Paula Buser returning as Mason County Lady Royals' head coach

Paula Buser was named the girls' basketball head coach at Mason County High School today.

Buser was a senior and the leading scorer on the school's first team in the 1974-75 season and she had a 153-93 record as the Lady Royals' head coach from the 2000-01 season through the 2007-08 season.

As the head coach, she guided the Lady Royals to six district championships and three 10th Region runner-up finishes.

Buser was elected to the 10th Region Hall of Fame in 2013.

Kevin Bundy resigned in March after one season as the Lady Royals' head coach. Jordan Gilbert was named the girls' head coach on May 6 and coached the Lady Royals during summer basketball. But he resigned earlier this month to become the boys' head coach at Green County.

An official introduction of Buser will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the Mason County High School Library.

Jordan Gilbert is the new head coach of the Mason County girls' basketball team

Jordan Gilbert, a 2011 graduate of Mason County High School and an assistant coach for the Mason County boys' basketball team the past four seasons, is the new head coach of the Mason County girls' basketball team.

Gilbert will be the Lady Royals' third head coach in as many seasons. he succeeds Kevin Bundy who retired after one season.

Maysville--- The Mason County High School Athletic Department would like to announce Coach Jordan Gilbert as the new Head Girls Basketball Coach at Mason County High School.

Coach Gilbert has been an assistant with the Mason County High School boys basketball program for the past four seasons. Previously he served as an assistant at Madison Central and Mercer County.

Coach Gilbert is a 2011 graduate of Mason County High School. During his time with the Royals, he was a 4-time 39th District Champion, a 2008 KHSAA State Champion, and a 2010 KHSAA Final Four Participant. Following his playing days with the Royals, Coach Gilbert continued his academic and athletic career at Transylvania University before transferring to Asbury University where he completed his coursework, while being a dual-sport athlete for the Eagles (Basketball and Golf).

Coach Gilbert has been serving as the Mason County Middle School Physical Education teacher since the 2018-19 academic school year. Coach Gilbert and his wife, Chelsea, have one son, Jace.

An official introduction is scheduled for Monday, May 9, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. in the Mason County High School Library and Media Center.

Mason County looking for a new girls' basketball coach after Kevin Bundy retires

Mason County High School is looking for a new girls' basketball coach following the retirement of Kevin Bundy after he coached the Lady Royals for one season.

The school issued this announcement this afternoon:

Coach Kevin Bundy has informed the Athletic Directors and Administration at Mason County High School that he will retire from coaching. A search for he next Girls Basketball Coach at Mason County High School will begin immediately. All interested applicants should send a resume and cover letter to Brian Kirk at Brian.kirk@mason.kyschools.us

Bundy guided the Lady Royals to a district championship and an 18-10 record. He was hired at Mason County last June after five seasons as the girls' coach at Bishop Brossart. Bundy guided the Lady 'Stangs to the 2021 10th Region championship and a trip to the state tournament.

Kevin Bundy is the new girls' basketball coach at Mason County

Kevin Bundy, who guided the Bishop Brossart Lady 'Stangs to the 10th Region championship and a trip to the state tournament this past season, is the new girls' basketball coach at Mason County High School.

He succeeds Brad Cox who resigned after six seasons as Mason County's coach. Cox is now the head coach of the Fleming County Lady Panthers.

Bundy had a 95-52 record in five seasons as Bishop Brossart's head coach. His teams won the All "A" 10th Region Tournament in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

He also served as Bishop Brossart's athletic director. 

Prior to serving as the Lady 'Stangs coach, Bundy was an assistant boys' basketball coach at Lloyd Memorial, Simon Kenton, Highlands and Bishop Brossart.

"I'm tremendously excited and honored to be selected as the next head coach at Mason County," Bundy said in a press release from Mason County High School. "The program's tradition of success and great community support make this one of the top jobs in not only the region, but in the Commonwealth."

An official introduction is scheduled Monday at 7 p.m. in the Mason County High School library.
