Jackson Frame and BJ Knox win Two-Man Scramble at KSGC

Jackson Frame and BJ Knox won the Two-Man Scramble at Kenton Station Golf Course Sunday with a 36-hole total of 28-under par 112.

Frame and Knox had rounds of 53 and 59.

The teams of Mark Moore and Logan Liles, and Troy Grooms and Deron Feldhaus tied for second place at 25-under 115.

Feldhaus and Crawford added to Mason County boys' basketball coaching staff

 The Mason County boys' basketball program on Saturday announced two additions to its coaching staff: Deron Feldhaus as an assistant varsity coach and Owens Crawford as head freshman coach and an assistant varsity coach.

Feldhaus, a 1987 graduate of Mason County High School, is fifth on the Royals' all-time scoring list with 1,937 career points. He played for his father, Allen Feldhaus, who is the Royals' winningest coach. Deron was an "Unforgettable" for the University of Kentucky Wildcats.

Crawford, a 2016 graduate of Augusta High School, was the Panthers' point guard under coach Brian Kirk who is now Mason County's head coach. Crawford played college basketball at Kentucky Christian University and was a graduate assistant for Baylor University's 2021 national championship team. He was the junior varsity head coach and varsity assistant at Live Oak Classical School in Waco, Texas last season.

Fleming County Golf Association/Kenton Station 2-Man Scramble takes place July 24-25

The Fleming County Golf Association/Kenton Station 2-Man Scramble is set for July 24-25.

BJ Knox and Deron Feldhaus are the two-time defending champions.

The first round will be played on Saturday, July 24 at Fleming County Golf Association. The field will be placed into flights based on the first round scores. The final round takes place on Sunday, July 25 at Kenton Station Golf Course.

The shotgun tee times are 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

The entry fee is $80 for members and $100 for non-members. At least one golfer of the team must be a member of either Fleming County Golf Association or Kenton Station Golf Course.

Knox and Feldhaus win Kenton Station/Fleming County Two-Man Scramble for 2nd straight year

B.J. Knox and Deron Feldhaus won the Kenton Station/Fleming County Two-Man Scramble for the second straight year.

Knox and Feldhaus beat Jordan Hughes and Elijah McCarty on the fourth hole of a sudden death playoff on Sunday.

The two teams finished regulation play tied at 23-under 119.

Knox and Feldhaus shot a 13-under 57 Saturday at Kenton Station on Saturday and a 10-under 62 Sunday at Fleming County.

Hughes and McCarty shot 10-under 60 at Kenton Station and 13-under at Fleming County.

Adam Donovan and J.P. Tranbarger, and Josh Crump and Brad Smith tied for third place at 19-under 123.

52nd Firecracker is this weekend at Kenton Station Golf Course

Deron Feldhaus will try to win the Firecracker golf tournament for the fifth straight time this weekend. 

The 52nd edition of the medal play tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at Kenton Station Golf Course.

Feldhaus had a 36-hole total of 15-under 125 last year. He has won the tournament seven times.

After the first round on Saturday, the field will be divided into flights.

The Shootout is at 6 p.m. Friday.

Deron Feldhaus and Troy Grooms teamed up to win the annual Two-Man Scramble at Kenton Station Golf Course.

Feldhaus and Grooms had a 36-hole score of 28-under 112. They fired a 55 Saturday and a 57 today.

There was a three-day tie for second place. Logan McIntosh/Brad Carper, Jordan Hughes/Elija McCarty and Nick Boggess/Darrell Weaver all shot 116s.

There was a tie for first place in the First Flight between Jordan McCann/A.J. Hamilton and Jesse McHugh/Chris Ginter at 124.

Deron Feldhaus and Jackson Frame teamed up to win the Kenton Station/Fleming County 2-Man Scramble.

Feldhaus and Frame shot an 11-under 61 today at Fleming County after firing a 15-under 55 Saturday at Kenton Station for a two-day total of 26-under 116.

Jordan McCann and Jake O'Mara finished in second place at 23-under.

B.J. Knox and Josh Stafford, who began the day two-shots behind Feldhaus and Frame, finished in third place at 21-under.

A Firecracker four-peat for Feldhaus

Deron Feldhaus fired an eight-under 62 today and won the Firecracker golf tournament at Kenton Station Golf Course for the fourth straight year and the seventh time overall.

