Three Royals soccer players receive All-Region honors

Three Mason County Royals soccer players have received All-Region honors.

Junior Keegan Taylor was named to the First Team and senior Noah Gardner and sophomore Mason Tackett were named to the Second Team.

Gardner, Crabtree and Owens receive All-Region honors

Mason County senior golfers Noah Gardner, Jaxen Crabtree and Cole Owens have received All-Region honors from the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association.

Gardner and Crabtree were named to the First Team while Owens made the Second Team.

The honors are based on points accumulated during the season. 

Gardner finished with 525 points, Crabtree tallied 360 points and Owens earned 325 points.

Owens finished third, Gardner sixth and Crabtree ninth in the 12th Region Tournament.

The Royals were the region runners-up, finished fifth in the First Round of the KHSAA state golf tournament and fifth at the Kentucky 2A Championships state tournament.

Royals shutout Pendleton County 1-0 for second straight district championship

The Mason County Royals soccer team won their second straight district championship on Thursday night by shutting out the Pendleton County Wildcats 1-0 in the 38th District finals at Pendleton County.

Talence Jarrell scored the lone goal thanks to an assist by Noah Gardner, and goalkeeper Landon Frederick had eight saves as the Royals avenged a 3-1 regular season loss to Pendleton County.

Mason County (9-8-1) and Pendleton County (9-8) both advance to the 10th Region Tournament.

Royals beat Harrison County, Saints fall to Pendleton County in district soccer tournament

Noah Gardner had a hat trick to lead the Mason County Royals to a 3-0 win over the Harrison County Thorobreds in the semifinals of the 38th District Tournament on Tuesday night at Pendleton County.

Landon Frederick assisted on one of the goals and made five goalkeeper saves.

Mason County (9-8-1) will play the Pendleton County Wildcats in the championship game on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Pendleton County shutout the St. Patrick Saints 8-0 in the other semifinal.

St. Patrick ends the season with a 2-9-2 record.

Royals fall to Ashland 5-2

The Mason County Royals soccer team had its four-match unbeaten streak snapped by a 5-2 loss to the Ashland Tomcats on Thursday night in Ashland.

Keagan Taylor scored a goal and assisted on a goal by Carter Malone. Noah Gardner had an assist on Taylor's goal.

The Royals (8-8-1) will play the Harrison County Thorobreds in the semifinals of the 38th District Tournament on Tuesday at 8 p.m. at Pendleton County.

Royals edge Bourbon County 2-1

Noah Gardner and Talence Jarrell each scored a goal off assists from Titus Caskey and Keagan Taylor, and goalkeeper Landon Frederick made 10 saves as the Mason County Royals edged the Bourbon County Colonels 2-1 on Tuesday night at Mason County.

The Royals (8-7) will close out the regular season on Thursday night vs. the Ashland Tomcats in Ashland.

Royals' season ends with a fifth place finish at the First Round of the state golf tournament

The Mason County Royals' season came to an end on Tuesday with a fifth-place finish at the First Round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac State Golf Championships at Winchester Country Club.

The Royals had a team score of 314. 

Madison Central took first place (296), Rockcastle County was second (309) and Pulaski County finished third (310). Those three teams advance to the finals at Bowling Green Country Club.

Mason County was led by Noah Gardner with a 77. Slate Brammer shot a 78, Jaxen Crabtree followed with a 79, Cole Owens carded an 80 and Lennox Hughes shot an 86.

The top four scores are used for the team score.

Royals shutout St. Patrick, played a 0-0 draw with Rowan County

The Mason County Royals soccer team shutout the St. Patrick Saints 8-0 on Saturday at Wald Park and played to a scoreless draw with the Rowan County Vikings on Monday night at Mason County.

Keagan Taylor had a hat trick and an assist in Saturday's win. Mason Tackett scored two goals, Noah Gardner and Carter Malone each scored a goal and dished out two assists and Titus Caskey added a goal.

Two Mason County goalkeepers saw action in Tuesday night's draw. Landon Frederick had nine saves and Caden Poe had three saves.

Mason County (7-7-1) will host the Bourbon County Colonels on Tuesday night.

Royals edge Calvary Christian 2-1

Noah Gardner and Mason Tackett each scored a goal and Carter Malone and Talence Jarrell each had an assist as the Mason County Royals edged the Calvary Christian Cougars 2-1 on Tuesday night at Mason County.

Goalkeeper Landon Frederick had 13 saves.

Mason County (6-7) will play the East Carter Raiders on Thursday night in Grayson.

Royals are region runners-up, will move on to the First Round of the state tournament

The Mason County Royals shot a 306 to finish as the runners-up of the Region 12 Tournament on Wednesday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course. 

The Rowan County Vikings won the region championship with a score of 305. The Lawrence County Bulldogs took third place at 307.

Only the winner and runner-up move on to the First Round of the state tournament on September 30 at Winchester Country Club.

Cole Owens led Mason County with a 73. Noah Gardner shot a 75, Jaxen Crabtree a 76, Lennox Hughes an 82 and Slate Brammer an 84.

The top four scores are used for the team total.

Lawrence County senior Reese Hughes shot a 3-under par 69 to win the individual championship.

Ben Rickey of Fleming County shot a 71 and advances to the First Round of the state tournament as an individual qualifier.

Two St. Patrick golfers played as individuals. Abi Ignacio shot a 107 and Gus Rechtin posted a 111.

