St. Patrick and Mason County volleyball teams win on Tuesday night

The St. Patrick and Mason County volleyball teams both posted wins on Tuesday night.

St. Patrick defeated Community Christian Academy 2-1. The Lady Saints (9-15) will host Newport on Wednesday night.

The Lady Royals ran their record to 21-11 and closed out the regular season with a 3-0 road win over the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats.

The set scores were 25-17, 25-15 and 25-20. 

Halle Pfeffer had 24 digs. Kyleigh Kirk tallied 22 assists and 11 digs. Raylee Dotson had 11 digs and Hayley Allison had 10 digs.

Mason County will play the Augusta Lady Panthers in the semifinals of the 39th District Tournament on Tuesday night at Bracken County.

Lady Royals defeat Robertson County two sets to one in Mt. Olivet

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the Robertson County Lady Devils two sets to one on Thursday night in Mt. Olivet. 

Robertson County won the first set 26-24, but Mason County rebounded to win the second and third sets by identical scores of 25-18.

Kyleigh Kirk tallied 21 assists and 10 digs. Five other Lady Royals also had double-digit digs: Halle Pfeffer (22), Hayley Allison (14), Reagan Workman (12), Kennedy Bevins (10) and Mylie Padgett (10). 

Workman and Padgett each had seven kills.

The Lady Royals (19-11) will travel to Grayson on Monday night to play the East Carter Lady Raiders.

Lady Royals and Lady Saints volleyball teams suffered road losses

The Mason County Lady Royals and the St. Patrick Lady Saints volleyball teams both suffered 3-0 road losses on Tuesday night.

The Lady Royals lost to the Augusta Lady Panthers in Augusta. The set scores were 25-16, 26-24 and 25-22.

Four Lady Royals had double digit digs: Reagan Workman with 24, Halle Pfeffer with 20, and Kennedy Bevins and Aaliyah Burns with 10 apiece. Kyleigh Kirk had 17 assists.

Mason County (18-11) will play at Robertson County on Thursday night.

St. Patrick lost to the Harrison County Fillies in Cynthiana. The set scores were 25-13, 25-4 and 25-16.

The Lady Saints (7-15) will host the Bath County Lady Wildcats on Thursday night.

Lady Royals get a road win over West Carter in five sets.

Kyleigh Kirk dished out 28 assists, Hayley Allison had 27 digs and Halle Pfeffer finished with 20 digs as the Mason County Lady Royals, playing in their second straight five-set match, defeated the West Carter Lady Comets 3-2 on Monday night in Olive Hill.

Mason County won the first set 25-23. West Carter won the second set 25-16 and the third set 25-22. The Lady Royals bounced back to take the fourth set 25-22 and closed out the match by winning the fifth set 17-15.

Makaylynn Crabtree had 11 kills and Kennedy Bevins had 10 digs and six service aces.

Mason County (18-10) will play the Augusta Lady Panthers in Augusta on Tuesday night.

Lady Royals lose to Nicholas County in five sets

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Nicholas County Lady Jackets in five sets on Thursday night at The Fieldhouse.

Nicholas County won the first set 27-25. Mason County took the second set 25-21. The Lady Jackets won the third set 25-22. The Lady Royals won the fourth set 27-25 before Nicholas County closed out the match by winning the fifth set 15-11.

Halle Pfeffer had 24 digs, Kyleigh Kirk recorded 23 saves, Hayley Allison had 17 digs, Reagan Workman finished with 14 digs and 13 kills and Makaylynn Crabtree served 10 aces.

Mason County (17-10) will play their final five matches on the road beginning on Monday night at West Carter.

Tuesday night volleyball: Lady Royals beat Ripley, Lady Saints fall to Bracken County

Kyleigh Kirk had 34 assists, Halle Pfeffer had 19 digs, Makaylynn Crabtree had 17 kills and Haley Allison had 12 digs as the Mason County Lady Royals beat the Ripley Lady Jays in four sets on Tuesday night in Ripley.

Mason County won the first set 25-6, Ripley bounced back to take the second set 25-22, but the Lady Royals won the third set 25-23 and the fourth set 25-19 for their seventh win in the last eight matches.

