Clark Co. upsets No. 1 Campbell Co., Scott edges Mason Co. in double overtime in girls semis

The Clark County Lady Cardinals upset top ranked Campbell County 51-48 and the Scott Lady Eagles edged the Mason County Lady Royals 65-63 in double overtime tonight in the semifinals of the Girls 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County used a 9-0 run to take a 52-48 lead with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter, but Scott answered with a 4-0 run to force overtime.

Scott missed a shot at the end of the first overtime.

The Lady Royals led 61-59 in the second overtime, but the Lady Eagles again scored four straight points to regain the lead. 

After Mason County junior Victoria Brooks tied the game at 63-63, Scott senior Anna Clephane made one of two free throws with 18 seconds remaining and hit one of two free throws with 5.9 seconds left. 

AJ Reed's desperation shot just inside the midcourt stripe was short as the buzzer sounded.

Victoria Brooks led the Lady Royals in scoring with 21 points.

Reed scored 17 points, Kara Moran followed with 12 points and Haley White added 11 points.

Reed and Moran were named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the first game, Clark County jumped out to a 9-0 lead and was up by as many as 15 points in the second quarter.

The Lady Camels rallied to tie the game 38-38 in the fourth quarter.

Clark County went up by five at 48-43 with 1:30 to go.

Campbell County got to within one point at 49-48 with 5.8 seconds left.

Kennedy Igo sank two free throws to make it 51-48 with 3.6 seconds to go.

Taylor Clos missed a long three-pointer at the buzzer.

Clos scored a game-high 25 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team along with her teammate, Lexi Stapleton.

Clark County and Scott will meet in the championship game Saturday at 7 p.m.

Clark Co. and Campbell Co. win lopsided games in Girls 10th Region Tournament

The Girls 10th Region Tournament got underway tonight at The Fieldhouse with lopsided wins by the Clark County Lady Cardinals and the Campbell County Lady Camels.

Clark County defeated the Nicholas County Lady Jackets 69-36 and Campbell County routed the Bracken County Lady Bears 98-20.

Haley Harrison scored 19 points to lead Clark County to its 25th win.

Lexie Stapleton scored 26 points and Taylor Clos followed with 25 points to lead Campbell County to its 29th victory. 

Campbell County led 39-2 at the end of the first quarter and 71-12 at the half.

The Lady Camels scored 43 points off the Lady Bears' 23 turnovers.

Nicholas County junior Shelby Stafford and Bracken County senior Kinley Ruf were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Clark County and Campbell County will meet in the upper bracket semifinal Friday at 6 p.m.

Lady Royals beat Campbell Co. 51-47, face Clark Co. in championship game

After trailing for most of the first three quarters, the Mason County Lady Royals used a 20-4 run to defeat the Campbell County Lady Camels 51-47 in the 10th Region Tournament semifinals tonight at Harrison County.

Mason County will play Clark County in the championship game Saturday night at 7 o'clock.

Campbell County led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter, 24-22 at the half and 33-29 with 2:12 remaining in the third quarter.

Whitney O'Mara started the 20-4 run with a putback. A.J. Reed hit a three-pointer and Briana McNutt had an old fashioned three-point play to give the Lady Royals a 37-33 lead with 12 seconds left in the third quarter.

Alexis Keeton hit a shot for Campbell County with six-tenths of a second left in the third quarter.

Jordan Frodge opened the fourth quarter with a three-pointer.

After Keeton scored again, the Lady Royals reeled off nine straight points on a basket by Frodge, a floater by O'Mara, a Frodge three-pointer and basket by McNutt to lead 49-37 with 3:49 to play.

Makenzie Schwarber scored five straight points for Campbell County to cut the Lady Royals' lead to seven.

Reed scored Mason County's final basket with 2:13 to play.

Taylor Clos scored to cut the lead back down to seven with 1:58 remaining.

Chloe Seckman banked in a three-pointer for the final basket of the game with eight seconds left.

Mason County committed a turnover, but the Lady Camels passed the ball around before missing a 30-footer at the buzzer.

The Lady Royals shot 60 percent from the field in the second half and 51.3 percent for the game.

Mason County outrebounded Campbell County 34-25.

O'Mara led Mason County in scoring with 16 points.

McNutt added 11 points.

Clos led Campbell County with 17 points.

Schwarber tossed in 12 points.

Clark County defeated Nicholas County 71-41 in the upper bracket semifinal.

The Lady Cardinals outscored the Lady Jackets 21-6 in the second quarter.

Mason County beat Clark County 54-51 in Winchester on January 25.
