Melissa Hughes and Sarah Fite win Ladies 2-Day Scramble at KSGC

Melissa Hughes and Sarah Fite teamed up to win the Ladies 2-Day Scramble at Kenton Station Golf Course on Sunday.

Hughes and Fite began the final round with a four-shot lead after shooting a 63 in the first round on Saturday and won by four shots with a 36-hole total of 15-under 129.

Kelly Conner and Libby Moses finished second at 11-under. Tonie Soule and Sharlene Hall finished third at 8-under.

Sarah Fite promoted to associate head coach of women's golf at Transy

Former Mason County High School and University of Kentucky golfer Sarah Fite has been promoted to associate head coach of women's golf at Transylvania University. 

Fite was a volunteer assistant at Transy last season.

Fite won the Kentucky state championship and was named the Kentucky Golf Association State Player of the Year in 2016 during her senior season at Mason County. 

She also won the Kentucky Junior Masters Invitational in 2016. 

Fite was inducted into the 2021 class of the Frank G. Ham Society of Character at UK.

Most recently she has served as assistant director of junior golf at High Performance Golf Academy in Nicholasville. 

Frodge and Fite win the Ladies 2-Day Scramble at Laurel Oaks

Former Mason County Lady Royal teammates Jordan Frodge and Sarah Fite were the winning team in the Ladies 2-Day Scramble at Laurel Oaks Golf Course.

Frodge and Fite shot a 62 on Saturday and a 59 on Sunday for a 36-hole total of 23-under 121 and a nine-shot victory.

Amanda Brown and Laura Schild finished second at 14-under and Kelly Conner and Libby Moses were third at 10-under.

Sarah Fite T14 after 1st round of Kentucky Women's Open

Sarah Fite shot a 4-over 76 today at Danville Country Club and is T14 after the first round of the Kentucky Women's Open.

Fite is seven shots off the lead. She has a 8:50 a.m. tee time on Tuesday for the second round.

Fite and seven of her Kentucky teammates made the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll

All eight eligible members of the University of Kentucky women's golf team, including Mason County grad Sarah Fite, made the Southeastern Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

Fite loses to eventual champion in semis of Women's State Am

Former Mason County Lady Royal and current University of Kentucky Wildcat Sarah Fite lost to Rylea Marcum, a rising sophomore at Eastern Kentucky University, 6 & 4 in the semifinals of the 94th Women's Kentucky State Amateur Championship this morning at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville.

Marcum defeated former University of Kentucky Wildcat Sarah Shipley on the 20th hole of the championship match this afternoon.

Fite advanced to the semifinals with 4 & 3 victory in the first round, a 2 & 1 win in the second round and a 2-up victory in the quarterfinals.

Sarah Fite advances to semifinals of Women's State Am

Former Mason County Lady Royal Sarah Fite has advanced to the semifinals of the 94th Women's Kentucky State Amateur Championship.

Fite, the 2016 KHSAA Girls' State Golf Champion and a University of Kentucky golfer, plays Rylea Marcum Wednesday morning at the University of Louisville Golf Club in Simpsonville. The other semifinal match pits Ryan Bender vs. Sarah Shipley. The winners will meet in the championship match Wednesday afternoon.

Sarah Fite to be inducted into the Frank G. Ham Society of Character at UK

Former Mason County Royal Sarah Fite, a senior golfer at the University of Kentucky, is one of 24 UK student-athletes who will be inducted into 2021 class of the Frank G. Ham Society of Character.

The Society of Character honors UK student-athletes who have shown an extraordinary commitment to academic excellence, athletic participation, personal development, career preparation and serving as a role model.

Fite is a Kinesiology major and plans to pursue a career in strength and conditioning. She has appeared on the Dean's List three times and made the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2020.

Sarah Fite finishes 3rd in Kentucky Women's Stroke Play Championship

Mason County grad and University of Kentucky golfer Sarah Fite finished third in the Kentucky Women's Stroke Play Championship today at Griffin Gate Golf Club in Lexington.

Fite had a 36-hole total of 4-under 140. Ke'Asha Phillips of Owensboro, a member of the Xavier University golf team, won the tournament at 7-under.

Sarah Fite finishes T20 in Kentucky Women's Open

Sarah Fite finished T20 in the 24th Kentucky Women's Open at Heritage Hills Golf Club in Shepherdsville.

Fite, a 2017 graduate of Mason County High School and a rising senior on the University of Kentucky golf team, had a 36-hole total of five-over 149. Fite shot 74 in the first round on Tuesday and 75 in the final round on Wednesday.

Nishta Madan, a professional from Grand Rapids, Michigan, won the tournament at 12-under.

Sarah Fite T6 in Marion Miley Invitational

Mason County alum Sarah Fite, a rising sophomore at the University of Kentucky, tied for sixth place  at 10-over 154 in the Marion Miley Invitational at Lexington Country Club.

Fite shot a 78 Thursday and a 76 Friday and ended up  tied with 2017 KHSAA state champion and UK Signee Ryan Bender of Sacred Heart.

Fite was the 2016 KHSAA state champion.

