A total of six Mason County school records broken at state meet

Mason County track athletes broke four more school records at the KTCCCA Class AA Indoor State Championships on Saturday in addition to the two broken by AJ Barrett and Lexi Young.

Mason County coach Mark Kackler said the previously unreported new records include:

• Paige Decker, 800 meters, (2:29.00)
• Layla Henderson, 1500 meters, (5.09.48) and 3000 meters (10:54.30)
• The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Henderson, Decker, Alyssa Bisotti and Elizabeth Lavinder.

Barrett cleared 13-06.00, breaking his own school record and to winning pole vault state championship. 

Young, who was the state champion high jumper, finished third in the long jump, breaking her own school record with a jump of 16-07.75.

Decker, Bisotti and Henderson named to KTCCCA Class AA Girls' All-State XC Team

Mason County runners Paige Decker, Alyssa Bisotti and Layla Henderson were named to the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Class AA Girls' All-State Cross Country Team.

Those three led the Lady Royals to a fourth place finish at the state meet last week. Decker, a junior, finished in 17th place. Bisotti, a senior, finished in 21st place and Henderson, a junior, finished in 25th place.

Lady Royals 4th, Royals 25th in Class AA State Cross Country Championships

The Mason County Lady Royals took fourth place today for their fourth straight podium finish at the KHSAA Class AA State Cross Country Championship.

Lexington Catholic won the state championship with 77 points. Scott was the runner-up with 132 points, followed by Boyd County with 142 points and Mason County with 153 points.

Paige Decker led the Lady Royals with a 17th place finish in a time of 20:32.74. Alyssa Bisotti was 21st (20:51.39), Layla Henderson was 25th (21:00.79), Elizabeth Lavinder was 45th (21:35.94) and Jennifer Buttery was 63rd (22:08.71).

The Mason County Royals finished in 25th place in the boys' meet. 

Peyton Ullery was the Royals' top finisher in 101st place with a time of 19:08.38. Rounding out the top five for the Royals were Dashawn Overly (107th, 19:12.,03), Cole Wright (148th, 19:57.64), Jackson Truesdell (157th, 20:09.45) and Elijah Reed (170th, 20:21..66).

Mason County girls' and boys' XC teams qualify for state

The Mason County girls' and boys' cross country teams both qualified for the state meets with second place and fourth place finishes, respectively, in the Class AA Region 6 meets today at Boyd County.

Boyd County won both the girls' and boys' meets. The Lady Lions had 42 points. The Mason County Lady Royals had 51 points.

Three Lady Royals finished in the top 10. Layla Henderson was third (19:06.16), Paige Decker finished fifth (19:20.96) and Alyssa Bisotti had an eighth place finish (19:39.34).

The Royals edged Rowan County by one point for the final berth in the state meet.

Mason County was led by two freshmen: Dashauwn Overly in 17th place (18:18.78) and Elijah Reed in 18th place (18:21.95).

The KHSAA Class AA girls' and boys' state championships will take place next Friday at the Bourbon County Cross Country Course.

Boyd County sweeps Area 7 XC meets, Augusta boys runners-up, Mason County girls fourth, boys seventh

Boyd County won both the boys' and girls' varsity cross country race at the Area 7 Championships on Saturday.

Augusta was the runner-up in the boys' race. The Mason County Royals took seventh place.

The Mason County Lady Royals finished in fourth place and were led by Alyssa Bisotti (20:38.25) and Elizabeth Lavinder (28.53.29) who finished in fifth place and eighth place, respectively.

Peyton Ullery, in 21st place, was the Royals' top finisher with a time of 19.26.90.

Lady Royals XC team wins Hopewell Invitational

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team won the Hopewell Invitational today at Bourbon County Park.

The Lady Royals had a team score of 113. Class AAA Lafayette finished second with 121 points.

Mason County was led by junior Layla Henderson who finished third with a time of 19:25.6. Two other Lady Royals had top 20 finishes: Paige Decker was 12th (20:20.9) and Alyssa Bisotti was 18th (20:54.0).

The Mason County Royals finished in 17th place. 

 

Lady Royals XC team finishes 2nd in Mason County Invitational

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team finished second in the Mason County Invitational this morning.

Thirteen varsity teams with a total of 116 runners competed in the girls' meet which was won by the Lexington Catholic Lady Knights with 53 points. Mason County had 69 points and Villa Madonna was a distance third with 95 points.

