. Mason County senior Jim Myers received All State Honorable Mention recognition.

Woods and Lady Royals win region, Royals 2nd

Mason County freshman Julia Woods won her third straight individual regional title and the Lady Royals won the team title for the second consecutive year today at the Class AA Region 6 cross country meet at Boyd County. The Royals finished second in the boys' regional. Both teams advance to the state meet. It is the Mason County boys' first regional trophy since 1973. Woods won with a time of 20:35.90. Two other Lady Royals- freshman Raylee Kirkland and sophomore Valerie Rice- finished in the top 10. Kirkland was fourth and Rice was sixth.
The Royals were led by three top 10 runners- senior Jim Myers (6th), eighth grader Nick Robinson (7th) and junior Nathan Woods (8th). The state meet will be held next Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. Here are links to the Region 6 results:

Myers and Rice have Top 10 finishes in Meet of Champions

Mason County senior Jim Myers finished 8th in the boys' Class AA race (17:53.71) and Mason County sophomore Valerie Rice took 10th place (22:07.92) in the girls' Class AA race at the KTCCCA Meet of Champions at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

Mason County girls 2nd, boys 4th in Area 7 Championships

The Mason County girls took second place and the Mason County boys finished seventh in the varsity divisions of the Area 7 Championships Saturday at the Mason County cross country course. Mason County freshmen Julia Woods and Raylee Kirkland finished second and eighth respectively in the girls' 5K race. Mason County senior Jim Myers was fourth in the boys' 5K race. The Mason County girls and boys cross country teams swept the 5K races in the Mason County All Comers meet tonight. Mason County freshman Julia Woods won the girls' race and Mason County senior Jim Myers won the boys' race. Mason County will host the Area 7 Championships Saturday. Lady Royals 4th, Royals 6th at Dragon Invitational

The Mason County girls took fourth place and the Mason County boys finished in sixth place in the Dragon Invitational Saturday at Oldham County. Julia Woods led the Lady Royals with a sixth place finish in a time of 20:53.23. Jim Myers was the top runner for the Royals in sixth place with a time of 18:05.30. Here are links to the results:
