Adkins scores 20 points as Lady Royals win their 8th straight district championship

Hannah Adkins hit four three-pointers and scored 20 points to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 49-35 victory over the Bracken County Lady Bears in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County led 27-12 at the half. Bracken County pulled to within eight points in the third quarter at 39-31, but the Lady Royals answered with a 6-0 run.

Laci Burns chipped in 11 points for Mason County (17-9).

Bracken County (14-10) was led in scoring by Nicole Archibald with 20 points.

The 10th Region Tournament gets underway Monday night at Nicholas County.

Lady Royals and Royals advance to the Kentucky 2A

The Mason County Lady Royals and Royals both advanced to the championship games of Section 5 of the Kentucky 2A Championships with victories over Bourbon County tonight at Harrison County. 

Hannah Adkins scored a game-high 16 points and Sarah Payne added 10 points to lead the Lady Royals to a 46-31 victory over the Lady Colonels. 

The Royals made 12 three-pointers in 76-42 rout of the Colonels. Three Royals scored in double figures: Terrell Henry with a game-high 17 points, Mason Butler with 14 points and Carter McClanhan with a career-high 12 points.  

Mason County will play Harrison County in both the girls' and boys' championship games on Saturday at Harrison County.

Lady Royals top Lady Saints 62-36 for district championship

The Mason County Lady Royals defeated the St. Patrick Lady Saints 62-36 tonight at The Fieldhouse for their seventh straight 39th District championship. 

Mason County outscored St. Patrick 21-8 in the first quarter and 18-3 in the third quarter.

Rachel Payne scored a game-high 21 points for the Lady Royals. Hannah Adkins added 10 points.

The Lady Saints were led in scoring by point guard Caroline McKay with 12 points.

Lady Royals rally for a 57-52 victory over St. Henry

The Mason County Lady Royals rallied from a 14-point third quarter deficit to defeat St. Henry 57-52 tonight at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals trailed 33-19, but ended up outscoring the Crusaders 27-16 in the third quarter.

Mason County got 27 points from players off the bench and scored 28 points off St. Henry's 21 turnovers.

The Lady Royals outscored the Crusaders 24-9 from three-point range.

Victoria Brooks led Mason County in scoring with 11 points. Hannah Adkins added 10 points.

The Lady Royals play the Fleming County Lady Panthers Friday night in Flemingsburg.

Lady Royals rally to tie game, but fall to NDA 41-39

The Mason County Lady Royals rallied from a 10-point first quarter deficit to tie the game in the fourth quarter, but lost to the Notre Dame Academy Pandas 41-39 tonight in Park Hills.

The only tie was at 37-37 with 3:40 to play. 

Notre Dame hit 1-of-2 free throws to go up 38-37 with 58 seconds remaining. 

Mason County was called for an offensive foul with 13 seconds left. 

Notre Dame guard Danielle Rennekamp made the front end of the 1-and-1, then missed the bonus with 12 seconds to play. 

Mason County got the rebound, but lost the ball out of bounds. 

Rennekamp went back to the foul line and hit both ends of the 1-and-1 to give the Pandas a 41-37 lead with just eight seconds to go. 

Mason County forward Hannah Adkins hit a shot just before the buzzer, but the Lady Royals, who never led, came up two points short.

Rennekamp scored a game-high 21 points.

Victoria Brooks led the Lady Royals in scoring with 12 points. Sam Schumacher added 10 points.

Mason County hosts St. Henry Wednesday night.

Lady Royals rout Newport 65-7

The Mason County Lady Royals led 52-0 and routed the winless Newport Lady Wildcats 65-7 tonight in Newport.

Mason County led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter, 39-0 at halftime and 54-3 at the end of the third quarter.

Newport was 3-of-27 (11.1 percent) from the field and had 40 turnovers.

Sam Schumacher scored 14 points on 7-of-10 from the field. Hannah Adkins made 5-of-8 shots for 11 points.

The Lady Royals' next game is December 27 versus Oldham County in the Plan B Apparel Holiday Classic at Bourbon County.
