Logan Liles wins 33rd Laurel Oaks Classic

Logan Liles won the 33rd Laurel Oaks Classic on Sunday with a 36-hole total of 12-under 132.

Defending champion Corey Richmond finished second at 10 under.

Liles shot a 66 in each round. Richmond matched Liles' 66 in the first round and shot a 68 on Sunday.

Marcus Maloan finished third at 9 under. Dusty Kilgore and Logan Shepherd tied for fourth place at 6 under.

Logan Liles wins Gorman Tournament

Logan Liles won the Gorman Tournament at Fleming County Golf Association with a 36-hole total of 14-under par 130.

Liles shot a 62 on Saturday and a 68 on Sunday.

Logan McIntosh finished second at 13 under and defending champion Jake O'Mara finished in third place at 9 under.

Liles began the final round with a one-shot lead over McIntosh and extended the margin to four strokes with a 33 on the front nine. 

McIntosh rallied to tie Liles for the lead with two holes to play.  

Liles regained the lead with a birdie on No. 17, and he and McIntosh both parred No. 18.

Jake O'Mara and Eric Schumacher win Maysville Country Club 2-Man Tournament

Jake O'Mara and Eric Schumacher won the Maysville Country Club 2-Man Tournament Sunday with a 36-hole scored of 27-under 117.

O'Mara and Schumacher shot a 58 Saturday and a 59 Sunday.

Logan Hughes and Jordan Hughes were second at 25 under, and Mark Moore and Logan Liles finished third at 22 under.

Jake O'Mara wins 31st Laurel Oaks Classic

Jake O'Mara won the 31st Laurel Oaks Classic by five shots Sunday. 

O'Mara followed up his first round 66 with a 67 in the final round to finish at 11 under. 

Grant Owens finished second at 6 under and Logan Liles was third at 5 under.

O'Mara, who began the final round tied for the lead with John Kennedy, fired a 32 on the front nine and had a five-shot lead heading to the back nine. It's the first time O'Mara has won the Laurel Oaks Classic.

Corey Richmond wins Chippeways

Corey Richmond won the Chippeways golf tournament for the second time in three years.

Richmond defeated six-time champion Eric Schumacher 4 and 3 in the championship match of the 88th edition of the tournament Sunday afternoon at Maysville Country Club.

Earlier in the day in the semifinals, Richmond beat defending champion Logan Liles, and Schumacher defeated his son, Evan Schumacher.

Jackson Frame and BJ Knox win Two-Man Scramble at KSGC

Jackson Frame and BJ Knox won the Two-Man Scramble at Kenton Station Golf Course Sunday with a 36-hole total of 28-under par 112.

Frame and Knox had rounds of 53 and 59.

The teams of Mark Moore and Logan Liles, and Troy Grooms and Deron Feldhaus tied for second place at 25-under 115.

Corey Richmond wins the Laurel Oaks Classic for the third time

Corey Richmond won the Laurel Oaks Classic for the second straight year and the third time in four years.

Richmond shot a 9-under 63 in the final round today for a 36-hole total of 14-under 130.

Logan Liles finished second at 13-under after shooting a 65 today.

Richmond and Liles were tied through 15 holes today. Richmond took the lead for good with a birdie on the par-3 16th. He birdied the last four holes.

Tyler Lippert finished third at 8-under.

Logan Liles wins 87th Chippeways

2022 Lewis County High School graduate Logan Liles is the champion of the 87th Chippeways match play golf tournament.

Liles, who will play college golf at Morehead State University, defeated Kentucky Wesleyan golfer Tyler Nikol of Avon, Indiana in the championship match this afternoon at Maysville Country Club.

Earlier today in the semifinals, Liles was a winner over Jake O'Mara and Nikol defeated Kevin Lawson.

Eight area golfers earn All-Region recognition

Eight area golfers earned All-Region recognition from the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Lewis County senior Logan Liles was named Region 12 Golfer of the Year. He is joined on the All-Region Team by the five members of the Mason County Royals region championship team. They are Logan Shepherd, Mason Butler, Grant Owens, Jake Feldhaus and Kaden Grooms.

Macey Littleton of Mason County and Sadie Price of Fleming County were named to the girls' All-Region Team.

All-State points were used to select the All-Region teams.

Tee times set for the first round of the state golf tournaments

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association today released the first round tee times for the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Golf State Championships next week at Bowling Green Country Club. The first round of the girls' tournament is on October 5. The boys' tournament begins on October 8.

Royals back-to-back region champions

The Mason County Royals won the Region 12 Golf Tournament for the second straight year today.

The Royals fired a 287 at Laurel Oaks Golf Course. Montgomery County was the runner-up at 307. Fleming County took third place at 311. The region champion is the only team to advance to the state tournament.

Mason County was led by Mason Butler, Logan Shepherd and Grant Owens who each shot a 1-under 71. Jake Feldhaus followed with a 74 to round out the team score. Kaden Grooms shot a 77. The top four scores are used for the team total.

A scorecard playoff broke ties in the individual standings. Butler took third place, Shepherd fourth and Owens fifth. Feldhaus finished in seventh place.

Montgomery County senior Logan McCormick was the individual champion with a 3-under 69. Lewis County senior Logan Liles was the runner-up at 2-under 70.

