Katelyn Smith is the All-Time Leading Scoring at Transy

Former Mason County Lady Royal Katelyn Smith is the all-time leading scorer at Transylvania University. 

Smith, a 5-8 senior guard, scored 23 points in a 77-67 win over Defiance Saturday afternoon and now has 1,921 career points.

Smith is averaging 18.9 points a game. She is shooting 52 percent from the field, 46.9 percent from 3-point range and 88.1 percent at the free-throw line.

On Monday, Smith was named Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week after scoring 57 points in two games. She was the HCAC Player of the Year last season.

Smith played for the Mason County Lady Royals before transferring to Perry County Central for her senior season.

Lady Royals win, Royals lose vs. Rowan County

The Mason County Lady Royals snapped a five-game losing streak with a 69-62 win over the Rowan County Lady Vikings to give Mason County a split in a boy-girl doubleheader tonight in the Pepsi/Mountain Dew Classic at The Fieldhouse. The Royals fell behind by 11, rallied to within one point late in the game, but lost to the Vikings 49-44. Bailey Menke hit five-three pointers and scored game-high 21 points for the Lady Royals. Katelyn Smith followed with 18 points. McKenzie Butler scored 13 points and Courtney Moran added 12 points. The Lady Royals play at Deming Monday night.
Treg Setty and Tyler Black both had double-doubles for the Royals. Setty had 18 points and 12 rebounds. Black scored 11 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. The Royals play at Grant County Saturday afternoon. The junior varsity game is at 1 o'clock, the varsity at 2:30.

Slow start dooms Lady Royals in 65-52 loss to NewCath

The Mason County Lady Royals fell behind 14-0 and lost the Newport Central Catholic Thoroughbreds 65-52 at the Lady Royals Gym. Mason County only had four first half field goals and trailed 37-20 at halftime. The Lady Royals cut the deficit to eight in the fourth quarter, but could get no closer. Mason County has lost five straight games and nine of its last 10. Katelyn Smith led the Lady Royals in scoring with 22 points. Bailey Menke scored 15 and Courtney Moran added 10. Mason County plays Rowan County Friday at The Fieldhouse in the Pepsi/Mountain Dew Classic which is a boy-girl doubleheader.

Lady Royals lose to Bishop Brossart 54-47

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs 54-47 tonight at home.
Brossart outscored Mason County 13-3 in the third quarter as the Lady Royals were 1-of-12 from the field. Katelyn Smith led Mason County in scoring with 20 points. Bailey Menke added 10 points. The Lady Royals host Newport Central Catholic Friday night.

Lady Royals lose to Ashland 59-51

The Mason County Lady Royals lost the Ashland Kittens 59-51 tonight in Ashland. The Lady Royals cut a seven-point deficit to two with 2:12 to play, but the Kittens scored the final six points of the game. Mason County junior Katelyn Smith scored a game-high 27 points. Alicia Moore added 10 points. The Lady Royals host the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs Friday night.

Madison Central sweeps Mason Co. in girl-boy DH

Madison Central swept a girl-boy doubleheader against Mason County in the US Bank Classic at The Fieldhouse tonight.
The Lady Indians used a 20-0 run to pull away for a 74-50 victory over the Lady Royals. Mason County led 16-12 at the end of the first quarter and was ahead 27-26 before Madison Central ended the half with nine straight points including a long three-pointer that banked in on the buzzer. The Lady Indians scored the first 11 points of the third quarter. Katelyn Smith led Mason County in scoring with 24 points. Bailey Menke added 11 points. The Lady Royals play at Ashland Monday night.
Sophomore point guard Dominique Hawkins scored a game-high 30 points to lead the Indians past the Royals 63-54. There were six ties and nine lead changes. The last tie was at 50-50. Madison Central was 13-of-15 from the field and 14-of-20 from the free throw in the second half. Jordan Gilbert made his first six three-point shots and scored a career-high 23 points for Mason County. Treg Setty tossed in 15 points. It was Madison Central's second win over Mason County this season. The loss snapped the Royals' four-game winning streak. Mason County hosts Lafayette Saturday night.

Lady Royals snap losing skid with 64-53 win over Harrison Co.

The Mason County Lady Royals snapped a four-game losing streak with a 64-53 win over the Harrison County Fillies tonight. Bailey Menke led the Lady Royals in scoring with 20 points. Katelyn Smith scored 12 points and Alicia Moore added 11. Mason County plays at Highlands Thursday night.