Feldhaus had a 36-hole total of 15-under 125.

Logan McIntosh finished second at 128 and Jackson Frame took third place at 129.

Feldhaus began the day two shots off the lead. He said the turnaround was on No. 11 when he hit his tee shot out of bounds and still parred the hole. He hit his third shot on the green and made a 25-foot putt.

He played the final five holes in five-under.

"The name of the game is putting and I made a lot of putts in two days," Feldhaus said.

The seven-time champion continues to hold off the young golfers.

"I keep on trying, man," Feldhaus said. "I play with these guys, and how far they hit it, or whatever, I know my time-it's getting ready to come to an end; I'm enjoying this moment, to be able to compete with 'em."

Feldhaus said his dad, Allen, who died last year, would have been proud of his win.

"He never wanted to go out there and watch me play, but he knew how I stood," Feldhaus said. "so, he knew how I stood coming into 18 (today)."

Bobby Kearney had a hole-in-one on No. 17. It's his second ace of the year at Kenton Station. He had a hole-in-one on No. 3 last month in the Two-Man scramble.

Legendary Mason County coach Allen Feldhaus died this morning

Legendary Mason County boys' basketball coach Allen Feldhaus Sr. died this morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 77.

Feldhaus was a basketball, baseball and football star at Boone County High School.

He played basketball for Adolph Rupp at the University of Kentucky. He was a catcher on the UK baseball team and played minor league baseball in the Washington Senators farm system.

Feldhaus' first coaching job was at Russell County. He was hired as Mason County's coach in 1975.

Feldhaus guided the Royals to their first 10th Region championship in 1981. That team was the state runner-up.

The 1981-82 team won its first 31 games before losing to Virgie in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament.

Feldhaus also guided the Royals to 10th Region championships in 1985 and 1987.

In 16 seasons at Mason County, Feldhaus compiled a 325-136 record. His teams won nine district titles. He is the winningest coach at Mason County.

Feldhaus coached the 1982 Kentucky All-Star team in the annual series with the Indiana All-Stars.

He was twice named the Courier-Journal Kentucky Coach of the Year and won the Kentucky Post Coach of the Year two times.

Feldhaus picked up his 500th career victory in 1990.

He also coached baseball and served as athletic director at Mason County.

Feldhaus coached his three sons at Mason County. All three played in the state tournament. Allen Jr. is the head coach at Madison Central. He guided the Indians to the 2013 state championship. Willie is the head coach at Male. Deron played at UK and he is one of the "Unforgettables."

Feldhaus owned Kenton Station Golf Course with his wife, Lee Anne, and his youngest son, Deron.

I had the pleasure of having Coach Feldhaus as a teacher his first year at Mason County. Then, when I was starting my play-by-play career, I was blessed to call Mason County's games during those fantastic seasons in the 1980s. Coach Feldhaus could not have been nicer to me. It was an honor to work with a legend.

Troy Grooms wins Laurel Oaks Classic

Troy Grooms shot a three-under 69 today and won the Laurel Oaks Classic by two shots.

Grooms had a two-day total of eight-under 136.

Jackson Frame, Deron Feldhaus and Tyler Lippert tied for second place with 138s.

Grooms began the day four shots off the lead. He was two shots behind Frame and one back of first round leader and three-time champion Mark Moore at the turn today.

Bogeys by Frame and Moore on No. 10 left Frame with a one-shot lead over Moore and Grooms.

The lead changed hands on the par 3 16th with a birdie by Grooms and a bogey by Frame. Grooms took a two-shot lead with a birdie on No. 17. Grooms and Frame both parred No. 18.

Moore, who fired a 63 on Saturday, shot a 40 on the back side today and finished five shots back.

It's Grooms' first Laurel Oaks Classic title.

"Very exciting, very happy right now," Grooms said.

A three-peat in the Firecracker for Deron Feldhaus

The 50th Firecracker tournament at Kenton Station Golf Course ended with a three-peat and a sixth win overall for Deron Feldhaus.

Feldhaus began the day with a three-shot lead and fired a 7-under 63 for a 2-day total of 17-under 123 to beat Matthew Grayson by two shots.

Feldhaus and Grayson were tied for the lead at the turn after Grayson fired a 29 on the front side.

On the back nine, Feldhaus shot a 31 with four birdies, while Grayson had a 33.