UK rising senior Claire Collins won the tournament at even-par 144.

Another one of Fite's Kentucky teammates, rising junior Josephine Chang, finished third at four-over.

University of Kentucky freshman and Mason County alum Sarah Fite finished in 63rd place in the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational Saturday on the Big Blue Course at University Club of Kentucky in Lexington. It was Fite's first collegiate tournament. Kentucky finished in fourth place

The girls 38th District Soccer Tournament begins Monday night with the Mason County Lady Royals playing the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats at Pendleton County at 6 p.m

High school volleyball teams close the regular season this week. The Mason County Lady Royals play at Campbell County Wednesday night and host Ripley Thursday night. The St. Patrick Lady Saints have three matches this week: Tuesday night at Robertson County, Wednesday night at Fleming County and Thursday night at home vs. Augusta.

Former Mason County football coach David Buchanan picked up his 200th career win with Mercer County's 40-8 victory over West Jessamine Friday night. Buchanan had 31 wins in four season at Paris and 150 wins in 19 seasons at Mason County. Now in his third season at Mercer County, Buchanan has guided the Titans to 19 wins.

Fite State and Region Player of the Year, Arn Region Coach of the Year

Mason County senior Sarah Fite is the Kentucky Golf Association State Player of the Year and the Region 8 Player of the Year.

Mason County Lady Royals golf coach John Arn is the Region 8 Coach of the Year.

Fite is joined on the All-Region Team by Mason County teammates Jordan Frodge and Charity Arn.

Fite, a University of Kentucky signee, won the state championship last month at Bowling Green Country Club.

Mason County finished eighth in the state tournament for the second straight year.

Fite and Knox named to All-State golf teams

Mason County seniors Sarah Fite and B.J. Knox were named to the All-State golf teams announced Tuesday by Golf House Kentucky and the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation.

Fite, the girls state champion, earned a spot on the girls First Team for the second straight year. The teams are based on points compiled during the season. Fite had 680 points.

Knox had 490 points for a spot on the Second Team.

Sarah Fite wins state championship

Mason County senior Sarah Fite won the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls State Golf Championship today at Bowling Green Country Club.

Fite, who began the day tied for seventh place, fired a one-under 71 and had a two-day total of one-over 145 for a three-shot victory over Murray senior Sarah McDowell.

Fite had 13 pars, three birdies and two bogeys today. She has verbally committed to the University of Kentucky.

Mason County finished eighth in the team competition for the second straight year. Jordan Frodge had a two-day total of 22-over 166 and tied for 27th place.  Charity Arn (182), Erika Simms (206) and Haley White (214) rounded out the scoring for the Lady Royals. The top four scores were used for the team total. 

Fite is the third Mason County golfer to win an individual state championship. Mike Faurest won in 1964 and Jim Striplin was the 1972 state champion. Mason County won the boys team state golf championship in 1967.

Lady Royals 6th, Fite T7 at state golf tournament

The Mason County Lady Royals are in sixth place and Mason County senior Sarah Fite is tied for seventh place after the first round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls State Golf Championship at Bowling Green Country Club.

Mason County has a team score of  344. Sacred Heart tops the leaderboard at 315.

Fite shot a two-over 74 today and is three shots off the lead. Fite double bogeyed No. 1 then pared the next 10 holes. She followed a bogey on No. 12 with four straight pars. She birdied No. 17 and finished with a par.

Jordan Frodge shot a 79 and is tied for 18th place. Charity Arn had a 91, Erika Simms a 100 and Haley White a 105. The top four scores are used for the team score.

The final round is Wednesday.

Tee times set for state golf tournaments

The tee times are set for the Leachman-Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Championships at Bowling Green Country Club.

The girls tournament is Tuesday and Wednesday. The boys tournament is Friday and Saturday. The girls will play a practice round on Monday. The boys practice round is Thursday.

Mason County senior B.J. Knox and Fleming County junior Jordan Hughes are individual qualifiers for the boys tournament. Knox will start on Number 10 at 8:39 a.m. Hughes has an 11:39 a.m. tee time on Number 1.

Lady Royals headed back to state golf tournament

The Mason County Lady Royals qualified for the 2016 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Tournament with a runner-up finish in the Region 8 golf tournament today at the Pioneer Course at Kenton County Golf Courses in Independence.

Scott County won the tournament with a team score of 336. Mason County's total was 355.

Three Lady Royals finished in the Top 7- Sarah Fite with an 80, Jordan Frodge with an 85 and Charity Arn with an 86.

Haley White shot a 104. Erika Simms carded a 112. The top four scores are used for the team score.

The state tournament is October 4 and 5 at Bowling Green Country Club.

Sarah Fite individual champion, Lady Royals 2nd in their tournament

Mason County senior Sarah Fite fired a three-under 69 today at Maysville Country Club to win the individual title in the Mason County Lady Royals Invitational.

Mason County senior Jordan Frodge was the fifth runner-up with an 87

The Ryle Lady Raiders won the team title with a total of 340. Mason County was second at 344 and Morgan County was third at 390.
