Mason County fifth at Region 8 wrestling tournament, Kinney and Carrington qualify for state First Round

The Mason County wrestling team, in only its second season of existence, finished fifth in the Region 8 tournament at Martin County on Saturday.

Sophomore Colton Kinney and seventh grader Bryson Carrington qualified for the First Round of the state tournament which will take place this Saturday at Ryle High School in Union.

Kinney finished third in the 190 pound weight class and Carrington was fourth in the 120 pound weight class. The top four in each weight class advanced to the First Round of the state tournament.

The First Round brackets, determined by a random draw table, were released by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association on Sunday. Carrington drew Boyle County freshman Ethan Masters and Kinney drew George Rogers Clark junior Jesse Shaddix.

Wrestlers from Regions 5-8 will compete at Ryle on Saturday.

The gates open for spectators at 8 a.m. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m.

Tickets are available online-only at khsaatickets.org. Tickets purchased in advance are $11 each. Tickets purchased on Saturday will cost $13 each.
