Mason Co. girls win Fleming Co. Twilight Invitational

Track and field athletes braved the cold Thursday evening to compete in the Fleming County Twilight Invitational.

Mason County won the girls meet and took third place in the boys meet.

First place finishes by local athletes include:

  • Fleming County senior Mackenzie Purvis in the girls 100 meter hurdles (20.01) 
  • Mason County senior Brendon Garrison in the boys 110 meter hurdles (17.51) and the boys 300 meter hurdles (46.96)
  • Mason County freshman Te'a King in the girls 100 meter dash (14.02) and the girls 200 meter dash (30.10)
  • Mason County senior Hannah Jackson in the girls 400 meter dash (1:09.54)
  • Mason County junior Jordan Frodge in the girls 300 meter hurdles (55.58) and the girls high jump (4-04.00)
  • Mason County junior Rheagan Sizemore in the girls 800 meter run (2:38.89) and the girls pole vault (7-00.00)
  • Mason County senior Devante Stewart in the boys high jump (5-06.00)
  • Mason County sophomore Marissa Scilley in the girls triple jump (30-04.50)
  • Lewis County sophomore Leshia McNamara in the girls discus throw (93-08)
  • Mason County senior Jay Stanley in the boys shot put (46-05.50)
  • Mason County in the girls 4x200 meter relay, the girls 4x100 meter relay and the girls 4x400 meter relay

Jay Stanley is the Class AA State Champion in Shot Put

Mason County junior Jay Stanley is the Class AA state champion in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, two inches. Stanley is the state runner-up in the discus throw at 150 feet, nine inches.
Mason County junior Brendon Garrison took third place in the boys 300 meter hurdles in a time of 42.12. The Mason County girls 4x800 meter relay team of Rheagan Sizemore, Hannah Jackson, Abigail Dawson and Cara Woods took sixth place and set a school record by almost 12 seconds with a time of 10:06.04. The state track and field meet was held today at the University of Kentucky.
Paducah Tilghman won the boys title by one point over Highlands while the North Oldham girls won their second straight championship. The Mason County boys finished in 10th place. The Mason County girls were 29th.

Mason Co. girls 2nd, boys 4th in Track & Field Region Meet

The Mason County girls track and field team's streak of six straight region championships was snapped with a runner-up finish Saturday at Ashland. Ashland Blazer won the region with 157 points. Mason County had 142 points. Russell won the boys' meet with 123 points. Mason County was fourth with 64 points. Mason County athletes who won region titles include:

Jordan Frodge, high jump, 4-10
Brendon Garrison, 110 meter hurdles, 18:10 and 300 meter hurdles, 43:49
Jay Stanley, shot put, 48-00.00
The girls 4x800 meter rely team of Rheagan Sizemore, Cara Woods, Abigail Dawson and Hannah Jackson, 10:24.67
