85th Chippeways begins Friday at MCC

The 85th Chippeways match play golf tournament, postponed in June, takes place Friday through Sunday at Maysville Country Club.

First round matches will be played on Friday, the quarterfinals on Saturday and the semifinals and finals on Sunday.

Eric Schumacher won the tournament for the sixth time last year.
Three other former champions- Joe Traxel, Drew Traxel and Jackson Frame- are also in the championship flight.

Here are the first round pairings for the championship flight:

Mason County's 1967 state champion golf team recognized

Mason County's 1967 state champion golf team was recognized at halftime of the Mason County vs. Lexington Catholic basketball game tonight.

In the photo from left to right are Charlie Calvert, Fred Hester, Coach Steve Barnett, Steve Poynter and Sparky McDowell.

Two other members of the team- Joe Traxel and Bob Cochran- were unable to attend.

Mason County High School principal Chris O'Hearn presented medals to the team members and Coach Barnett.
