Local results for the XC state championships

The Mason County Lady Royals finished 25th at the Kentucky Beef Council KHSAA Class AA State Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Junior Kolby Galloway led the Lady Royals with a time of 22:31.19.

The other five Lady Royals and their times include: 

Lily Dean 24:25.02

Ava Winter 25:55.56

Calleigh Passmore 26:02.60

Sophie Dean 26:16.27

Ellen Clarke 33:19.73

Four Royals were individual qualifiers for the boys' race:

Daniel Klump 18:17.22

John Yazell 19:48.69

Parker Mead 20:58.08

Shawn Hardin 21:01.12

St. Patrick senior Gabe Sammons was an individual qualifier for the boys' Class A meet and finished with a time of 19:08.84

Class AA Kentucky Beef Council KHSAA Cross Country State Championships are Saturday

Ten Mason County runners will compete in the Kentucky Beef Council KHSAA Cross Country State Championships on Saturday at Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Runners for the Lady Royals include Ellen Clarke, Lily Dean, Sophie Dean, Kolby Galloway, Calleigh Passmore and Ava Winter.

Four RoyalsDaniel Klump, Shawn Hardin, Parker Mead and John Yazell were individual qualifiers.

The boys' race is scheduled at 12:30 p.m. followed by the girls' race at 1:15 p.m.

Royals cross country team wins second straight region title, Lady Royals take fourth place

Last year the Mason County Royals cross country team won a region championship for the first time since 1973.

On Saturday the Royals won their second straight region title, finishing with 40 points and edging the Russell Red Devils by eight points at Bourbon County Park.

The Mason County Lady Royals finished in fourth place and also qualified for the state meet.

Mason County senior Deshawn Overly won the boys' individual championship with a time of 16:14.58.

Two other Mason County seniors had top five finishes. Ed Brannon was the runner-up (16:41.24) and Elijah Reed took fifth place (17:51.02).

The Royals also got top 20 finishes from sophomore Parker Mead in 15th place (18:54.26), junior Daniel Klump in 17th place (19:03.69) and junior John Yazell (19:12.41).

The Lady Royals were led by sophomore Kolby Galloway in seventh place (22:01.40) and junior Lilly Dean(23:57.63).

Royals XC team wins Area 7 Championship, Lady Royals take third place

The Mason County Royals cross country team won the Area 7 Championship on Saturday in West Liberty.

Dashawn Overly led the Royals with a first place finish (16:24.62) to earn Area 7 Runner of the Year and First Team All Area 7 honors.

Ed Brannon was second (16:39.91) and Elijah Reed was sixth (18:08:89). They were both named First Team All Area 7.

Kolby Galloway led the Lady Royals with a fourth place finish (21:52.97) and is First Team All Area 7.

Two other Mason County runners were named Second Team All-Area 7Brooklyn Young who was 13th in the girls' race (23:27.68) and Parker Mead who was 14th in the boys' race (19:01.70).

Mason County will host the Buffalo Trace Conference Championship meet on Tuesday.