Mason County (17-9) will be back on The Fieldhouse court on Thursday night vs. the Nicholas County Lady Jackets.

The St. Patrick Lady Saints lost to the Bracken County Lady Bears 3-0 in Brooksville.

The set scores were 25-17, 25-7 and 25-11.

St. Patrick (7-13) will host the Robertson County Lady Devils on Thursday night.

Lady Royals beat Augusta 3 sets to none

Kyleigh Kirk had 24 assists, Hayley Allison had 12 digs and Halle Pfeffer had 11 digs to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 3-0 victory over the Augusta Lady Panthers on Monday night at The Fieldhouse.

The set scores were 25-21, 25-12 and 25-14.

Mason County (16-9) will play the Ripley Lady Jays on Tuesday night in Ripley.

Lady Royals win fifth straight match

Kyleigh Kirk dished out 25 assists, Halle Pfeffer finished with 17 digs and seven aces, Hayley Allison had 12 digs and Makaylynn Crabtree had 14 kills as the Mason County Lady Royals ran their winning streak to five matches with a 3-0 victory over the Lewis County Lady Lions on Tuesday night at The Fieldhouse.

The set scores were 25-21, 25-16 and 25-19.

The Lady Royals (15-8) had 10 aces, 28 assists, 33 kills and 62 digs in winning for the 10th time in their last 11 matches.

Mason County will travel to Brooksville on Thursday night to play the Bracken County Lady Bears.

Lady Royals volleyball team beats Fleming County 2-0

Kyleigh Kirk had 17 assists and Hayley Allison had 16 digs to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 2-0 homecourt win over the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Monday night.

The set scores were 25-18 and 25-21.

The Lady Royals (14-8) have won four straight matches and nine of their last 10. They will host the Lewis County Lady Lions tonight.

News and notes

 Here are a few news and notes to start off the week:

  • Two Mason County volleyball players recently reached milestones: Kyleigh Kirk with career 500 assists and Hayley Allison with 500 career digs.

  • Augusta, Bracken County, Mason County and St. Patrick were among the 74 schools with no disqualifications during the 2024-25 school year.

  • Kentucky High School Athletic Association member schools voted last week to allow athletes who have participated in less than 20% of their team's games to transfer to another school without having to sit out for a year.

  • Trinity quarterback Zane Johnson completed 12 of 16 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns as the Shamrocks routed the Bulldogs 46-0 on Friday. Johnson is the son of former Mason County Royal Jordan Johnson.

Lady Royals volleyball team wins two matches on Ashland

The Mason County Lady Royals volleyball team defeated Fairview and Rose Hill Christian on Saturday at Rose Hill Christian in Ashland.

Halle Pfeffer had 11 digs in the 25-15 and 25-22 win over Fairview.

Kyleigh Kirk had nine assists and four aces in the 25-10 and 25-10 victory over Rose Hill Christian.

Mason County (13-8) will host the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Monday night.

Lady Royals defeat St. Patrick 3-0 in volleyball

Kyleigh Kirk dished out 15 assists and Hayley Allison and Halle Pfeffer each had 11 digs to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 3-0 win over the St. Patrick Lady Saints on Thursday night at The Fieldhouse.

The set scores were 25-19, 25-19 and 25-10.

Mason County (11-8) will travel to Rose Hill Christian in Ashland on Saturday to play Fairview at 1 p.m. and Rose Hill Christian at 2 p.m.

St. Patrick (6-11) will host Nicholas County on Tuesday night.

Lady Royals volleyball team extends winning streak to five matches with a 3-1 win over West Carter

The Mason County Lady Royals volleyball team defeated the West Carter Lady Raiders 3-1 on Wednesday night at The Fieldhouse to extend their winning streak to five matches.

Mason County (10-17)  won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-14, West Carter took the third set 25-13 before the Lady Royals closed out the match by winning the fourth set 25-20.

Kyleigh Kirk dished out  20 assists and Emma Henderson had 10 kills.

On the defensive end, Hayley Allison posted 20 digs and Halle Pfeffer added 18 digs.

The Lady Royals will be back on the court on Tuesday night vs. the Nicholas County Lady Jackets in Carlisle.