Feldhaus said it was "pretty exciting" to win the tournament for the third straight time, but added "it was a struggle; Matthew put the heat on me."

Feldhaus said when he missed a two-foot putt on No. 8 for only his second bogey of the tournament it got his mind set "where I really needed to focus and get things done."

Brett Metzger finished third at 128.

Tyler Lippert and Bobby Kearney tied for fourth place at 129.

Deron Feldhaus, the back-to-back defending champion and five-time champion overall, fired a 10-under 60 today in the first round of the 50th Firecracker tournament at Kenton Station Golf Course.

Feldhaus birdied the first six holes and shot a 28 on the front side.

Matthew Grayson and Brett Metzger are tied for second, three shots back.

Randy Ross is in fourth place at six-under 64.

The second round will be played Sunday.

Deron Feldhaus back-to-back winner of Firecracker

Deron Feldhaus won the Firecracker golf tournament for the second straight year and the fifth time overall today at Kenton Station Golf Course.

Feldhaus, who began the day with a one-shot lead, fired a six-under 64 today for a 36-hole total of 126.

Logan McIntosh was second at 130 and Brady South was third at 131.

Three was a three-way tie in the first flight between Bill O'Mara, Brad Carper and Chandler Clark at 137.

Bo McVey and Jeff Johnston tied in the second flight at 143.

Firecracker golf tournament this weekend at Kenton Station

The 49th Firecracker golf tournament will be played Saturday and Sunday at Kenton Station Golf Course. Deron Feldhaus is the defending champion of the 36-hole medal play tournament. The Firecracker Shootout is Friday evening.

Izzy Grayson and Jordan Grayson Share Title at Gorman Invitational

It was a father and son tie between Izzy Grayson and Jordan Grayson in the Gorman Invitational at Fleming County Golf Association Sunday. Regulation play ended with a five-way tie- the Graysons along with Dave Frittes, Deron Feldhaus and Mark Moore- at eight-under 136. Frittes, Feldhaus and Moore were eliminated on the first hole of a sudden death playoff. Izzy and Jordan were still tied after the second playoff hole, and due to darkness, they decided to share the title. Izzy began the day with a two-shot lead over Jordan after firing a nine-under 63 in the first round Saturday.

Deron Feldhaus and Allen Feldhaus Junior Win Kenton Station/Fleming Co. 2-Man Scramble in Playoff

Deron Feldhaus chipped in for an eagle on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to give him and his brother, Allen Feldhaus Jr., a win over Rex Schalch and Mark Moore in the Kenton Station/Fleming County 2-Man Scramble today at Fleming County Golf Association. Both teams finished regulation play at 19-under 123. Schalch and Moore fired a 12-under 60 (with a 28 on the front nine) today. The Feldhaus brothers shot a 12-under 58 Saturday at Kenton Station Golf Course. Marvin Schalch and Bill O'Mara finished third at 124.

Deron Feldhaus Wins Firecracker by One Shot

Deron Feldhaus won the Firecracker golf tournament at Kenton Station Golf Course by one shot over Ben Hensley and Don Pollard today. Feldhaus shot a six-under par 64 for the second straight day. Hensley, who began the final round one shot behind Feldhaus and two behind Pollard, fired a five-under 30 on the front nine Sunday to take a one shot lead over Feldhaus and a two-shot lead over Pollard, Feldhaus birdied No. 11 and No. 12 to grab the lead. Hensley gained a share of the lead with a birdie on No. 14. Feldhaus regained the lead with a birdie on No. 16. Pollard also birdied No. 16 to move into a tie for second place. Feldhaus, Hensley and Pollard parred the final two holes. It's Feldhaus' fourth Firecracker title. He also won in 1999, 2002 and 2006. Mike Noel had a hole-in-one on No. 17 Saturday. Deron Feldhaus shot a five-under-par 67 today at Laurel Oaks Golf Club and won the Laurel Oaks Classic by three shots. Feldhaus began the day tied for the lead with Troy Grooms after they shot six-under 66s on Saturday. Feldhaus and Don Pollard were tied for the lead at the turn today, but Feldhaus fired a 31 on the back nine to win the tournament for the third time. He also won in 1999 and 2000. Feldhaus had a two-day total of 11-under 133. Pollard had a 136. Cousins Izzy Grayson and Matthew Grayson tied for third at 137.
