John Bess runs the Boston Marathon

John Bess of Maysville ran the Boston Marathon on Monday completing the 26.2 miles in 3:22:06.

Some of his splits include: 

10K 00:49:49

Half 01:44:20

20K 01:38:52

35K 02:50:04

Bess, an employee of Stober Drives, also ran the Boston Marathon in 2022. 

Bess completed the virtual Boston Marathon in 2020 running the 26.2 miles here in Maysville.

Maysville well-represented at Boston Marathon

Maysville was well-represented at the 126th Boston Marathon on Monday with three runners with local connections finishing  the race which was held for the first time in three years. 

Michael Srinivasan, a Maysville native now living in Indiana, finished in 2:26.11. 

Srinivasan's sister, Amrita Iyengar of Maysville, had a time of 3:17.40. 

John Bess, also of Maysville, who was coming off an injury that limited his training, finished in 4:46.04. 

Bess and Iyengar are two of the top runners in Maysville. Bess won both the Two Bridge 10-Miler and the Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run last year. Iyengar was the top female finisher in the 2021 Two-Bridge 10-Miler.

Bess completed the virtual Boston Marathon in 2020, running the 26.2 miles here in Maysville.

John Bess wins Two Bridge 10-miler, Amrita Srinivasan top female finisher

John Bess of Maysville won the Two Bridge 10-Miler hosted by Maysville Rotary Club this morning. Bess finished with a time of 1:03:09.

Amrita Srinivasan, also of Maysville, was the top female finisher with a time of 1:09:11.

Joshua Donahue of Walton, KY won the Two Bridge 5K. Katelynn Boerger of Seaman, Ohio was the top female finisher.

John Bess wins KC Joe Donovan Memorial Run; Elizabeth Lavinder top female finisher

John Bess won the Knights of Columbus Joe Donovan Memorial River Run which took place this morning after a one-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Bess completed the 5K course in a time of 19:06. Nathanial Grayson finished second

Elizabeth Lavinder was the top female finisher with a time of 21:20. Kayla Lykins was the female runner-up.

Gabe Grutza runs virtual New York City Marathon

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the New York City Marathon to go virtual. Gabe Grutza of Maysville took advantage of the opportunity and completed the 26.2 miles here in Maysville on Saturday with a time of 3:27:56.

Grutza started the race at 6:35 a.m.

Runners were permitted to run the 26.2 miles in a single run anytime between October 17 and November 1. Runners who registered and complete their virtual run receive a finisher medal and marathon branded running buff.

Grutza is at least the second Maysville resident to run a virtual marathon this year. John Bess ran the virtual Boston Marathon on September 7.

John Bess completes virtual Boston Marathon

Maysville resident John Bess celebrated Labor Day by completing the virtual Boston Marathon here is Maysville.

Bess ran the 26.2 miles in a time of 3:45:59. His run ended on Market Street.

Bess qualified for the 124th running of the Boston Marathon, but the race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Bess to run in the virtual Boston Marathon on Labor Day

Maysville resident John Bess will run the virtual Boston Marathon on Labor Day and he invites other runners to join him along his route.

Bess qualified for the 124th running of the Boston Marathon, but the race was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bess will start running at 7 a.m. on Monday at Limestone Landing. His 26.2 mile route will take him across both the William Harsha Bridge and the Simon Kenton Memorial Bridge, a lap around the lake at the Maysville-Mason County Recreation Park, down Hill City Road, the east and west ends of Maysville, ending at Market Street.

Bess plans to run between an eight-minute and nine-minute mile pace. He invites runners to join him wherever they feel comfortable.

All qualified runners who complete the virtual marathon within a six-hour time period and have proof of their time will receive an official Boston Marathon program, t-shirt, medal and runner's bib.