Lexington Catholic freshman Caroline Beiting was the individual winner (18:57.67). Mason County junior Layla Henderson was the runner-up (19:01.85).

Two other Mason County runners had top 10 finishes. Paige Decker was 8th (20:07.56) and Elizabeth Lavinder was 10th (20:17.86). 

Alyssa Bisotti finished in 14th place (20:39.11).

Villa Madonna won the boys' meet. Augusta was 6th and Mason County 14th.

There were 20 boys varsity teams with a total of 158 runners.

Mason County girls' track and field team wins GRC Hall of Fame Classic

The Mason County girls' track and field team won the GRC Hall of Fame Classic on Saturday in Winchester.

The Lady Royals had 119.5 points. Woodford County was the runner-up with the 100.5 points.

The Mason County Royals finished in ninth place in the boys' meet.

Mason County junior Alyssa Bisotti won the girls' 3200 meter run with a time of 12:12.36. Mason County sophomore Elizabeth Lavinder was a close second with a time of 12:14.77.

Mason County senior Rachel Payne won the girls' 300 meter hurdles with a time of 48.97.

Mason County junior AJ Barrett was the runner-up in the boys' pole vault with a personal best jump of 11-06.00.

11 Mason County XC runners named to KTCCCA Academic All-State Team

Mason County cross country runners have been named to the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Academic All-State Team.
Deshawn Overly, Alyssa Bisotti, Morgan Carpenter, Alexis Decker, Paige Decker, Hayden Faris, Layla Henderson, Elizabeth Lavinder, Hadley Maher, Rachel Payne and Kendra Shoemaker met both the academic athletic requirements for the all-state recognition.

A three-peat for the Mason County Lady Royals

 The Mason County Lady Royals are the Class AA Region 6 cross country champions for the third straight year.

The Lady Royals, running on their home course this morning, had a team score of 34 points. The Boyd County Lady Lions finished second with 44 points.

Boyd County junior Sophia Newsome was the individual region champion with a time of (19:26.85). Mason County sophomore Paige Decker was second (19:36.68) and Mason County sophomore Layla Henderson was third (19:54.38). Two other Lady Royals finished in the top 10: junior Alyssa Bisotti was seventh (20:27.79) and sophomore Elizabeth Lavinder was eighth (20:29.69). 

Boyd County won the boys' region title. Boyd County junior JB Terrill won the individual championship with a time of 16:23.97. The Mason County Royals finished in fifth place and were led by senior Carson Adams with a 12th place finish (18:07.74).

The Class AA state meet will be held Friday afternoon at the Bourbon County Cross Country Course.

Henderson and the Lady Royals win again

A one-two finish by Layla Henderson and Paige Decker, and a fifth place finish by Alyssa Bisotti led the Mason County Lady Royals to a Class AA team victory at the Meet of Champions today at the Bourbon Country Cross Country Course

Henderson won the individual race with a time of 19:31.8, just ahead of Decker (19:38.9). Bisotti had a time of 20:23.0

Mason County finished fifth in the boys' standings. 

Layla Henderson and the Lady Royals win Mason County Super 7 XC meet

The beat goes on for Mason County sophomore Layla Henderson and her teammates on the Lady Royals' cross country team.

Henderson won the individual race and led the Lady Royals to the team title at the Mason County Super 7 meet on Saturday. It was the third time this season Henderson has won an individual race and it's the fourth team title for the Lady Royals. 

Henderson crossed the finish line with a time of 19:29.29. Three other Lady Royals finished in the top 10: sophomore Paige Decker was third (20:03.35), sophomore Elizabeth Lavinder was fifth (20:47.66) and junior Alyssa Bisotti was ninth (21:07.77).

Mason County finished in eighth place in the boys' race.

Henderson and Decker lead the Mason County Lady Royals XC team to another victory

Mason County sophomores Layla Henderson and Paige Decker finished 1-2 and led the Lady Royals cross country team to a victory in the team race at the Boyd County Invitational today.

Mason County junior Alyssa Bisotti finished in 10th place. 

Last week, Henderson won the Mason County Invitational and led the Lady Royals to a win in the team race. 

Mason County runs in the Rowan County Invitational next week.

Lady Royals win track and field meet

The Mason County Lady Royals won Mason County track and field meet #2 on Saturday.

Simon Kenton won the boys' meet. Mason County finished fourth and Bracken County took fifth place.

