Local sports notes

There are not many local sports notes during the COVID-19 pandemic, but here are a couple:

• St. Patrick senior Justina Klee has committed to Campbellsville University-Harrodsburg. Klee averaged 11.1 points and 5.9 rebounds a game this past season. She is a member of the Lady Saints' 1,000 point club.

• The Ohio High School Athletic Association announced Thursday that 2020 state tournaments for basketball, wrestling and ice hockey have been moved from postponed to canceled. 

• This isn't a local sports note, but I was saddened to see where Harlem Globetrotters legend Curly Neal died. Neal was known for his fancy dribbling skills. Every time a player slipped and kept his dribble when I was calling games, I would say the player looked like Curly Neal. 

Lady Saints beat Dayton 58-45

Three Lady Saints scored in double figures to lead St. Patrick to a 58-45 victory over the Dayton Lady Devils tonight at The Shamrock.

Allison Hughes led the way with 24 points. Caroline McKay followed with 14 points and Justina Klee added 10 points.

Dayton senior Johnessah Barbiea mached Hughes' 24 points.

The Lady Saints are back in action Friday night at Bracken County.

Lady Saints close out regular season with a loss to Sayre

The St. Patrick Lady Saints closed out the regular season with a 61-44 loss to the Sayre Lady Spartans tonight at The Shamrock.

The Lady Saints beat the Lady Spartans 32-28 in Lexington on January 4th, but were outscored 37-24 in the second half of tonight's rematch.

McKenna Roush led St. Patrick in scoring with 14 points. Justina Klee added 13 points.

The Lady Saints play the Augusta Lady Panthers in the 39th District Tournament semifinals Tuesday night at The Fieldhouse.

Lady Saints rally for road win over Rose Hill Christian

The St. Patrick Lady Saints rallied from a 10-point deficit late in the fourth quarter and edged the Rose Hill Christian Lady Royals 52-51 Saturday in Ashland.

The Lady Saints outscored the Lady Royals 22-14 in the fourth quarter.

Allison Hughes made an old fashioned three-point play to give St. Patrick a 52-49 lead. Rose Hill Christian made a shot for the final margin.

Justina Klee led the Lady Saints in scoring with 14 points. McKenna Roush tossed in 13 points. Hughes added 10 points. 

St. Patrick plays at Lewis County tonight.

Big 3rd quarter boosts Lady Saints to a win over St. Joseph

After scoring just two points in the second quarter and only 17 in the first half, the St. Patrick Lady Saints exploded for 21 points in the third quarter on their way to a 48-46 victory over the St. Joseph Central Lady Flyers tonight at The Shamrock.

The Lady Saints trailed by six points at the half, but were up 38-30 after the productive third quarter.

Justina Klee led St. Patrick in scoring with 11 points. Libby Gallenstein added 10 points.

The Lady Saints travel to Ashland Saturday afternoon to play the Rose Hill Christian Lady Royals.

St. Patrick swept by Augusta in girls and boys DH

St. Patrick and Augusta met for the third time this season Tuesday night and Augusta swept the girls and boys doubleheader at The Shamrock.

The Lady Panthers defeated the Lady Saints 43-33.

Justina Klee led the Lady Saints in scoring with 13 points.

The Panthers topped the Saints 81-55.

Jack Gallenstein scored 15 points to lead four Saints in double figures. L.J. Connor followed with 12 points, Braylon Hamilton tossed in 11 points and Pat McKay added 10 points. 

Augusta won two of three girls' games and all three of the boys' games versus St. Patrick this season. The Lady Saints' win over the Lady Panthers was in the 10th Region All "A" Classic last week.

The two schools could meet again in the 39th District Tournament.

Klee leads Lady Saints past Burgin

Justina Klee scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the St. Patrick Lady Saints to a 48-26 victory over the Burgin Lady Bulldogs Friday night at The Shamrock.

The Lady Saints have won four of their last five games to even their record at 7-7.

St. Patrick plays Augusta Sunday at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region All "A" Classic at Campbell County Middle School.

Lady Saints lose to Bath County 59-31 on the road

The St. Patrick Lady Saints had their three-game winning streak snapped by a 59-31 loss to the Bath County Lady Wildcats Tuesday night in Owingsville.

Justina Klee led St. Patrick in scoring with eight points.

The Lady Saints host Burgin Friday night.

St. Patrick and Robertson County split a doubleheader

St. Patrick and Robertson County split a girls and boys doubleheader at The Shamrock last night.

Justina Klee had a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds and Allison Hughes scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Lady Saints to a 56-44 victory over the Lady Devils. 

The win snapped St. Patrick's four-game losing streak. The Lady Saints play at Sayre today at 6 p.m.

In the boys' game last night, the Saints trailed 27-4 at the end of the first quarter and lost to the Black Devils 89-40.

Jaylan Rigdon made three three-pointers and led St. Patrick in scoring with 15 points.

The Saints host Silver Grove Saturday night in the second game of a girls and boys doubleheader.

Lady Saints close out pre-Christmas schedule with a 60-42 loss to Fleming County

The St. Patrick Lady Saints closed out their pre-Christmas schedule with a 60-42 loss to the Fleming County Lady Panthers tonight at The Shamrock.

