Royals rout Panthers

Braylon Hamilton had 26 points, nine rebounds and four assists and Landon Scilley had 25 points, six rebounds and three assists as the Mason County Royals routed the Augusta Panthers 88-56 on Tuesday night in the semifinals of the 39th District Tournament at Bracken County.

Mason County (19-11) set the tone with its man-to-man defense limiting Augusta (20-10) to 14 points in the first half on 26.3 percent shooting from the field.

There was one tie and four lead changes in the first quarter. The Royals outscored the Panthers 20-5 in the second quarter to lead 32-14 at halftime then scored 11 straight points to open the third quarter for a 43-14 lead.

The biggest lead was 72-33 with 6:54 left in the game.

Braeden Myrick made four 3-pointers and added 16 points for the Royals. Hamilton was 9-of-17 from the field, 6-of-11 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the foul line.

Scilley was 10-of-16 from the field, 3-of-5 from beyond the arc and 2-of-2 on free throws.

Jake Feldhaus had a game-high 11 rebounds and Carter McClanahan dished out a game-high nine assists.

Conner Snapp led three Augusta players in double-figure scoring with 14 points, Kylan Hinson followed with 11 and Devante Jefferson added 10.

Mason County shot 57.9 percent from the field in the second half and 53.2 percent from the field for the game. The Royals were 14-of-30 from beyond the arc.

The Royals will play the Bracken County Polar Bears in the championship game Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Panthers beat Saints 95-36

The Augusta Panthers had a 20-0 run early in the game and led 35-7 at the end of the first quarter and 60-17 at halftime on their way to a 95-36 victory over the St. Patrick Saints in the semifinals of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. 

Augusta scored 42 points off St. Patrick's 27 turnovers.

Conner Snapp scored a game-high 22 points for the Panthers including his 1,000th career point. Kylan Hinson followed with 16 points. Will Kelsch had 12 points and LJ Conner and Chan Conner each scored 10 points. 

Amari Myrick led St. Patrick in scoring with 16 points.

Augusta (18-12) will play Mason County in the championship game on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

St. Patrick ends the season with a 2-20 record.

Royals rally for a 95-89 win over Augusta

Mason County got outplayed for the first 29 minutes of their 39th District Tournament semifinal game vs. Augusta tonight, but the Royals' full court pressure, led by Julius Booker, allowed them to hold off the upset minded Panthers.

Mason County outscored Augusta 30-18 in the fourth quarter for a 95-89 victory at The Fieldhouse.

Augusta shot 76 percent from the field in the first half, made 10-of-15 3-point shots in the game, hit 19-of-20 free throws and led by as many as 13 points.

The Royals ran their winning streak to 12 games. They move on to the district championship game Thursday night before playing in the 10th Region Tournament next week.

Mason County guard Nate Mitchell scored a game-high 31 points and dished out 10 assists. Terrell Henry scored 23 points, AP Perry tossed in 16 points and Evan Schumacher came in off the bench and scored 11 points.

Augusta was led in scoring by Kason Hinson with 25 points. Riley Mastin scored 21 points, Conner Snapp followed with 17 points and Chase Archibald added 15 points.