Lady Royals defeated Robertson County for fourth straight victory

The Mason County Lady Royals ran their winning streak to a season-high four matches with a 3-0 victory over the Robertson County Lady Devils on Tuesday night at The Fieldhouse.

The scores were 25-13, 25-8 and 25-18.

Kyleigh Kirk had 18 assists. Halle Pfeffer had 14 digs and Hayley Allison had 12 digs.

The Lady Royals (9-7) will host the West Carter Lady Raiders on Wednesday night.

Volleyball and soccer recaps

The Mason County Lady Royals volleyball team rallied to beat the Fleming County Lady Panthers 2-1 on Monday night in Flemingsburg.

Fleming County took the first set 25-16, but the Lady Royals won the next two 25-20 and 25-22.

Mason County (8-7) will host Robertson County on Tuesday night.

Halle Pfeffer had 24 digs, Hayley Allison and Kennedy Bevins each had 14 digs and Kyleigh Kirk had 19 assists.

The Mason County Lady Royals soccer team lost to the East Carter Lady Raiders 5-3 on Monday at Grayson.

Eden Abshire scored two goals, Aubrey Gross added a goal and Harley Durham-Campbell assisted on all three goals.

The Lady Royals (4-4) will host the Bourbon County Lady Colonels on Wednesday night.

The Mason County Royals soccer team fell to the Montgomery County Indians 6-2 on Monday night at home.

Noah Gardner scored a goal and had an assist on a goal by Mason Tackett.

The Royals (4-5) will travel to Cynthiana on Tuesday to play the Harrison County Thorobreds.

The St. Patrick Saints soccer team lost to the Bishop Brossart Mustangs 12-0 on Monday night in Alexandria.

The Saints picked up their first win on Saturday by shutting out the Paris Greyhounds 5-0.

The Saints (1-5) will play at Ripley this Saturday.

Reed scores 26 points, Lady Royals hit 15 3s in a win over Augusta

Amirah Reed made 5 3-pointers and scored 26 points and the Mason County Lady Royals hit a total of 15 3s in a win over the Augusta Lady Panthers on Wednesday night at The Fieldhouse.

Kyleigh Kirk made four 3-pointers and scored 13 points, Olivia Hughes followed with 12 points on four treys and Carlee Buttery hit two 3-pointers and finished with 11 points.

Laci Tackett led Augusta in scoring with 18 points.

Mason County (15-6) will host Montgomery County at The Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon. 

Augusta (8-12) will be at home vs. St. Patrick on Friday night.

Lady Royals rout Lady Panthers 62-15

The Mason County Lady Royals jumped out to a 15-0 lead on their way to a 62-15 road victory over the Augusta Lady Panthers on Saturday night.

Mason County (3-0) led 38-5 at halftime and 56-12 at the end of the third quarter.

Amirah Reed made four 3-pointers and scored 17 points, all in the first half, to lead the Lady Royals scoring. Kyleigh Kirk scored 14 straight points in the third quarter. Adrienne Downs-Perry added 11 points.

Augusta (2-2) was led in scoring by Kenzington Hinson and Samantha Young with six points apiece.

The Lady Royals will travel to Falmouth on Monday night to play the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats.

The Lady Panthers will play at Robertson County on Monday night.

Lady Royals split squads both win matches

The Mason County girls' golf team used split squads to win two matches on Wednesday.

The Lady Royals won a tri-match at Laurel Oaks Golf Course with a team score of 146. Pendleton County finished second at 152 and Lewis County took third place at 159.

Morgan Parker led the Lady Royals with a 46. She was followed by Kyleigh Kirk with a 48 and Maura Hartman and Sydney Ullery each with a 52.

Macey Littleton shot a 44 to lead Mason County to a win in a tri-match at Carnico Golf Club. The Lady Royals had a team score of 206. Fleming County and Nicholas County tied for second, six shots back.

Laci Burns shot a 50, Bentley Shepherd a 52 and Presley Flora a 60 to round out the Lady Royals' scoring.

"Great job by all players tonight at both courses," Mason County coach Jason Butler wrote in a text message. "I am very glad to get all kids playing and the experience."
