Lady Royals fall to Scott 56-50

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Scott Lady Eagles 56-50 Tuesday night in Taylor Mill.

The Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Royals 23-16 in the fourth quarter.

The loss snapped Mason County's three-game winning streak.

Briana McNutt scored a game-high 20 points and Jordan Frodge added 10 points.

Scott was led in scoring by Alexis Stapleton with 19 points and Anna Clephane with 18 points.

Mason County hosts Rowan County tonight at the Lady Royals Gym.

Lady Royals upset by Scott in region semifinals

The Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Scott Lady Eagles 63-62 Friday night in the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament at Campbell County Middle School.

Mason County led 39-31 with three minutes left in the third quarter, but Scott scored the final seven points of the quarter- part of a 21-11 run that gave the Lady Eagles a 52-50 lead with 2:59 left in the game.

After Kara Moran scored to tie the game at 52-52, Scott scored six straight points. Brianna McNutt's 3-pointer cut the deficit in half, but the Lady Eagles scored the next three points to lead 61-55 with 25 seconds left.

Two free throws by Jordan Frodge with 17 seconds to go and two free throws by McNutt got Mason County to within two at 61-59. Scott sophomore Alexis Stapleton sealed the win by making two free throws with three seconds remaining. Frodge hit a last second 3-pointer.

Whitney O'Mara had a game-high 21 points and scored her 1,000th career point. McNutt scored 12 points and Frodge added 11.

Stapleton led Scott in scoring with 19 points. Anna Clephane added 16 points.

The loss snapped Mason County's nine-game winning streak.

Scott advances to the championship game to play Campbell County in a rematch of the 37th District finals. Campbell County beat Clark County 73-71 in overtime in the other semifinal.
