Lex Turner will be the head coach of the St. Patrick Saints next season

Lex Turner will be the head coach of the St. Patrick boys' basketball team next season after serving with Chris Bauer as interim coach during the latter part of the 2024-25 season.

Turner was the Saints' head coach for twenty-eight seasons before retiring in 2004. His teams won 365 games, two district championships and two All "A" 10th Region championships.

Tony Moore had been the Saints' head coach since the 2020-21 season but was unable to coach last season due to health issues.

St. Patrick athletic director Angie Brant said "it was in the best interest of the program to move in a new direction."

Turner coached the Saints in summer basketball last month.

Moore has joined the Terry King's coaching staff at Bracken County. He says he will be the head coach of the freshman team.

Evan Bothman is the new volleyball coach at St. Patrick

Ms. Evan Bothman is the new volleyball coach at St. Patrick. 

Bothman, a St. Patrick graduate and a counselor at the school, succeeds Chuck Hamilton who resigned last month after seven seasons as the Lady Saints' head coach. 

Phillip Hay was hired as the assistant coach. He takes over for Angie Brant who also stepped down last month but continues to serve as the athletic director.

Another St. Patrick graduate, Caitlyn Gallenstein, will provide supporting help for the volleyball team.

With no seniors and just two juniors on the team last year, the Lady Saints had a 20-3 record, won their district championship and won a game in the regional tournament for the first time in the history of the program. The junior varsity team had a 15-1 record.

St. Patrick opens the 2021 season on August 17 at home against Newport.

St. Patrick volleyball coach Chuck Hamilton resigns

St. Patrick volleyball coach Chuck Hamilton has resigned after seven seasons.

Here is what Hamilton wrote in a Facebook post today: "For a number of reasons, Angie [Brant] and I have officially resigned as the volleyball coaches at St. Patrick. We are proud of what the team accomplished last season, with the varsity compiling a 20-3 record and Angie leading the JV squad to a 15-1 mark. I can't thank Angie enough for all of her hard work and the long hours she puts in at St. Patrick! I cannot name them all, but we would also like to thank a lot of people for their support. The young ladies were the ones who did this on the court, and they deserve the praise that goes with that, not me. It was a challenge at times; after going 28-77 the first four years, the team put together a 52-28 record over the last three seasons. But it's time to go."

Last season, Hamilton guided the Lady Saints to their first district championship and their first victory in a 10th Region Tournament match.

Brant will continue to serve as athletic director at St. Patrick.

16th Region comes through for St. Patrick soccer, games rescheduled

When the 16th Region announced last week that it would no longer supply officials for St. Patrick's home soccer games it looked like the Saints and Lady Saints would spend the rest of  the season on the road.

But 16th Region Assigning Secretary Jeff Kepler emailed St. Patrick Athletic Director Angie Brant Sunday night saying he was willing to work with her to finish the season. 

St. Patrick will host West Carter for a girls and boys doubleheader Saturday on Senior Day.

The Saints will host Holmes on September 24th and Clark County on October 3rd.

Brant said she is waiting on Sayre for a makeup date for the boys' game, and she hopes to add one more girls' game.

Brant said St. Patrick originally had most of its games scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays- the busiest days for scheduling officials. 

Moving the rescheduled games to other days of the week allowed the 16th Region to assign officials for St. Patrick's home games.

Brant said it's already been settled that St. Patrick will get 10th Region officials for its home games next season. 

St. Patrick and KHSAA searching for officials after 16th Region quits assigning officials for St. Patrick home games

St. Patrick Athletic Director Angie Brant and the KHSAA are looking for officials to call St. Patrick home soccer games after the 16th Region decided to quit assigning officials for the Lady Saints' and Saints' home games.

Brant received an email from 16th Region Assigning Secretary Jeff Kepler Wednesday that said "the policy board for the 16th Region have instructed me to pull all referees assigned to future St. Patrick's home games to make sure I have 3 man referee teams at all 16th region schools if possible.   I regretfully have to advise you that I can no longer assign referees for your home games."

Brant said St. Patrick had to cancel the boys' home game against Clark County at Wald Park last night because officials had been assigned to another game.

"Wald Park is upset, parents are upset and I'm upset," Brant said.

This is the first season St. Patrick home games have been played at Wald Park.

Brant said KHSAA assistant commissioner Butch Cope is working to get 10th Region officials assigned to St. Patrick home games. She says St. Patrick might have to rearrange its schedules.

Brant said Cope assured her that, due to the issue with the officials, St. Patrick will be able to play in the district tournament even if they don't play the minimum 10 regular season games required by KHSAA rules.
