Mason County anglers Hunter Buttery and Carter Roark finished in 65th place and Leyton Lennox and Rayden McRoberts took 74th place in the Operation UNITE Boys'/Coed Bass Fishing State Championship on Lake Cumberland on Saturday.
Buttery and Roark caught four fish weighing six pounds and one ounce. Lennox and McRoberts reeled in two fish weighing two pounds and four ounces.
This was the first season Mason County has had a bass fishing team.
Four Mason County athletes have qualified for the state bass fishing tournament.
Leyton Lennox and Rayden McRoberts finished in fourth place and Hunter Buttery and Carter Roark took 12th place at the Region 4 Tournament on Lake Herrington on Saturday.
Lennox and McRoberts caught five fish weighing 12 pounds, eight ounces. Buttery and Roark reeled in three fish weighing seven pounds,15 ounces.
The top 16 boats qualified for the 2025 Operation UNITE/KHSAA State Bass Fishing Championship May 8-10 on Lake Cumberland.
This is the first season for bass fishing at Mason County. The Royals are coached by Steven Truesdell.
