Evan Schumacher helps KWC to sixth place finish in Tennessee tournament

Former Mason County Royal Evan Schumacher had rounds of  79, 69 and 76 to help the Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers finish sixth out of 17 teams at the Music City Invitational at Hermitage Golf Club in Old Hickory, Tennessee.

Kentucky Wesleyan finished at 15 over. Union (Tennessee) won the tournament at 10 under.

The Panthers will play in the Ken Partridge Invitational in Noblesville, Indiana April 6-8.

Evan Schumacher finishes T14 in KWC Invitational

Kentucky Wesleyan College junior Evan Schumacher of Maysville had a 36-hole total of 3-over 147 and tied for 14th place in the Kentucky Wesleyan College Invitational over the weekend.

Schumacher had rounds of 74 and 73 as the Panthers finished seventh in their final tournament of the fall semester.

KWC's next tournament will be the Saint Leo Invitational at Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Saint Leo, Florida on February 20 and 21.

Evan Schumacher shoots a career-low 71 and ties for 15th in college tourney

Kentucky Wesleyan College junior Evan Schumacher shot a career-low 71 in the third round of the McKendree Bearcat Dual Gender on Tuesday to help the Panthers finish in a tie for second place.

The former Mason County Royal shot a 73 in the first round and an 81 in the second round. He tied for 15th place at 9-under.

The Kentucky Wesleyan Invitational Saturday and Sunday is the final event on the Panthers' fall schedule.

Corey Richmond wins Chippeways

Corey Richmond won the Chippeways golf tournament for the second time in three years.

Richmond defeated six-time champion Eric Schumacher 4 and 3 in the championship match of the 88th edition of the tournament Sunday afternoon at Maysville Country Club.

Earlier in the day in the semifinals, Richmond beat defending champion Logan Liles, and Schumacher defeated his son, Evan Schumacher.

Hughes and McCarty back-to-back winners of KS/FGA Two-Man Scramble

Jordan Hughes and Elijah McCarty won the Kenton Station/Fleming County Golf Association Two-Man Scramble for the second straight year.

Hughes and McCarty, former teammates at Shawnee State University, shot a 15-under 55 on Saturday at Kenton Station Golf Course and a 12-under 60 on Sunday at Fleming County Golf Association for a two-day day total of 27-under 115. They shot a 29 on the front nine on Sunday.

The teams of Jake O'Mara/Evan Schumacher and Chris Smoot/Josh Goddard tied for second at 25-under. O'Mara and Schumacher shot a 29 on the back nine on Sunday.

Evan Schumacher signs with Kentucky Wesleyan College

Mason County senior Evan Schumacher signed today to continue his academic and golf careers at Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro.

Schumacher was the only senior on the Royals' region championship golf team this past season after recovering from multiple injuries suffered in a fall at a rock formation in Morehead last May. He was the individual region runner-up in 2019 and was named to the All Region Team in 2019.

Schumacher was also a member of the Mason County basketball team.

Kentucky Wesleyan is a member of NCAA Division II and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.

Royals rally for a 95-89 win over Augusta

Mason County got outplayed for the first 29 minutes of their 39th District Tournament semifinal game vs. Augusta tonight, but the Royals' full court pressure, led by Julius Booker, allowed them to hold off the upset minded Panthers.

Mason County outscored Augusta 30-18 in the fourth quarter for a 95-89 victory at The Fieldhouse.

Augusta shot 76 percent from the field in the first half, made 10-of-15 3-point shots in the game, hit 19-of-20 free throws and led by as many as 13 points.

The Royals ran their winning streak to 12 games. They move on to the district championship game Thursday night before playing in the 10th Region Tournament next week.

Mason County guard Nate Mitchell scored a game-high 31 points and dished out 10 assists. Terrell Henry scored 23 points, AP Perry tossed in 16 points and Evan Schumacher came in off the bench and scored 11 points.

Augusta was led in scoring by Kason Hinson with 25 points. Riley Mastin scored 21 points, Conner Snapp followed with 17 points and Chase Archibald added 15 points.

Evan Schumacher commits to Kentucky Wesleyan College

Mason County senior Evan Schumacher has verbally committed to Kentucky Wesleyan College to continue his academic and golf career. 

Schumacher was a member of Mason County's region championship golf team this past season. He was the individual region runner-up his junior season.

Schumacher is also a member of the Mason County Royals basketball team.

Royals finished 7th in Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship

 The Mason County Royals finished in seventh place in the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship with a 36-hole total of 91-over 667. Trinity won the tournament at 38-over.

Mason County had a team score of 331 in the second round today at Bowling Green Country Club.

Evan Schumacher, the only senior on the team, led the Royals today with a 5-over 77. The other golfers who contributed to the team score were Zack Ring (80), Logan Shepherd (85) and Mason Butler (89). Kaden Grooms shot a 95, but his score did not count toward the team score. 

Lewis County junior Logan Liles, an individual qualifier, tied for 40th place at 15-over.

Royals are in 8th place after the opening round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship

The Mason County Royals had a team score of 48-over 336 in the first round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship today at Bowling Green Country Club and are in eighth place. Trinity is in first place at 12-over.

