Mason County boys' 4x400 meter relay wins at KTCCCA President's Day Weekend Invite 2022

The Mason County boys' 4x400 relay team won the event at the KTCCCA President's Day Weekend Invite 2022 on Sunday in Louisville. 

The team of Alix Flinders, Austin Moreland, Anthony Bozeman and Hunter Kinney won with a time of 3:34.34. 

The meet was held at the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, the site of the indoor state championships this weekend.

Lady Royals win meet, Young and Barrett break their own schools again

The Mason County Lady Royals indoor track and field team made it 3-for-3 this season by winning Mason County Indoor Meet #3 on Saturday, and Lexi Young and AJ Barrett broke their own school records once again.

The Lady Royals had a total of 103 points. Dixie Heights finished second with 71.5 points.

St. Henry won the boys' meet with 92 points. The Mason County Royals took fourth place with 60 points.

Young, an eighth grader, won the girls' high jump, breaking her own school record by clearing 5-04.00. That's No. 1 mark in Class AA. Young also won the girls' long jump (16-00.75). Barrett, a junior, won the boys pole vault and broke his own school record by clearing 12-00.00. Barrett also has the No. 1 ranking in Class AA.

Two other Mason County athletes won their events -- Layla Henderson, the girls' 800 meter run (34.31) and Alix Flinders, the boys' 400 meter dash (57.00).

The KTCCCA Class AA Indoor State Championships are this Saturday in Louisville. The Mason County girls' and boys' are the defending state champions.

The Mason County girls Indoor Track Meet #1 and three new school records set

The Mason County Lady Royals indoor track and field team won Mason County Indoor Meet # 1 on Saturday and three individual school indoor records were broken.

The Lady Royals finished with 151 points. Dixie Heights was the runner-up with 97.5 points.

Bishop Brossart won the boys' meet with 89 points. Mason County finished in sixth place with 76 points.

Layla Henderson broke her own 3000 meter school record by more than 25 seconds. She won the race with a time of 10:46.13.

Lexi Young set new school records in both the high jump (5-02.00) and the long jump (16-04.75). She won both events.

Other Mason County first place finishers in the high school meet include:

  • The girls' 4x800 meter relay team (10:59.31)
  • Karis Applegate, girls' 55 meter dash (7.66)
  • Paige decker, girls' 800 meter run (2:44.09)
  • The girls' 4x400 meter relay team (4:39.19)
  • Alix Flinders, boys' 400 meter dash (56.38)
  • The boys' 4x400 team (3.53.53)
  • AJ Barrett, boys' pole vault, (11-06.00)

AJ Barrett breaks pole vault record in second straight meet

Mason County sophomore AJ Barrett broke his own school record in the pole vault for the second straight week today at Mason County indoor track and field meet #2.

Barrett cleared 11 feet today to win the event. He cleared 10-09.00 in last week's season opening meet.

Dixie Heights won the girls' meet today while West Jessamine won the boys' meet. Mason County finished second in the girls' meet and third in the boys' meet. 

Mason County athletes joining Barrett with first place finishes include:

  • Kenzie Gulley, girls' 55 meter dash (7.82)
  • Morgan Carpenter, girls' 400 meter dash (1:08.61)
  • Layla Henderson, girls' 800 meter run (2:37.58)
  • Paige Decker, girls' 3000 meter run (11:46. 92)
  • Alix Flinders, boys' 55 meter dash (7.18)
Bracken County junior Payton Tulley won the boys' shot put with a toss of 35-00.00.
