Lady Royals qualify for state XC meet with a 3rd place finish in region

The Mason County Lady Royals qualified for the Class 2A state cross country meet with a third place finish in the Region 6 meet Saturday at Boyd County.

The Ashland Kittens won the region by two points over the Russell Lady Red Devils. Mason County finished 12 points behind Ashland. 

Mason County was led by 8th grader Hayden Faris with an 8th place finish in a time of 21:11.14.

Three other Mason County runners finished in the Top 20- Rheagan Sizemore (14th), Kylee Howe (16th) and Nichole Caba (17th).

Fleming County senior Olivia Leet took 6th place with a time of 20:47.51 and qualified for the state meet.

Mason County freshmen Connor Linville and Isaiah Riggs and Fleming County junior Robert Applegate are individual qualifiers for the state meet. Linville took 8th place in a time of 18:00.55.

The state meet is Saturday at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington. The boys Class 2A meet starts at 11:30 a.m. followed by the girls Class 2A meet at 12:15 p.m.

Bracken Co. boys, Mason Co. girls win Buffalo Trace Conference XC meet

The Bracken County boys and the Mason County girls won the Buffalo Trace Conference Cross Country meet at Mason County Wednesday night.

Bracken County senior Jacob Hamilton was the boys individual champion with a time of 16:27.91.

Fleming County senior Olivia Leet won the girls race with a time of 20:18.79.

A trophy is awarded to the school that has the lowest combined boys and girls varsity score. For the first time, Bracken County won the trophy over Mason County. Bracken County had 60 points. Mason County had 77.

Lady Royals win Boyd Co. XC Invitational, Rheagan Sizmore individual champion

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team won the Boyd County Invitational Saturday, and Mason County senior Rheagan Sizemore won the individual championship with a time of 21:22.87.

Mason County eighth grader Hayden Faris finished in fourth place with a time of 21:44.28.

Fleming County senior Olivia Leet took sixth place with a time of 22:08.76.

Boyd County won the boys meet. Mason County finished in sixth place and was led by two freshmen- Connor Linville in third place (18:07.61) and Isaiah Riggs in fifth place (18:30.83).

Boyd County will host the Area Championship on October 15. 

Lexington Christian boys and girls sweep Mason County All Comers XC meet

The Lexington Christian boys and girls cross country teams swept the Mason County All Comers meet Tuesday night.

The Mason County girls were the runners-up. The Mason County boys took third place.

The Lexington Christian boys are ranked No.1 in Class A, the girls team is No. 2.

Lexington Christian had the top three finishers in the boys race- Adam Huff  (16:52), Andrew Madden (17:04) and Connor Hayes  (17:08).

Manchester junior Ethan Pennywitt took fourth place (17:25) and Fleming County junior Robert Applegate was fifth (18:07).

Mason County was led by freshman Connor Linville in ninth place (18:38).

Lexington Christian sophomore Kendall Hayes won the girls race (19:35), Bourbon County eighth grader Ximena Tamariz was second (21:06) and Fleming County senior Olivia Leet was third (21:49).

Eighth grader Hayden Faris led Mason County with an eighth place finish (23:40).

Bracken Co. Boys 10th, Mason Co. Girls 13th, Mason Co. Boys 26th in XC State Meets

Bracken County finished 10th in boys Class A while Mason County took 13th place in girls Class AA and 26th in boys Class AA at the KHSAA cross country state meets today at the Kentucky Horse Park.

Bracken County was led by Jared Jefferson with a 22nd place finish in a time of 17:11.48 and Jacob Hamilton in 25th place with a time of 17:16.72.

Rheagan Sizemore was the Mason County Lady Royals' top runner with a 33rd place finish in a time of 20:50.09.

The Mason County boys were led by Tanner Kirkland who finished in 129th place in a time of 18:44.34.

Augusta senior Camryn Snapp was 31st (17:22.21) in the boys Class A meet, Bracken County freshman Heather Ebert was 39th (21:40.14) in the girls Class A meet, Fleming County junior Olivia Leet was 18th (20:16.92) in the girls Class AA meet and Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate was 117th (18:34.24)  in the boys Class AA meet.

