Saints snap 13-game losing skid, Royals beat Bracken County

The St. Patrick Saints snapped a 13-game losing streak and avenged a 30-1 loss to Augusta with a 6-5 win over the Panthers tonight in the semifinals of the 39th District baseball tournament at Augusta. The Saints scored five runs in the third inning to lead 6-2. Augusta scored three runs in the top seventh inning and had a runner on third with one out. But Stephen Mason got back-to-back strikeouts to end the game. It is St. Patrick's first win since a 14-5 victory over Silver Grove in their season opener on March 27.
The Mason County Royals used a seven-run third inning to beat the Bracken County Polar Bears 13-5 in the first game. Mason County led 13-0 in the middle of the fourth inning. Lee Sutton pitched a complete game and struck out 10 batters.
St. Patrick (2-13) and Mason County (13-15) meet in the championship game Tuesday at 6 p.m. in Augusta.

Lee Sutton will play football at Lindsey Wilson College

Mason County senior Lee Sutton has signed to play football at Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Ky. Lindsey Wilson will start playing football this fall after a 75-year hiatus. The Blue Raiders will compete in the Mid-South Conference. Sutton, who played center and defensive end for Mason County, says he was recruited to play center and long snapper at Lindsey Wilson. Sutton is a pitcher and first baseman on the Mason County baseball team. Here is a link to the Lindsey Wilson football site.

Mason County beats St. Patrick 19-1 in five innings

The Mason County Royals evened their record at 2-2 with a 19-1 win over the St. Patrick Saints in five innings tonight. The Royals sent 12 batters to plate and scored eight runs in the second inning.
Three Mason County pitchers combined on a one-hitter. Trevor Taylor started and picked up the win. He had four singles and drove in two runs. Lee Sutton and Josh Stafford had two RBI each. Mason County plays at Montgomery County Thursday. St. Patrick (1-2) hosts Augusta April 14.

Lee Sutton selected to play in the Best of the Bluegrass East vs. West All-Star Football game

Mason County center Lee Sutton has been selected to play in the 3rd Annual Best of the Bluegrass East vs. West All-Star Football Game Friday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Western Kentucky University. Royals football team taking part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Mason County football team has several special events planned to promote breast cancer awareness:

• Proceeds from the tailgate party prior to the Oct. 23 game against Fleming County will be donated to a breast cancer charity;
• Proceeds from the sale of pink spirit gear during the month of October will go to a breast cancer charity;
• The Royals will wear the breast cancer decal on their helmets;
• The following players have or will do community service for breast cancer and will wear additional pink on Friday night: Jordan Gilbert, Josh Harris, Neal Pawsat, Brad Lang, and Lee Sutton.

Many of the schools in Kentucky are doing this in particular support of the Paul Rains family and Jeff Reese family. Paul is the head coach at Lexington Christian and his wife, Denise, is fighting breast cancer. Jeff coaches at Owensboro. His sister, Julie, is currently fighting breast cancer. Jeff's dad, Randy Reese, is a former coach at Paris
