Lady Panthers pull away early in a 68-46 victory over the Lady Royals

The Mason County Lady Royals had their four-game winning streak snapped by a 68-46 loss to the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Wednesday night at the Lady Royals Gym. 

The loss also snapped the Lady Royals' season-opening 11-game homecourt winning streak.

Mason County led 5-0, but Fleming County answered with an 18-0 run.

The Lady Panthers outshot the Lady Royals 51.7 percent to 20.7 percent from the field in the first half and led 37-15 at haltime.

Mason County applied full-court pressure and closed the gap to 42-30 with 2:55 left in the third quarter, but Fleming County responded with an 11-2 run to push the lead to 53-34 with 5:44 remaining in the game.

The Lady Panthers' biggest lead was 62-39 with 3:22 to play.

Adriana Adams scored a game-high 19 points for Fleming County. Three of her teammates also scored in double figures as Sadie Price followed with 12 points and Abree Argo and Ava Watson each added 11 points.

Amirah Reed made four 3-pointers and scored 17 points for Mason County. Lexi Young had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

For the game, Mason County shot 17-of-61 from the field (27.9 percent) including 6-of-30 from 3-point range.

The Lady Royals (16-10) will be back in action on Friday night vs. Villa Madonna in the Laura Hall Classic at Dayton.

The Lady Panthers (17-8) will travel to Carlisle on Saturday afternoon to play the Nicholas County Lady Jackets.

Three area golfers play in Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls' State Golf First Round

Three area golfers ended the 2023 high school season at the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls' State Golf First Round at Winchester Country Club Tuesday.

Fleming County senior Sadie Price tied for 23rd place at 12-over par 84 and missed being in a playoff for the last individual qualifying spot for the state championships by one shot.

The top 15 individuals not on the top three teams advance to the state championships.

Mason County freshman Sydney Ullery shot a 96 and tied for 50th place.

Lewis County junior Laira Kennedy shot a 103 and finished in 60th place.

Lexington Christian, Montgomery County and Lexington Catholic advance to the state championships at Bowling Green Country Club.

(Updated to correct that Price was one shot short of being in a playoff for the last individual qualifying spot in the state championships.)

Tee times set for State Golf First Round

Tee times are set for the 2023 Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Golf First Round.

Winchester Country Club is the Section 3 site for Regions 9-12. The girls play Monday, the boys Tuesday.

Here are the tee times for area qualifiers:

10:50 a.m. Quin Grooms, Mason County

11:00 a.m. Noah Gardner, Mason County

11:10 a.m. Jake Feldhaus, Mason County

The Mason County Royals, the Region 12 champions, are paired with Madison Central, George Rogers Clark and Rockcastle County.

The top three teams, along with the top 15 individuals not from a qualifying team, will advance to the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Championships at Bowling Green Country Club next month. 

Tickets for the State Golf First Round will be sold online via GoFan, the official digital ticket vendor for the KHSAA. No paper tickets will be sold at the golf course. 

Advance tickets are $10 each. Tickets purchased the day of the event will cost $12 each.

Lady Royals fourth in 12th Region golf tournament, Ullery qualifies for First Round State

The Mason County Lady Royals finished fourth in the 12th Region golf tournament at Hidden Cove Golf Course Monday.

Only the top two teams — Boyd County and Montgomery  advance to the First Round State Golf Tournament next week at Winchester Country Club, but Mason County freshman Sydney Ullery qualified as an individual.

Ullery defeated teammate Maura Hartman in a playoff for the final individual spot.

Sadie Price of Fleming County and Laira Kennedy of Lewis County are also individual qualifiers for the First Round State Golf Tournament.

Lady Royals win tri match at Laurel Oaks

The Mason County Lady Royals won a home tri-match against Fleming County and Lewis County at Laurel Oaks Golf Course Wednesday.

Mason County had a team score of 182, followed by Fleming County at 211 and Lewis County with a score of 221.

Morgan Parker led the Lady Royals with a 43. Bentley Shepherd carded a 45 and Sydney Ullery and Maura Hartman each shot a 47.

Fleming County senior Sadie Price was the medalist with a 40.

Lady Royals win tri-match vs. Fleming County and Lewis County

The Mason County Lady Royals won a tri-match against Fleming County and Lewis County Monday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course.

Mason County finished with a team score of 181. Fleming County was second at 198. Lewis County's team score was 233.

Sydney Ullery led the Lady Royals with a 40 followed by Morgan Parker (43), Bentley Shepherd (46) and Morgan Schroer (52).

Sadie Price shot a 37 to win medalist honors.

Eight area golfers earn All-Region recognition

Eight area golfers earned All-Region recognition from the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Lewis County senior Logan Liles was named Region 12 Golfer of the Year. He is joined on the All-Region Team by the five members of the Mason County Royals region championship team. They are Logan Shepherd, Mason Butler, Grant Owens, Jake Feldhaus and Kaden Grooms.

Macey Littleton of Mason County and Sadie Price of Fleming County were named to the girls' All-Region Team.

All-State points were used to select the All-Region teams.

Tee times set for the first round of the state golf tournaments

The Kentucky High School Athletic Association today released the first round tee times for the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA Golf State Championships next week at Bowling Green Country Club. The first round of the girls' tournament is on October 5. The boys' tournament begins on October 8.

Macey Littleton qualifies for state golf tournament again

Mason County junior Macey Littleton has qualified for the state golf tournament as individual for the third straight year. 

Littleton shot an 87 in the Region 12 tournament at Eagle Trace Golf Course in Morehead and finished in fifth place, five shots behind the individual champion, Boyd County sophomore Kristen Ramey.

Fleming County sophomore Sadie Price shot an 86 and also qualified for state with a fourth place finish.

Greenup County won the tournament with a team score of 383. The region champion is the only team that advances to state. Montgomery County was the runner-up at 405. Boyd County was another shot back in third place. Mason County finished in fourth place with a team score of 410. Fleming County took fifth place at 414.

The Leachman GMC-Buick-Cadillac/KHSAA Girls' State Golf Championship will be played October 5-6 at Bowling Green Country Club.