Fleming County led 12-3 at the end of the first quarter. St. Patrick used an 11-0 run to take a one-point lead in the second quarter, but the Lady Panthers answered and were up 25-16 at the half on the way to their first victory of the season.

Sidney Argo scored a game-high scored 27 points for Fleming County. Caroline Price added 15 points.

Caroline McKay led St. Patrick with 12 points. Justina Klee followed with 11 points and Allison Hughes added 10 points.

The Lady Saints return to action December 27 in the Pepsi Classic at Ripley.

Lady Saints edged by Augusta 55-54 in OT

Alexis Shields made 1-of-2 free throws with 1.6 seconds left in overtime to give the Augusta Lady Panthers a 55-54 victory over the St. Patrick Lady Saints tonight in the Hoops for Hope at the Panthers Den in Augusta.

With the score tied at 54-54, St. Patrick had a chance to take the lead, but missed a shot and was called for a foul on the rebound.

Augusta was in the double bonus. Shields missed the first free throw, but made the second.

The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Saints 11-10 in the extra period.

Nicole Arthur scored a game-high 21 points for Augusta.

Three Lady Saints scored in double figures, led by Justina Klee with 18 points. Libby Gallenstein scored 12 points and Caroline McKay added 10 points.

St. Patrick is back in action Wednesday night at home against Fleming County.

Lady Saints lose to Pendleton County 58-44

The St. Patrick Lady Saints suffered their first loss of the season Thursday night, falling to the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats 58-44 in Falmouth.

Justina Klee scored a game-high 17 points for St. Patrick.

The Lady Saints travel to Ironton, Ohio next Thursday night to play St. Joseph Central.

Lady Saints rout Covington Latin 54-18

The St. Patrick Lady Saints routed the Covington Latin Trojans 54-18 in their season opener tonight at The Shamrock.

The Lady Saints led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter and 29-6 at halftime.

Allison Hughes and Caroline McKay scored 13 points apiece and Justina Klee added 12 points.

The Lady Saints host Rose Hill Christian Saturday night.

Lady Saints run win streak to 6 games and record to 12-12 with a win over Rose Hill Christian

The St. Patrick Lady Saints ran their winning streak to six games and evened their record at 12-12 with a 45-42 road win over the Rose Hill Christian Lady Royals Saturday afternoon.

After trailing by a point at the end of the third quarter, the Lady Saints outscored the Lady Royals 16-12 in the fourth quarter.

St. Patrick was led in scoring by Allison Hughes with 16 points.

Libby Gallenstein and Justina Klee scored 10 points apiece.

The Lady Saints are back in action Tuesday night at Villa Madonna.

Lady Saints rally to beat Rose Hill Christian

The St. Patrick Lady Saints rallied from a 15-point first quarter deficit to beat the Rose Hill Christian Lady Royals 60-45 tonight at The Shamrock.

Rose Hill Christian reeled off 19 straight points and led 22-9 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lady Saints outscored the Lady Royals 10-3 in the second quarter, then, opened the third quarter on a 14-0 run.

St. Patrick led 48-36 in the fourth quarter. Rose Hill Christian closed to within 48-42 and 50-44, but the Lady Saints were able to hold on for their seventh win of the season.

Caroline McKay and Justina Klee scored 16 points apiece and Libby Gallenstein and Allison Hughes each scored 12 points.

The Lady Saints are back in action Friday night at Burgin.

Saints derail Trains in girls and boys doubleheader

Justina Klee scored 15 points and Libby Gallenstein tossed in 10 points to lead the St. Patrick Lady Saints to 41-21 victory over the Silver Grove Lady Trains, and the St. Patrick Saints hit 15 three-pointers in a 76-34 win over the Silver Grove Big Trains 76-34 tonight at The Shamrock.

Patrick McKay made seven three-pointers for a game-high 21 points, Baylen Bauer hit six three-pointers and followed with 20 points and Chandler Black added 19 points including a trey.

The Saints outscored the Big Trains 28-2 in the second quarter.

St. Patrick will host Berea for a girls and boys doubleheader Saturday.

The St. Patrick Lady Saints closed out their pre-Christmas schedule with a 62-31 loss to the Paris Lady Hounds today at The Shamrock.

Paris led 19-4 at the end of the first quarter, 33-10 at halftime and 47-14 at the end of the fourth quarter.

Justina Klee led the Lady Saints in scoring with 13 points.

The St. Patrick Lady Saints led 26-2 at the end of the first quarter and 42-4 at halftime on their way to a 50-17 season-opening win over Covington Latin Tuesday night.

Bracken Co. tops St. Patrick 57-26 in girls SF

The Bracken County Lady Bears pulled away from the St.Patrick Lady Saints in the third quarter for a 57-26 victory in the lower bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at the Mason County Fieldhouse.

The Lady Bears outscored the Lady Saints 24-5 in the third quarter and ended the quarter on a 21-0 run for 55-20 lead.

St. Patrick only had seven field goals in the game.

There were 46 fouls and 59 free throws between the two teams.

Madison Kalb scored a game-high 15 points for Bracken County.

Kennedy Carl added 11 points.

Justina Klee led St. Patrick in scoring with nine points.

Bracken County plays Mason County in the district championship game Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