Royals fall to Pendleton County 3-1

The Mason County Royals lost to the Pendleton County Wildcats 3-1 on Thursday night in Butler.

Noah Gardner scored his 10th goal of the season.

Mason County (5-6) will host the Russell Red Devils on Tuesday night.

Royals get a 3-1 road win over Harrison County

Noah Gardner scored a goal and assisted on goals scored by Carter Malone and Talence Jarrell as the Mason County Royals defeated the Harrison County Thorobreds 3-1 on Tuesday night in Cynthiana.

Mason County (5-5) will play the Pendleton County Wildcats on Thursday night in Falmouth.

Volleyball and soccer recaps

The Mason County Lady Royals volleyball team rallied to beat the Fleming County Lady Panthers 2-1 on Monday night in Flemingsburg.

Fleming County took the first set 25-16, but the Lady Royals won the next two 25-20 and 25-22.

Mason County (8-7) will host Robertson County on Tuesday night.

Halle Pfeffer had 24 digs, Hayley Allison and Kennedy Bevins each had 14 digs and Kyleigh Kirk had 19 assists.

The Mason County Lady Royals soccer team lost to the East Carter Lady Raiders 5-3 on Monday at Grayson.

Eden Abshire scored two goals, Aubrey Gross added a goal and Harley Durham-Campbell assisted on all three goals.

The Lady Royals (4-4) will host the Bourbon County Lady Colonels on Wednesday night.

The Mason County Royals soccer team fell to the Montgomery County Indians 6-2 on Monday night at home.

Noah Gardner scored a goal and had an assist on a goal by Mason Tackett.

The Royals (4-5) will travel to Cynthiana on Tuesday to play the Harrison County Thorobreds.

The St. Patrick Saints soccer team lost to the Bishop Brossart Mustangs 12-0 on Monday night in Alexandria.

The Saints picked up their first win on Saturday by shutting out the Paris Greyhounds 5-0.

The Saints (1-5) will play at Ripley this Saturday.

Royals fifth, Lady Royals eighth at Kentucky 2A Championships state golf tournament

The Mason County Royals took fifth place and the Lady Royals finished in eighth place at the Kentucky 2A Championships on Monday at Owensboro Country Club.

The Royals had a team score of 327. Louisville Christian Academy won the boys' championship with a score of 302.

The Lady Royals posted a score of 415. Franklin County won the girls' championship with a score of 341.

Noah Gardner and Jaxen Crabtree led the Royals with 81s. Cole Owens shot an 82, Slate Brammer an 83 and Lennox Hughes an 86.

Sydney Ullery led the Lady Royals with a 92.

Royals fall to Villa Madonna 2-1

The Mason County Royals soccer team lost its second straight match on Saturday, falling to the Villa Madonna Vikings 2-1 in Villa Hills.

Noah Gardner scored the Royals' goal.

Mason County (4-4) will host the Montgomery County Indians on Monday night.

Royals beat Fleming County 4-1

Noah Gardner scored two goals and Talence Jarrell and Mason Tackett each added a goal as the Mason County Royals defeated the Fleming County Panthers 4-1 on Tuesday at home.

Keagan Taylor had an assist.

Mason County (4-2) will play the Campbell County Camels in Claryville on Thursday.

Royals advance, Lady Royals lose in the Kentucky 2A Section 6 Tournament

The Mason County Royals shutout the Boyd County Lions 2-0 and the Mason County Lady Royals lost to the Boyd County Lady Lions 5-0 in the quarterfinal round of the Kentucky 2A Section 6 soccer tournaments on Tuesday night in Cannonsburg.

Mason Tackett scored a goal each half for the Royals. Keagan Taylor and Noah Gardner each had an assist. Goalkeeper Landon Frederick had 10 saves.

The Royals (3-2) advance to the semifinals to play the Fleming County Panthers on Tuesday night.

The Lady Royals (3-3) will host the Fleming County Lady Panthers on Thursday night.

Royals shoot a 324 at Harrison County Invitational

The Mason County Royals shot a 324 at the Harrison County Invitational on Sunday at Houston Oaks Golf Course in Paris.

Slate Brammer shot a 79 to lead the Royals. Jaxen Crabtree and Noah Gardner both shot 81s followed by Cole Owens with an 83 and Lennox Hughes with an 86.

Mason County will play in the 5-Star Invitational on September 1 at Picadome Golf Course in Lexington.

Royals win Region 12 Preview at Laurel Oaks

The Mason County Royals had a team score of 300 and won the Region 12 Preview on Saturday at Laurel Oaks Golf Course.

Cole Owens led the Royals with a 1-over 73 and finished second in the individual standings.

Noah Gardner tied for third place with a 74. Jaxen Crabtree shot a 75 followed by Slate Brammer with a 78 and Lennox Hughes with a 79.

The Royals will travel to Paris on Sunday for the Harrison County Invitational at Houston Oaks Golf Course.

Royals beat Georgetown, Gardner sets the school record in career assists

Noah Gardner had a goal and an assist and now holds the school record for career assists (25) as the Mason County Royals defeated the Georgetown G-Men in their home opener on Tuesday.

Jeremiah Bisotti also had a goal and an assist. Mason Tackett scored a goal and Carter Malone had an assist.

Gardner had six assists as a freshman, five as a sophomore, 12 as a junior and has two this season.

Mason County (2-1) will host the Scott Eagles on Thursday.
