David Buchanan is the new head football coach at Anderson County

Former Mason County football coach David Buchanan is the new head coach at Anderson County High School in Lawrenceburg.

Buchanan was out of coaching last season after resigning as the football coach at Mercer County in January of 2022. He was the head coach at Mercer County, his alma mater, for seven seasons.

Prior to returning home to Mercer County, Buchanan was the head coach at Mason County for 19 seasons. He is the Royals' winningest coach with 150 victories.

Buchanan was the head coach at Paris before coming to Mason County.

Anderson County is a Class 5A school in District 5 with Collins, Scott County, South Oldham and Woodford County.

Former coach David Buchanan will be grand marshal of the Mason County Homecoming Parade

Former Mason County football coach David Buchanan will be the grand marshal of the Mason County Homecoming Parade on September 29.

Buchanan is Mason County winningest football coach. He had a 150-72 record in 19 seasons as the Royals' coach.

Buchanan resigned in 2015 to become the head coach at Mercer County, his alma mater. He complied a 50-32 record in seven seasons before stepping down in January.

The Homecoming Parade will begin at 6 p.m. at the corner of East Second Street and Main Street, and end at the Mason County Health Department.

David Buchanan named KFCA's Jimmie Reed Coach of the Year

Former Mason County football coach David Buchanan, now at Mercer County, is the Kentucky Football Coaches Association's Jimmie Reed Coach of the Year. 

In his sixth season as Mercer County's coach, Buchanan guided the Titans to a 7-3 record. 

Buchanan was a driving force in making sure the Kentucky high school football season was safely played during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

This is the third year the KFCA has presented the Jimmie Reed Coach of the Year award.

Earlier this month, Buchanan was named the KFCA Class 3A Coach of the Year. 

Buchanan was the coach at Mason County for 19 seasons before returning home to Mercer County in 2015.

Mason County schedules football game vs. Mercer County

 The Mason County Royals football team has found an opponent for Friday night after it's game against Frankfort was cancelled.

The Royals will travel to Harrodsburg to play Coach David Buchanan's Mercer County Titans.

Buchanan is in his sixth season at Mercer County after coaching at Mason County 19 seasons.

Mercer County was originally scheduled to play Western Hills this week, but that game has been rescheduled for October 30.

Buchanan's youngest son, Trosper, is the Mercer County quarterback. 

Mercer County is coming off a 31-28 overtime victory over Christian Academy-Louisville. The Titans opened the season with a 51-7 loss to Boyle County. Mercer County beat Taylor County, 20-14, in the second week of the season.

Mason County is off to its first 2-0 start since 2014- Buchanan's final season as the coach of the Royals.

University of Kentucky freshman and Mason County alum Sarah Fite finished in 63rd place in the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational Saturday on the Big Blue Course at University Club of Kentucky in Lexington. It was Fite's first collegiate tournament. Kentucky finished in fourth place

The girls 38th District Soccer Tournament begins Monday night with the Mason County Lady Royals playing the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats at Pendleton County at 6 p.m

High school volleyball teams close the regular season this week. The Mason County Lady Royals play at Campbell County Wednesday night and host Ripley Thursday night. The St. Patrick Lady Saints have three matches this week: Tuesday night at Robertson County, Wednesday night at Fleming County and Thursday night at home vs. Augusta.

Former Mason County football coach David Buchanan picked up his 200th career win with Mercer County's 40-8 victory over West Jessamine Friday night. Buchanan had 31 wins in four season at Paris and 150 wins in 19 seasons at Mason County. Now in his third season at Mercer County, Buchanan has guided the Titans to 19 wins.
