Ashton Adams signs with Centre College

Mason County senior Ashton Adams signed today to continue his academic and football careers at Centre College in Danville.

Adams played multiple positions for the Royals. While sharing quarterback duties his senior season, he passed for 467 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 230 yards. Adams was also the Royals' kicker and punter and played defensive back leading the team in solo tackles with 50 and was second in total tackles with 67. He had one interception. He kicked two field goals and 21 extra points.

Adams kicked the game winning field goal in the National Underclassman Combine All-American Game in December. He also played quarterback for the North team and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Mason County senior Ashton Adams kicked a 29-yard field goal in double overtime to give the North team an 11-8 victory over the South team in the National Underclassman Combine All-American Game Thursday in Savannah, Georgia. 

Adams, who also played quarterback for the North team, was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Royals fall to East Carter 38-10

The Mason County Royals’ season ended with a 38-10 loss to the East Carter Raiders in the region championship game Friday night in Grayson.

East Carter running back Charlie Terry rushed 65 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. Terry rushed for 236 yards and four touchdowns on 19 carries.

Mason County’s scores came on a four yard run by Brady Sanders and 39 yard field goal by Ashton Adams in the first quarter. 

The Royals had four red zone drives in the second half, but we’re unable to score.

Mason County ends the season with a 9-4 record under first year coach Joe Wynn.

East Carter will host Belfry in the Class AAA state semifinals.

Royals shutout Fleming County 8-0 for district championship

The Mason County Royals snapped a nine-game losing streak to the Fleming County Panthers and won their first district championship since 2013 with an 8-0 victory tonight at Panther Field in Flemingsburg.

Trey Walker ran six yards for a touchdown and Ashton Adams rushed for the two-point conversion with 6:32 to play in the first quarter.

The Royals (9-3) had chances to blow open the game but missed two field goals and lost a fumble on second and goal from the one-yard line. 

The one score was enough as Mason County recorded its third shutout of the season.

The Royals will play the East Carter Raiders in the third round of the Class AAA playoffs next week in Grayson. East Carter defeated defending state champion Ashland 26-16 tonight.

Royals open playoffs with a 45-12 win over Powell County

Ashton Adams returned the opening kickoff 62 yards for a touchdown and the Mason County Royals never looked back on their way to a 45-12 victory over the Powell County Pirates tonight in the opening round of the Class AAA football playoffs at Mason County.

Keshaun Thomas threw four touchdown passes, two each to Khristian Walton and Anthony Bozeman.

The Royals (8-3) led 38-0 at the half. The second half was played with a running clock.

Mason County moves on to the second round to play the winner of Friday night's game between the Fleming County Panthers and the Lewis County Lions.

Royals lose home opener to Montgomery County 41-14

The Mason County Royals had three red zone defensive stops including two in the first quarter, but lost to the Montgomery County Indians 41-14 tonight in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center Kickoff Classic.

Interceptions by Terrell Henry and Ashton Adams stopped Montgomery County's first two red zone drives, but the Indians later scored 22 straight points and built a 28-point lead.

Montgomery County running back Jacob Diallo rushed for three touchdowns and quarterback Alex Hatton threw two touchdown passes.

Keshaun Thomas threw a 77-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Marshall, and Brady Sanders rushed for a touchdown for Mason County.

The Royals (1-1) host the Tates Creek Commodores next week.

Mason County opens the season with a 16-7 victory over Newport

The Mason County Royals opened the 2021 football season and the Coach Joe Wynn era with a 16-7 road victory over the Newport Wildcats Friday night.

Isaac Marshall had six receptions for 154 yards and two touchdowns. 

Mason County quarterbacks Ashton Adams and Keshaun Thomas each threw a touchdown pass. Adams also kicked a 23-yard field goal and an extra point.

All of the scoring took place in the first half.

The Royals play host to the Montgomery County Indians this coming Friday night.

Royals clinch 2nd place in district with a 42-20 road win over Powell County

The Mason County Royals clinched second place in the district with a 42-20 victory over the Powell County Pirates Friday night in Stanton. 

Mason County scored on all seven of its first half possessions and led 42-6 at the half. 

The Royals' two quarterback offense was clicking. Ashton Adams threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Chad Clark- Roberts in each of the first two quarters. Adams also scored on a rushing touchdown. Terrell Henry rushed for a touchdown and threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to Isaac Marshall.

Caden Clark-Roberts had a rushing touchdown.

Mason County is 4-2 overall and 3-1 in district play. The Royals close out the regular season next week at home against Harrison County and will be at home for the first round of the playoffs on November 13.

Royals lose to Fleming County 7-6

Defense ruled the game as the Fleming County Panthers edged the Mason County Royals 7-6 in a district football game Friday night in Flemingsburg. The Panthers have won eight straight games in the series.

After a scoreless first half, Mason County lost a fumble its own 13-yard line on the opening drive of the second half. Three plays later Zeke Conn ran four yards for a touchdown for the Panthers.

Mason County answered with a 72-yard scoring drive that was capped off by an eight-yard touchdown pass from Ashton Adams to Isaac Marshall. The Royals were unable to convert the PAT.

Both defenses were strong the rest of the way. Fleming County forced a Mason County fumble on the Royals' next to last drive with 2:06 to play. The Panthers went three and out, but a 48-yard punt pinned the Royals at their own 10-yard line. With less than a minute to play and no timeouts remaining, Mason County drove to the Fleming County 42 yard line, but the Panthers came up with an interception on the final play of the game.

Mason County falls to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Royals will be at home next week against the Lewis County Lions.

Royals run past Grant County for a 34-18 season-opening victory

The Mason County Royals rushed for 422 yards in a 34-18 season-opening victory over the Grant County Braves at home Friday night.

The Royals only attempted five passes and had zero passing yards. They didn't any.

Brandon Dearing rushed for 189 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries.

Ashton Adams rushed for 106 yards and a touchdown on eight carries. Adams kicked four extra points and had an interception on defense.

Adams and Terrell Henry alternated at quarterback. Henry also had an interception on defense.

Chad Clark-Roberts rushed for 79 yards including a 24-yard touchdown run.

Grant County running back Logan Sutherland rushed for 121 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries.

Mason County is off next week. The Royals' next game is September 25 at home against the Pendleton County Wildcats.

Royals rout North Adams 53-0 in season oepner

The Mason County Royals routed a shorthanded North Adams club team 53-0 tonight in the Meadowview Regional Medical Center Kickoff Classic.

North Adams only had 12 players and the Green Devils turned the ball over on a fumble at their own eight yard line on the third play of the game

The Royals scored two plays later on a one-yard run by quarterback Carson Brammer.

On Mason County's next possession Brammer threw an 85-yard touchdown pass to Jayden Riggs.

Riggs set up the Royals' next touchdown with an interception. Two plays later Seth Chambers scored on a 22-yard run.

Chambers and Mason Baxter each had a touchdown run in the second quarter.

Riggs scored a touchdown on a 57-yard punt return late in the second quarter.

Mason County led 40-0 at the half.

Freshman quarterback Ashton Adams scored two touchdowns in the second half- the first on a one-yard quarterback sneak and the second on a 75-yard run.

Mason County had 426 yards of total offense (317 rushing and 109 passing).

Chambers rushed for 102 yards and two touchdowns on six carries.

Brammer completed 2-of-3 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. He threw one interception.

North Adams only had 82 yards of offense.

Mason County travels to Flemingsburg next week to play the Fleming County Panthers.