Mason County was led by Mason Butler with a 7-over 79. Kaden Grooms shot an 83 followed by Zack Ring with an 86, Evan Schumacher with an 88 and Logan Shepherd with a 90. Only the best four scores are used for the team score.

The final round will be played on Wednesday.

Mason County boys golf team wins region

The Mason County boys' golf team won the Region 12 tournament today to qualify for the state tournament for the first time since 2015.

The Royals had a team score of 315 at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead. Montgomery County was the runner-up at 322. Only the region team champion and the top seven individuals not on the winning team advance to the state tournament.

Logan Shepherd led Mason County with a 4-over 76 and finished fifth in the individual standings. Mason Butler and Kaden Grooms both shot 77s. Zack Ring followed with an 85 and Evan Schumacher carded a 91. The top four scores are used in the team total. 

Lewis County junior Logan Liles and Fleming County junior Logan Hughes both are individual qualifiers for the state tournament. 

The Leachman GMC-Buick-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys' State Golf Championship is scheduled October 6 and 7 at Bowling Green Country Club.

Royals finish 11th in Boys All-State Championship

The Mason County Royals golf team finished in 11th place in the Boys All-State Championship today at University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.

The Royals had a team score of 327 in the second round and a 36-hole total of 73-over par 645.

Madison Central won the tournament at 17-over. Trinity finished second, one shot back.

Logan Shepherd led Mason County for the second straight day. He shot a 6-over 78. Kaden Grooms and Mason Butler both shot 82s. Zach Ring was the final Royal to count in today's team score. He posted an 85. Evan Schumacher shot 86.

The tournament is sponsored by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association. Only the top 15 teams in the All-State Standings were eligible to participate.

Royals 12th after first round of Boys All-State Championship

The Mason County Royals golf team is in 12th place after the first round of the Boys All-State Championship.

The Royals had a team score of 30-over par 318 today at University Club of Kentucky in Lexington.

St. Xavier tops the leaderboard at 2-over. 

Logan Shepherd carded Mason County's best score: a 3-over 75. He is in 35th place in the individual competition.

Kaden Grooms shot 78, Mason Butler 81, Evan Schumacher 84 and Zach Ring 84. 

The top four scores are used for the team score.

The final round will be played Sunday.

Mason County Royals golf team will play in the KGCA All-State Championship this weekend

 The Mason County Royals, tied for No. 2 in the All-State Standings, will play in the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association All-State Championship Saturday and Sunday at University Club of Kentucky in Lexington. 

Only teams in the Top 15 are eligible to participate in the 36-hole tournament.

Mason County has 495 all-state points and is tied with Trinity and St. Henry.

Highlands is No. 1 with 525 points.

Mason County's Evan Schumacher injured in a fall

Evan Schumacher, a rising senior at Mason County High School, suffered multiple injuries in a fall at a rock formation in Morehead on Thursday.

Schumacher was airlifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

His father, Eric, has been providing updates on Facebook. He wrote today, that Evan's "surgery went very well."

Evan is a member of the Mason County golf and basketball teams.

Four Mason County golfers named to All-Region Teams

Four Mason County golfers were named to the All-Region 12 Teams released today by the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Evan Schumacher, Logan Shepherd and Mason Butler were named to the boys' team.

Haley White was named to the girls' team.

Area golfers miss the cut at state tournament

Mason County's Evan Schumacher and Logan Shepherd both shot 12-over 84s today at Bowling Green Country Club and missed the cut at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys State Golf Championships.

Schumacher and Shepherd were individual qualifiers.

Fleming County sophomore Logan Hughes, also an individual qualifier, shot an 83 and missed the cut.

Royals fail to qualify for state, but Butler does as an indvidual

The Mason County Royals finished third in the Region 8 golf tournament today at A.J. Jolly Golf Course and failed to qualify for state, but Mason County freshman Mason Butler will go to state as an individual qualifier.

Butler shot a five-over 76 and secured a spot in the state tournament on the third hole of a playoff. 

Highlands won the region title with a team score of  293. Grant County finished second at 307. Mason County was third at 316.

Evan Schumacher carded a 77 for the Royals. Kaden Grooms shot a 78, Spencer Magee an 85 and Logan Shepherd an 86. The top four scores are used for the team total.

The Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Boys State Golf Tournament will be played October 5th and 6th at Bowling Green Country Club.

Royals win Ashland Invitational

The Mason County Royals won the Ashland Invitational today at Bellefonte Country Club with a score of 326.

Evan Schumacher led the Royals with an 80. He was followed by Mason Butler with an 81, Logan Shepherd an 82 and Kaden Grooms an 83.

Royals 5th in Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational

The Mason County Royals took fifth place in the Mason County/St. Patrick Invitational today at Maysville Country Club with a total of 328.

Scott County won the tournament with a 300. Grant County was second at 307, St. Henry was third at 319 and Greenup County was fourth at 326.

Mason County was led by Mason Butler with a 76. Evan Schumacher shot an 82, Kaden Grooms an 84 and Spencer Magee an 86.
