Mason County wrestlers fifth at Warhawk Duals

With a 3-2 record the Mason County wrestling team finished in fifth place at the Warhawk Duals in Georgetown on Saturday.

The Royals defeated Scott County 42-40, Western Hills 42-40 and Henry Clay 48-30 and lost to Great Crossing 72-6 and Bullitt Central 48-33.

Barry Gifford (175) went 5-0 with five pins.

Colton Kinney (215/285) had two wins while wrestling up a weight class most of the day.

Izley Morales (190/215) and Taten Carrington (190/215) each had a pin while competing up a weight class.

Carson Ginn (157), Hunter Truesdell (150) and Bryson Carrington (120) had two wins apiece. 

The boys will be back in action Friday night at West Carter. The girls travel to Taylor County on Saturday.

Carrington and Kinney lose opening round matches in KHSAA First Round State Tournament

Mason County wrestlers Bryson Carrington and Colton Kinney both lost their opening round matches in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association First Round State Tournament at Ryle High School on Saturday.

Carrington, a seventh grader, lost by fall in the 120-pound weight class and Kinney, a sophomore, lost by technical fall in the 190-pound weight class. Carrington and Kinney are the first Mason County wrestlers to qualifiy for the state tournament.

In a Facebook post Mason County coach Corey Arthur wrote that the Royals will return 13 of their 14 weight classes next season. He also wrote, "Proud of this entire Group they left it all on the Mat."

Mason County fifth at Region 8 wrestling tournament, Kinney and Carrington qualify for state First Round

The Mason County wrestling team, in only its second season of existence, finished fifth in the Region 8 tournament at Martin County on Saturday.

Sophomore Colton Kinney and seventh grader Bryson Carrington qualified for the First Round of the state tournament which will take place this Saturday at Ryle High School in Union.

Kinney finished third in the 190 pound weight class and Carrington was fourth in the 120 pound weight class. The top four in each weight class advanced to the First Round of the state tournament.

The First Round brackets, determined by a random draw table, were released by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association on Sunday. Carrington drew Boyle County freshman Ethan Masters and Kinney drew George Rogers Clark junior Jesse Shaddix.

Wrestlers from Regions 5-8 will compete at Ryle on Saturday.

The gates open for spectators at 8 a.m. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.

Tickets are available online-only at khsaatickets.org. Tickets purchased in advance are $11 each. Tickets purchased on Saturday will cost $13 each.

Mason County archers were runners-up in Mason County Fall Shoot

The Mason County archery team took second place in the Mason County Fall Shoot at The Fieldhouse on Saturday.

The Royals had a team score of 3214. Harrison County won the tournament with a team score of 3298.

Mason County sophomore Bryce Pollitt took first place with a score of 292. He had 22 Tens. Mason County sophomore Colton Kinnney finished third with a score of 288. He had 18 Tens. 

The Royals will be back in action on December 3 at Pendleton County.

Royals take 15th place in KHSAA State Archery Championships

The Mason County Royals finished in 15th place in the KHSAA State Archery Championships today in Bowling Green. It's the best finish in the history of the Mason County archery program.

The Royals, champions of Region 7, had a team score of 1,939, just seven points behind 14th place finisher Thomas Nelson.

Anderson County won the state championship with a team score of 1,989.

Mason County was led by sophomore Colton Kinney with a score of 284. He had 18 Tens. 

Mason County boys' archery team headed to state after winning region championship

The Mason County boys' archery team won the Region 7 tournament today at the Montgomery County Arena and earned a berth in next month's KHSAA state tournament.

The Royals had a team score of 1,948. Harrison County was the runner-up with a total of 1,942.

Mason County was led by freshman Colton Kinney and senior Jacob Brown with 287s. Kinney had 20 Tens and Brown finished with 17 Tens.

Harrison County won the girls' tournament. Mason County finished in fifth place. 

The Lady Royals were led by sophomore Addison Grosser and eighth grader Eden Abshire with 262s. Grosser had 11 Tens and Abshire had eight Tens.

Mason County archers second at Robertson County Mid Winter Shoot

The Mason County archery team finished second in the Robertson County Mid Winter Shoot over the weekend.

Bryce Pollitt led the Royals with a score of 283. He had 17 Tens. Eli Roesler followed with a 276 and Colton Kinney with a 275. Roesler had 11 Tens and Colton Kinney had 13 Tens.

Mason County hosts and wins 3D Challenge

The Mason County High School archery team won the Mason County NASP/IBO 3D Challenge on Saturday.

The Royals had a team score of 1,622 and had 65 Tens. Mason County was led by freshman Colton Kinney and senior Jacob Brown with 279s. Kinney had 16 Tens and Brown had 15 Tens. 

The Royals will compete in the Bourbon County Classic this Saturday.

The Mason County boys' archery team qualified for the KHSAA state tournament with a runner-up finish in the Region 7 Tournament today at Robertson County.

Two Mason County girls -- Laney Gifford and DeAnna Roberts -- qualified for the state tournament as individuals.

The Royals had a team score of 1930. Harrison County won the region championship with a team score of 1968.

Mason County was led by 8th grader Colton Kinney. He had a score of 279 with 11 Tens. Dalton Hargett and Jacob Brown followed with 277s. Hargett had 13 Tens and Brown had 12 Tens. 

Brown and Brad Kegley were named Academic Archers.

The Lady Royals finished third with a team score of 1873. Gifford led the way with a score of 280. She had 17 Tens. Roberts followed with a score of 277. She had 12 Tens.

Lindsey Saunders and Breanna Mellenkamp were named Academic Archers.
