Mason County wrestlers compete at state

The high school wrestling season ended with the KHSAA State Wrestling Championships Thursday through Saturday at Alltech Arena in Lexington.

Breanna Rosenberg (152), the first Mason County female to qualify for the state tournament, went 0-2.

Evan Martin (113) went 1-2, Bryson Carrington (150) and Theron Ritchie (285) both went 0-2.

The tournament is double-elimination.

Three Mason County wrestlers qualify for the boys' state tournament

Three Mason County wrestlers have qualified for the boys' state tournament.

Evan Martin (113) was the Region 8 runner-up on Saturday at Boyd County Middle School. Martin is a back-to-back state qualifier.

Bryson Carrington (150) is a three-time state qualifier after taking fourth place at the region tournament.

Theron Ritchie (HWT) took third place at region to earn his first trip to the state tournament.

Three other Ragin' Royals placed at the region tournament:

  • Adam Miller (120), fifth place
  • Creston Fuller (138), fifth place
  • Taten Carrington (175), sixth place
Mason County finished fifth out of 23 teams.

The Boys' State Wrestling Championships presented by UK HealthCare will take place February 28 and March 1 at Alltech Arena in Lexington.

Royals go 2-2 at state duals, Lady Royals compete at GRC

The Mason County boys wrestling team went 2-2 at the Kentucky Wrestling Coaches Association state duals on Saturday at Corbin Arena.

The Royals lost to Ft. Campbell 39-38 and McCreary County Central 38-36 and defeated Bell County 51-27 and Green County 46-36.

Mason County missed on advancing to the placement rounds by four points.

Three wrestlersEvan Martin, Caleb Roy and Theron Ritchie—were undefeated.

The Lady Royals competed at the Lady Cardinal Invite, an individual event at George Rogers Clark.

Breanna Rosenberg finished first, Abby Staggs third, Heaven Marshall fourth, Autumn Jackson fourth and Paige Collins fifth.