Mason Co. and Paul Dunbar split boy-girl DH

Mason County and Paul Dunbar split a boy-girl doubleheader Friday night at Dunbar. The Royals broke open a close game by starting the second quarter on 13-0 run and went on to beat the Bulldogs 78-65. Treg Setty scored 33 points. Tyler Black had a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jordan Gilbert added 11 points. The Royals have a season-high three-game winning streak heading into their first home game of the season Saturday night against the Deming Black Devils.
In the girls' game, Dunbar outscored Mason County 16-5 in the third quarter in a 66-47 victory.
Christin Haney hit six three-pointers and scored a game-high 32 for the Lady Bulldogs. Katelyn Smith led Mason County in scoring with 16 points. Bailey Menke had 10 rebounds. The Lady Royals play at North Laurel Saturday night.

The Clark County Lady Cardinals led by 20 points at the half and routed the Mason County Lady Royals 63-39 tonight in Winchester. The Lady Royals had 22 turnovers. Lady Royals fall to East Carter 70-56 in championship game

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the East Carter Lady Raiders 70-56 tonight in the championship game of the Queen of the Bluegrass Tournament at East Carter. Katelyn Smith led Mason County in scoring with 20 points. Bailey Menke followed with 12 points and Courtney Moran added 11 points. Smith, Menke and Alicia Moore were named to the all-tournament team,

Lady Royals beat West Carter 55-45

Katelyn Smith scored 19 points and Alicia Moore added 13 to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 55-45 win over the West Carter Lady Comets tonight in the semifinal round of the Queen of the Bluegrass Tournament at East Carter. Bailey Menke pulled down 11 rebounds. The Lady Royals will play in the championship game Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. against the East Carter Lady Raiders.

Smith scores 30 points to lead the Lady Royals to a 56-55 win over Conner

Katelyn Smith scored a career-high 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 56-55 win over the Conner Lady Cougars tonight in the first round of the Queen of the Bluegrass Tournament at East Carter. The win snapped a six-game losing streak.The Lady Royals led by five at the half, but were outscored 23-9 in the third quarter. Conner scored the first three points of the fourth quarter to lead 45-32. Smith scored 16 points in the fourth quarter including 13 straight. The Lady Royals went on a 22-6 run. Alicia Moore scored 11 points. Toria Fischer scored a game-high 33 points for Conner. The Lady Royals play the West Carter Lady Comets Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the semifinals.

Lady Royals lose to Boyd Co. 54-43

The Mason County Lady Royals are 3-3 after losing to the Boyd County Lady Lions 54-43 Tuesday night at Boyd County. The Lady Lions used a 15-0 in the first half to pull away. Mason County has lost three straight games. Katelyn Smith led the Lady Royals in scoring with 15 points. Courtney Moran added 14 points. Mason County will play in the St. Andrew's School Holiday Classic in Boca Raton, Florida. The Lady Royals' first game in the tournament is Saturday at 5:3o p.m. vs. North Broward Prep.

Lady Royals rally comes up short in a 53-49 loss to Campbell County

After trailing by 12 points in the fourth quarter, the Mason County Lady Royals put together a furious rally with a 9-0 run, but came up short in a 53-49 loss to the Campbell County Lady Camels tonight at Mason County. The Lady Royals were playing without their leading scorer, Katelyn Smith, who is sick. Courtney Moran scored a career-high 16 points. Bailey Menke tossed in 12 points and McKenzie Butler added 10 points on 10-of-10 from the free throw line. Mason County returns to action Saturday afternoon at Fleming County.

The Lady Royals improve to 3-0 with a 62-56 win over Scott

Bailey Menke had a double-double with 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 62-56 win over the Scott Lady Eagles tonight in Taylor Mill. Mason County led by 18 points at the half. Scott scored as many points in the fourth quarter (28) as they did in the first three quarters, but could get no closer than six points. Katelyn Smith scored 18 points and McKenzie Butler added 12 points. The Lady Royals host the Campbell County Lady Camels Tuesday night.

Katelyn Smith scores a career-high 25 points to lead the Lady Royals to season-opening win

Katelyn Smith scored a career-high 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 71-59 season-opening victory over the Bracken County Lady Bears tonight. Bailey Menke and Courtney Moran scored 11 points apiece. Justin Justice Morton had a career-high nine-points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Royals host Calvary Christian Thursday night.

Lady Royals top Lady Hounds 43-31 in Paris

Keller Menke had a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 43-31 road win over the Paris Lady Hounds tonight. Katelyn Smith added 10 points. The Lady Royals close out the regular season Friday night against the Montgomery County Lady Indians at The Fieldhouse.
