Jacob Tompkins and Baker U. headed to NAIA championship

Former Mason County Royals kicker and punter Jacob Tompkins and his Baker University teammates advanced to the NAIA championship game with a 45-41 victory over Eastern Oregon in the semifinals Saturday.

Tompkins, a junior,  punted six times for 206 yards (34.3 average) Saturday. His longest punt of the game was 44 yards.

No. 2 Baker will play No. 4 University of St. Francis (Ind.) in the championship game Saturday, December 17 in Daytona Beach, Florida

Jacob Tompkins and Baker University in NAIA SFs

Former Mason County football player Jacob Tompkins will be playing in the semifinals of the NAIA-FCS playoffs Saturday.

Tompkins is a punter for No. 2 Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas.

The Wildcats defeated No.8 Lindsey Wilson College 42-27 in the quarterfinals last Saturday to reach the semifinals for the first time since 1993.

Tompkins, a junior, punted six times in the game with an average of 35.7 yards. His longest punt was 57 yards equaling his season high.

Baker will play No. 9 Eastern Oregon Saturday at 1:06 p.m. (CST). The game will be broadcast on ESPN 3/Watch ESPN App.