First place finishes by area athletes include:

• Mason County sophomore Alyssa Bisotti, the girls' 800 meter run.

• Bracken County senior Kaleb Darnell, the boys' 55 meter dash and the boys' long jump.

Mason County indoor track and field team set four new school records on Saturday

The Mason County indoor track and field team set four school records at the season-opening Wildcat Classic at the University of Kentucky on Saturday.

The record setters include:

• Paige Decker in the mile run (5:30.03) and the 800 meter run (2:31.40).

• Elizabeth Lavinder in the two-mile run (12:39.47).

• The girls' 4x800 meter relay team of Alyssa Bisotti, Hayden Faris, Layla Henderson and Paige Decker (10:36.98).

Decker and Bisotti named to XC All-State Team

Mason County freshman Paige Decker and Mason County sophomore Alyssa Bisotti were named the Class AA Girls Cross Country All-State Team by the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Decker and Bisotti led Mason County to a fourth place finish at the KHSAA state championships Saturday.

Five new Mason County indoor track and field records

Mason County athletes set five new school records at the University of Kentucky Wildcat Classic indoor track and field meet Saturday.

"The girls team had what I believe is the most productive single day individual performance in program history," Mason County coach Mark Kachler wrote in an email.

It was Huber's first-ever track meet.

Alyssa Bisotti also beat the old school record for the one mile run with a time of 5.49.74.

Dawson and Olivia O'Hearn both tied their indoor meet record of 9-00.00 in the pole vault.

Here are some news and notes to start your week:

• Mason County cross country runners Paige Decker and Alyssa Bisotti were named to the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association All State Team.

• Former Mason County Royals basketball coach Kelly Wells picked up his 300th career win as a collegiate head coach Sunday when the University of Pikeville Bears defeated Ohio University-Chillicothe 96-35.

• St. Patrick basketball will hold its annual Green and White Night on Friday, November 16th beginning at 6 p.m. The event includes the announcement of the recipients of the Jeff Stahl Memorial Scholarship and the Johnny Stahl Memorial Scholarship, fan participation games, recognition of all St. Patrick basketball players, the St, Patrick pep band and the varsity girls' and boys' green-white scrimmages. The concession stand will open at 5:30 p.m.

• Mason County basketball has two special recognition nights scheduled during the upcoming season. On December 21st when the Royals host the Augusta Panthers, Mason County's 1994 10th Region champion baseball team will be recognized, and on February 1st when the Royals host the Clark County Cardinals, the Mason County's 1994 10th Region basketball team will be recognized.

Decker and the Lady Royals 3rd at state XC meet

The Mason County Lady Royals finished in third place in the Class 2A cross country state meet today at the Kentucky Horse Park. It's the program's highest finish in school history.

Region champion Paige Decker, an 8th grader, led the Lady Royals with a third place finish in a time of 19:30.08.

Scott won the team title with 106 points. Highlands was the runner-up with 115 points followed by Mason County with 121 points.

Highland sophomore Maggie Schroeder won the individual championship (19:07.68) and Christian Academy freshman Addi Dewey was the runner-up (19:24.89).

Mason County freshman Alyssa Bisotti finished in 16th place (20:25.45).

Mason County finished in 29th place in the boys' race.

The Royals were led by junior Isaiah Riggs with a 53rd place finish (18:16.46).

Lexington Catholic won the boys' Class 2A state championship.

Boyd County was the runner-up.

Lady Royals win Area 7 Championship

The Mason County Lady Royals cross country team won the Area 7 Championship today at Boyd County.

Mason County's 40 points topped the nine-team girls' field. The second place team, Morgan County, had 93 points.

Eighth grader Paige Decker led Mason County with a second place finish in a time of 20:02.10.

Four other Lady Royals finished in the top 20- freshman Alyssa Bisotti 9th (21:35.28), Hayden Faris 13th (22:34.50), freshman Kylee Howe 17th (23:18.53) and 8th grader Morgan Carpenter 18th (23:21.75).

Bracken County seniors Brandon Cox and Jared Jefferson finished 1-2 in the boys' race to lead the Polar Bears to third place in the team standings.

With a time of 17:03.26, Cox edged Jefferson by just over 11 seconds.

Mason County junior Isaiah Riggs took ninth place (18:18.81) and Mason County sophomore Carson Adams finished in 14th place (18:34.70) to lead the Royals to a 7th place finish.

Boyd County won the boys' team championship.
