Terry King is the new boys' basketball head coach at Bracken County

Former Maysville Bulldog Terry King is the new boys' basketball head coach at Bracken County.

King succeeds Adam Reed who resigned after four seasons as the Polar Bears' head coach.

King is a 1990 graduate of Maysville High School. He was a member of the 1988 10th Region championship team coached by Mike Reitz and the 1990 10th Region All "A" championship team coached by Doug Hines.

After 20 years as a game official, King coached AAU and middle school basketball and was an assistant coach on John Michael Reitz' staff at Nicholas County the past two seasons.

10th Region Coaches Association announced POY, COY and All-Region teams

The 10th Region Coaches Association has announced its Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and All-Region teams. 

For the third straight season, Justin Becker of Robertson County is the Player of the Year. 

Adam Reed of Bracken County is the Coach of the Year.

Lady Saint Allison Hughes is the KABC 10th Region Girls Player of the Year

St. Patrick senior Allison Hughes is the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches Association 10th Region Girls Player of the Year.

The award makes Hughes a finalist for Miss Basketball.

Hughes, second on the Lady Saints' all-time scoring list, is averaging 15.7 points and 4.1 rebounds a game this season.

Hughes is the first Lady Saint to win the award

Robertson County senior Justin Becker is the KABC 10th Region Boys Player of the Year and is a finalist for Mr. Basketball. Becker is the first Robertson County player to receive the award. 

Aaron Speaks of Paris is the KABC 10th Region Girls Coach of the Year and Adam Reed of Bracken County is the KABC 10th Region Boys Coach of the Year.

The KABC award winners from each region will be recognized at the state basketball tournaments.

10th Region media votes Justin Becker Player of the Year and Adam Reed Coach of the Year

Robertson County senior Justin Becker has won the 10th Region Player of the Year award for the second straight year and Bracken County's Adam Reed is the 10th Region Coach of the Year in voting by media members in the region.

Becker is averaging 33.8 points and 12.3 rebounds a game. He has scored more than 3,000 points and grabbed more than 1,000 rebounds in his career. Becker has verbally committed to Thomas More University.

After an eight-win season last year, Reed has guided the Polar Bears to a 21-7 record so far this season. Bracken County won the 10th Region All "A" Classic and advanced to the quarterfinals of the state All "A" Classic. 

The votes for Player of the Year and Coach of the Year were compiled by WFTM Sports Director Travis Scaggs.

AJ Reed signs with UPike

Mason County senior AJ Reed signed today to play basketball at the University of Pikeville. 

Reed led the Lady Royals in scoring, steals, assists and three-pointers last season while playing point guard. She was named Second Team All-10th Region.

"Considering the talent in our region, with many talented players, that's quite an accomplishment," Mason County coach Brad Cox said.

Reed's dad, Adam Reed, played basketball at Pikeville.

"It's unique opportunity that we have to bring a student-athlete in who's a legacy at the University of Pikeville," UPike coach Clifton Williams said.

Williams said it was special for UPike and special for the Reed family.

"We are going to push AJ to be the best she can be on and off the court, and that's what its all about, and she's going to walk away with a degree," Williams said.