Mason County Girls are Back-To-Back XC Region Champions

The Mason County girls cross country team won the Region 6 championship for the second straight year. The Lady Royals edged Russell by three points today at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

Mason County was led by junior Rheagan Sizemore with a fifth place finish in a time of 20:42.42.

Three other Mason County runners finished in the top 20: seventh grader Hayden Faris was 11th (21:42.57), sophomore Reagan Bierley was 16th (22:16.74) and freshman Abigail Dawson was 18th (22:34.47), 

Fleming County junior Olivia Leet, the region champion the last two years, finished third with a time of 20:10.50. Fleming County took fourth place. 

In the boys race, Mason County finished fourth and Fleming County seventh. Mason County was led by senior Tanner Kirkland in 14th place (18:38.33) and eighth grader Connor Linville in 19th place (18:49.94). Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate took 12th place (18:16.35).

Mason County Girls, Boyd County Boys Win Area 7 Championships

The Mason County girls and the Boyd County boys cross country teams won the Area 7 Championships today in Elliott County.

Mason County won the girls championship by six points over Montgomery County and Fleming County. Boyd County won the boys title by seven points over Russell.

Nicholas County senior Shelby Watkins won the girls race with a time of 18:23. 

Three Mason County runners finished in the top 20- junior Rheagan Sizemore 10th (20:16), freshman Abigail Dawson 16th (21:03) and seventh grader Hayden Faris 17th (21:03.80).  

Fleming County also had three runners in the top 20- junior Olivia Leet 3rd (19:13), senior Julie Perkins 14th (20:42) and senior Abby Fearin 19th (21:37).

Boyd County freshman Elijah Miller won the boys race with a time of 16:09. 

Mason County senior Tanner Kirkland was 13th (17:41) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (18:12).

Mason County Wins Buffalo Trace Conference

Mason County won the girls race and Bracken County won the boys race in the Buffalo Trace Conference cross country meet at Mason County tonight. Mason County had the lowest combined score and won the overall trophy.

Fleming County junior Olivia Leet was the girls winner, while Bracken County junior Jacob Hamilton won the boys race.

12th Mason County XC Invitational is Saturday

Mason County will host the 12^th annual Mason County Cross Country Invitational Saturday on the grounds of the Carmeuse Facility in Maysville, KY. This year’s meet is shaping up to be one of the largest ever held at the facility. Forty-six schools will be represented on Saturday hosting over 1,300 entered athletes. The day will begin at 8:30 AM with an Open 5K. The public is invited to come run the course that the high school athletes will compete on later in the day. High school races begin at 9:00 a.m. with a JV race. The girls varsity race will start at 9:30. The girls varsity field this year includes three preseason top 10 teams in "A" division- Beechwood (3), Covington Holy Cross (10) and "AA" Covington Scott (6). Currently in the power rankings there will be 11 girls ranked in the top 20 of their divisions led by Sophia Delisio of Simon Kenton who will be the favorite to win the girls' individual title. Mason County's Rheagan Sizemore should challenge for the top spot with Fleming County's Olivia Leet. The current power rankings have seven girls teams in 

 the top 10 of their divisions at this time with Simon Kenton being the favorite to repeat their 2014 performance and bring home the title. 2013 girls team champion Covington Scott should be the main challenger to Simon Kenton but Beechwood is also capable of gaining the win.
The boys varsity race will immediately follow the girls and has two pre-season top 10 teams in
"A” Beechwood (10) and “AA” Russell (6). The boys race has eight harriers ranked in the top 10 in their divisions. The early individual favorite would be Covington Scott’s Chris Stoeckel. Bishop Brossart has claimed the last 3 boys team titles and looks to make it four in a row on Saturday with three runners ranked in the top 10 in the power rankings and a current team ranking of #4. Locally, Bracken County’s boys are currently ranked #10 in “A” in the power rankings. The “AA” power ranking have Russell currently at #7 and Boyd Co just across the hill at #10.
There will be boys and girls middle school races followed by 6^th and under boys and girls with the day ending with 4^th and under boys and girls races. Admission is $5. The public is invited. 

Mason County Girls, Grant County Boys Win Mason County All-Comers Meet

The Mason County girls and the Grant County boys were the winners in the Mason County All-Comers cross country meet Tuesday night. Nicholas County junior Shelby Watkins won the girls' race.