Fleming County freshman Seth Hickerson shot a 75 and qualified for the state tournament by earning one of the spots in a 3-for-2 playoff.

The Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship will be played October 8-9 at Bowling Green Country Club.

Royals second in all-state points

The Mason County Royals are second in the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association Boys Team All-State Points Rankings.

The Royals, winners of six tournaments, have compiled 680 points in 10 events. Christian Academy of Louisville is No. 1 with 690 points after eight events.

Lewis County senior Logan Liles in second in the indvidual points (615). Mason County senior Logan Shepherd is tied for 10th place with 460 points.

Liles, Shepherd, Butler and Littleton named to All-Region golf teams

Several area golfers have been named to the All-Region 12 teams by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Lewis County junior Logan Liles is the Region 12 Player of the Year. Other area golfers on the All-Region Team include: Mason County juniors Logan Shepherd and Mason Butler and Fleming County junior Logan Hughes.

Mason County sophomore Macey Littleton was named to the girls' All-Region Team.

Royals finished 7th in Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship

 The Mason County Royals finished in seventh place in the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship with a 36-hole total of 91-over 667. Trinity won the tournament at 38-over.

Mason County had a team score of 331 in the second round today at Bowling Green Country Club.

Evan Schumacher, the only senior on the team, led the Royals today with a 5-over 77. The other golfers who contributed to the team score were Zack Ring (80), Logan Shepherd (85) and Mason Butler (89). Kaden Grooms shot a 95, but his score did not count toward the team score. 

Lewis County junior Logan Liles, an individual qualifier, tied for 40th place at 15-over.

Mason County boys golf team wins region

The Mason County boys' golf team won the Region 12 tournament today to qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 2015.

The Royals had a team score of 315 at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead. Montgomery County was the runner-up at 322. Only the region team champion and the top seven individuals not on the winning team advance to the state tournament.

Logan Shepherd led Mason County with a 4-over 76 and finished fifth in the individual standings. Mason Butler and Kaden Grooms both shot 77s. Zack Ring followed with an 85 and Evan Schumacher carded a 91. The top four scores are used in the team total. 

Lewis County junior Logan Liles and Fleming County junior Logan Hughes both are individual qualifiers for the state tournament. 

The Leachman GMC-Buick-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship is scheduled October 6 and 7 at Bowling Green Country Club.

  • Mason County sophomore Layla Henderson won the Mason County Cross Country Invitational and led the Lady Royals to a victory in the team race on Saturday.

  • The St. Patrick Lady Saints defeated the Robertson County Lady Devils 2-0 (25-14, 25-9) in the semifinals of the 10th Region All "A" volleyball tournament on Saturday. St. Patrick advances to the championship game against Bishop Brossart.

  • The Mason County Royals are No. 2 in this week's Boys Golf Team All-State Rankings. Highlands, with 525 points, replaced Mason County in the No. 1 spot. The Royals have 495 points.

  • Lewis County junior Logan Liles is No.2 (495 points) and Mason County junior Mason Butler is No. 15 (350 points) in the Boys Golf Individual All-State Rankings.

Mason County boys golf team No. 1 in All-State Standings

The Mason County boys golf team is No.1 in the All-State Standings complied by Kentucky Junior Golf.

The Royals have racked up a team score of 495 points. St. Henry is second with 480 points.

Lewis County junior Logan Liles is tied with Cooper's Ryan Wotherspoon for first place in the individual standings with 475 points. Mason County junior Mason Butler is tied with Gehrig Sexton of Wayne County for seventh place with 345 points. Mason County junior Logan Shepherd is tied with Dylan Stultz of Greenup County and Kannon Tucker of Somerset with 235 points.

Logan Liles finishes T5 in Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur

Lewis County's Logan Liles fired a 7-under 65 today in the final round of the Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur at Boone's Trace National Golf Club in Richmond and finished T5.

Liles had a 36-hole total of -4 140. He had eight birdies today including five on the front nine. 

It's Liles' second top five finish on the PGA Kentucky Junior Tour in as many weeks. He finished T4 in the Kentucky Boys PGA Championship last week.

Mason County's Mason Butler finished T62 in the Kentucky Boys Junior Amateur.

Liles finishes T4, Butler T37 in Kentucky Boys Junior PGA Championship

Logan Liles, a rising junior at Lewis County High School, finished T4 in the Kentucky Boys PGA Championship at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond. 

Mason Butler, a rising junior at Mason County High School, finished T37.

Liles shot a 1-over 73 for the second straight day Tuesday and finished nine shots behind the champion, Warren Thomis of Richmond, who had a 36-hole total of 7-under 137.

Butler shot a 6-over 78 in the second round and was 10-over for the tournament. 

Seventy-nine golfers completed the tournament.

Liles T5, Butler T24 after the first round of the Kentucky Boys Junior PGA Championship

Lewis County's Logan Liles is T5 and Mason County's Mason Butler is T24 after the first round of the Kentucky Boys Junior PGA Championship at Gibson Bay Golf Course in Richmond.

Liles shot a 1-over 73 and Butler shot at 4-over 76 on Monday.

The leader, Warren Thomis of Richmond, fired a 3-under 69.

The final round is today. Butler tees off at 10:50. Liles has a noone tee time.
