Campbell County wrestlers Shotwell and Ilg sign with colleges

Campbell County seniors Korey Shotwell and Nathan "Nate" Ilg will continue their wrestling careers in college. Shotwell, a resident of Maysville, signed today with The Citadel in Charleston, SC. Ilg signed with Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. Ilg's grandparents, Bill and Mary Flynn, live in Mason County. Shotwell was a regional champion three out of the last four years. He finished third in the 145 pound class in the state tournament this past season. Shotwell is seventh on the national wins list with 276 career victories and holds five school records. Ilg won the region and finished seventh in the 189 pound class at the state tournament. Shotwell and Ilg were both named Kentucky Wrestling All-Stars by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Korey Shotwell nominated for LaRosa's MVP of the Week

Campbell County senior wrestler Korey Shotwell has been nominated for the LaRosa's MVP of the Week. Here is a link to the site. Shotwell is seventh on the national wins list with 276 career wins (grades 7-12). He finished his high school career with a 222-20 record (grades 9-12). He holds Campbell County High School records for single season takedowns (123), single season pins (40), career pins (147), career takedowns (535) and career record. Shotwell won a regional championship for the second straight year and the third time in four years. He took third place in the 145 pound class at the state tournament.

Shotwell takes third place at state wrestling tournament

Campbell County senior Korey Shotwell took third place in the 145 pound class at the state wrestling tournament. After winning his first three matches, Shotwell lost his semifinal match by fall to the eventual champion, Trinity senior Grant Ohlman. Shotwell bounced to win two matches for his second straight third place finish at the state tournament. He finishes the season with a 52-5 record.

Shotwell wins first round match at state tournament

Korey Shotwell won his opening round match in the state wrestling tournament Thursday. Shotwell, a senior at Campbell County, defeated Seneca junior Tim Williams in a fall at 1:27 in the 145 pound class. Shotwell's second round opponent is Meade County senior Joey Carter.

Korey Shotwell wins regional

Campbell County senior Korey Shotwell of Maysville has won a regional wrestling championship for the second straight year and the third time in four years. Shotwell won the Region 6 title at 145 pounds Saturday at Simon Kenton. Shotwell is 47-4 this season. The state wrestling tournament is Thursday through Saturday at the Frankfort Convention Center. Shotwell wins at Reading for the third time

Campbell County senior Korey Shotwell won the 145 pound weight class at the Reading High School Wrestling Tournament Saturday. He was also named Most Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament. It is the third time Shotwell has had a first place finish at Reading. Shotwell is the son of Matthew and Tami Shotwell of Maysville.

Korey Shotwell named an All-Star by the Cincinnati Enquirer

Campbell County junior Korey Shotwell of Maysville was named a Kentucky Wrestling All-Star by the Cincinnati Enquirer Sunday. Shotwell was the Region 6 champion in the 140-pound class. He finished third in the state tournament and had a record of 59-4 this season. This is the third time Shotwell has been named an All-Star by the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Shotwell finishes third at state

Campbell County junior Korey Shotwell of Maysville finished third in the 140-pound weight class in the state wrestling tournament. Shotwell went 6-1 in the tournament. He won four matches on Saturday, including a 11-0 major decision against Ohio County senior Andy Kiper in the third place match. Shotwell broke several Campbell County records during the state tournament. He will participate in the Junior Nationals in Virginia Beach, VA. next month.

Shotwell loses to top ranked Justin Davis

In a match between the top two wrestlers in the 140-pound weight class, Campbell County junior Korey Shotwell of Maysville lost a 5-2 decision to Louisville Eastern senior Justin Davis in the quarterfinal round of the state wrestling tournament. Davis is ranked No. 1 and Shotwell No. 2 by KentuckyWrestling.com

Shotwell advances to quarterfinals of state wrestling tournament

Korey Shotwell of Maysville has advanced to the quarterfinals of the state wrestling tournament. Shotwell, a junior at Campbell County, won his second round match with a 14-1 major decision against Wayne County sophomore Aaron Dodd in the 140-pound weight class. Shotwell, ranked No. 2 in the state by KentuckyWrestling.com, goes up against the state's top ranked wrestler- Louisville Eastern senior Justin Davis- in the quarterfinal match today at the Frankfort Civic Center.

Shotwell wins first round match at state tournament

Campbell County junior Korey Shotwell of Maysville won his first round match in the state wrestling tournament today at the Frankfort Convention Center. Shotwell, ranked second in the state by kentuckywrestling.com, needed only 55 seconds to win his 140 pound match by fall over Christian County senior Anthony Adams.

Korey Shotwell wins Region 6 championship

Campbell County junior Korey Shotwell of Maysville won the Region 6 wrestling championship in the 140 pound class Saturday. It's Shotwell's second region title in three years. Shotwell, the state runnerup in the 140 pound class last year, is ranked second in the state by kentuckywrestling.com. He has a record of 53-3. The state wrestling championships are Feb. 19-21 at the Kentucky Convention Complex.
