Grutza throws to the Royals

Former Mason County and University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza stopped by the Mason County football field last month and worked on his passing with four Mason County players. Grutza took part in the University of Cincinnati's Pro Day workouts last week.

Grutza signs with an agent, takes a shot at the NFL
Former Mason County and University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza signed with an agent last week and is attending a five-week NFL training camp in Tampa. He also plans to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine next month in Indianapolis. Grutza passed for 4,476 yards and 29 touchdowns in his four seasons at UC. Grutza suffered a broken leg against Oklahoma last Sept. 6. He returned to action Nov. 14.Photo credit: Katie Hunter

Grutza throws TD pass in UC's 29-24 win over Hawaii
Dustin Grutza threw what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown pass in the University of Cincinnati's 29-24 victory over Hawaii Saturday night. Grutza entered the game in the second quarter and returned in the fourth quarter. He completed a 69 yard touchdown pass to Marty Gilyard with 4:42 left in the game. Grutza completed 3-of-7 passes for 75 yards. The touchdown pass was his fifth of the season. UC will play Virginia Tech in the FedEx Orange Bowl on Jan. 1 in Miami.

Grutza in for UC's final drive, Bearcats Big East Champs
Dustin Grutza entered the game on the Cincinnati Bearcats' final drive of a 30-10 victory over Syracuse. Cincinnati is the Big East Conference Champion. Grutza did not attempt a pass. He handed off to the running backs on the final seven plays of the game. UC (10-2) closes out the regular season Dec. 6 at Hawaii.

CINCINNATI - University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza (Maysville, Ky./Mason County) underwent successful surgery on his right leg Wednesday.The surgery was performed by Dr. Angelo Colosimo, the Bearcats' team orthopedic surgeon. Grutza suffered a fractured right fibula and high ankle sprain in the fourth quarter of UC's 52-26 loss at No. 4/4 Oklahoma on Sept. 6. He was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2 and was 40-of-57 for 514 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in 2008. Grutza also added 44 yards rushing and two rushing touchdowns. He is out indefinitely and no timetable has been set for his return.

Grutza breaks leg in UC's loss to Oklahoma
University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza suffered a fractured right fibula in the Bearcats' 52-26 loss at Oklahoma today. Grutza left the game with 12:43 remaining in the fourth quarter. Grutza completed 19 of 29 passes for 218 yards and a touchdown. He also threw an interception. Grutza rushed for 11 yards and a touchdown.

NCCA denies Mauk's appeal, Grutza to start for UC
The NCAA denied Ben Mauk's appeal for a sixth year of eligibilty. That means former Mason County standout Dustin Grutza will once again be the starting quarterback for the University of Cincinnati. Reds Win on Maysville-Mason County Night

The Cincinnati Reds rallied to beat the Washington Nationals 5-3 on Maysville-Mason County Night at Great American Ball Park Thursday night. Maysville native Bart Conway coordinated the event. He is a group sales representative for the Reds. Conway said around 400 tickets were purchased by local fans. Several of us from WFTM sat in the Reds Radio Affiliate Suite. We hosted our Reds on Radio local sponsors. Reds radio announcer Thom Brenneman stopped in and visited with us. Mason County Judge-Executive James "Buddy" Gallenstein, State Representative Mike Denham, Maysville Mayor David Cartmell and University of Cincinnati quarterback Dustin Grutza were on the field for the pre-game ceremony (photo). There was a fireworks display after the game. Conway is already talking about plans for Maysville-Mason County Night next season.
