Reid Jolly’s potential game-tying shot in the closing seconds was blocked by University of Louisville signee David Johnson and the Trinity Shamrocks edged the Campbell County 42-40 in the semifinals of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 tonight at Rupp Arena.
Trinity led 20-5 in the opening minute of the second quarter, but Campbell County closed the half on a 15-2 run to cut the deficit to two points.
The Camels led 29-24 with 2:05 left in the 3rd quarter, but the Shmarocks went on a 16-6 run to lead 40-35 with 1:47 left in the game
Jolly hit a three-pointer with 1:33 to go.
Drew Wilson came up with a steal with 1:19 remaining, but the Camels missed a layup and committed a turnover.
After Trinity hit 1-of-2 free throws, Jolly made a layup to cut the Shamrocks’ lead to one at 41-40.
Johnson made 1-of-2 free throws with :15 seconds left.
As Jolly drove in the lane, Trinity knocked the ball out of bounds with four seconds to play.
After a timeout, the Camels inbounded the ball to Jolly. Johnson blocked the shot into the hands a teammate and time expired.
Trinity’s last field goal was with 6:56 left in the game. The Shamrocks hit 11-of-14 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Jolly led all scorers with 17 points. Wilson added 10 points.
Johnson led Trinity with 13 points. Ethan Hodge came in off the bench and tossed in 11 points. Hodge scored the Shamrocks’ first points of the third quarter.

Campbell County advances to semis with win over Walton-Verona
The Campbell County Camels have advanced to the semifinals of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
The Camels overcame nine fourth quarter turnovers to defeat the Walton-Verona Bearcats 49-42 today in the quarterfinals at Rupp Arena.
Campbell County led by 12 points in the 2nd quarter and by 10 early in the fourth quarter, but Walton-Verona closed to within three at 43-40 with 34 seconds left in the game.
The Camels sealed the win by hitting 6-of-6 free throws.
The victory avenged a regular season loss to Walton-Verona.
Reid Jolly had another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tanner Lawrence tossed in 12 points and Drew Wilson added 10 points.
Walton-Verona 6-10 center Dieonte Miles had a double-double with 10 points and 12 blocks.
Miles also altered several shots. Campbell County shot 34.9 percent from the field.
The Camels will play the Trinity Shamrocks in the semifinals Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Campbell County repeats as 10th Region Champion, 4th title in six seasons
The Campbell County Camels rallied from an eight-point halftime deficit to beat the Clark County Cardinals 61-49 in the championship game of the 10th Region Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.
The Camels are back-to-back champions. It's their fourth title in six seasons.
Campbell County led 13-6 in the first quarter, but trailed 26-18 at the half after shooting 25 percent from the field in the first half.
The Camels opened the third quarter with an 20-4 run to lead 38-30, but the Cardinals answered by scoring the final nine points of the quarter.
Campbell County took control of the game by opening the fourth quarter with an 18-4 run and led by as many as 15 points.
For the second straight game, Campbell County senior Reid Jolly picked up two first half fouls and went to the bench. And for the second game, he took over in the second half. Jolly ended up with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 13 points. He scored 18 points in the second half.
Drew Wilson scored 15 points on five three-pointers and Tanner Lawrence added 10 points for the Camels.
Jordan Graham led Clark County in scoring with 15 points.
There were five ties and eight lead changes in the game.
Campbell County has won 16 straight games. The Camels will play 5th Region champion John Hardin (35-0) in the opening round of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Rupp Arena.

Royals lose to red hot Camels 74-51 in region semis
The Mason County Royals' season came to end with a 74-51 loss to the sharpshooting Campbell County Camels tonight in the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse.
The Camels shot 72.5 percent from the field and ran their winning streak to 15 games.
Campbell County led 34-13 in the second quarter. Mason County went on a 10-2 run to close the gap to the 13, but the Camels never cooled off and led 54-37 after three quarters and by as many as 25 points in the fourth quarter.
Campbell County was 8-of-10 from the field in the first quarter, 5-of-8 in the second quarter, 8-of-11 in the third quarter and 8-of-11 in the fourth quarter.
"Any team that is that disciplined, they go inside-out and shoot 72 percent, they're going to be a tough out," Mason County coach Brian Kirk said.
Kirk said he was very proud of how his team responded and the way it continued to battle.
The Royals finish with a 15-16 record in Kirk's first season. It's Mason County's first losing season since 1989-90.
"We knew it was going to be a process, it's definitely going to take some time, " Kirk said. "But I'm very proud of the way our kids handled all the changes that went into place here. I feel like we've got a good supporting cast around us, the coaching staff that I've got around myself included. I feel very confident in what we got to establish. As we look at this team, we're only losing one senior from this team. So, a bright future ahead."
The one senior, Jaylen Lofton, led Mason County in scoring with 16 points. Xylon Frey added 14 points.
Drew Wilson scored 24 points for Campbell County. Reid Jolly followed with 18 points and Jordan Gross added 13 points.
The Camels are headed to the championship game for the third straight year.

Reid Jolly scores 33 points to lead Campbell County past Robertson County 74-55
Reid Jolly, the 10th Region Coaches Association Player of the Year, scored 33 points to lead the Campbell County Camels to a 74-55 victory over the Robertson County Black Devils in the opening game of the 10th Region Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.
The game was tied 23-23, but Campbell County pulled away by ending the first half on a 19-2 run.
The Camels led by as many as 21 points in the third quarter.
Campbell County shot 53.4 percent from the field and scored 18 points off Robertson County's 17 turnovers.
Drew Wilson scored 17 points for the Camels who ran their winning streak to 14 games.
Alex Schlach led Robertson County in scoring with 21 points. Justin Becker added 12 points.

Campbell County too strong for Mason County
Mason County stayed with Campbell County for a quarter, but the Royals were outscored 22-4 in the second quarter and 20-6 in the third quarter of a 77-43 loss to the Camels tonight at Campbell County.
The Camels pulled away after leading 20-19 at the end of the first quarter.
The final nine minutes of the game were played with a running clock after Campbell County led 62-27.
The Camels shot 60.7 percent from the field in the first half and 55.2% for the game.
Mason County shot 32.7 percent from the field including 25.9 percent in the second half.
The Camels outrebounded the Royals 38-24.
Mason County had a season-low four turnovers.
Reid Jolly made 9-of-10 shots from the field and scored a game-high 19 points for Campbell County. Drew Wilson tossed in 18 points and Tanner Lawrence added 10 points.
Jeremiah Jones led Mason County in scoring with nine points.

Camels lose in state quarterinals
The Campbell County Camels appeared to be well on their way to the semifinals of the 101st Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys' Sweet Sixteen when they built an 11-point lead in the third quarter Friday night, but Oldham County senior Travis Henderson swished a corner three-pointer with 1.9 seconds to play to give the Colonels a 56-55 quarterfinal round victory over the Camels.
Campbell County led 28-23 at halftime and 42-31 with 54 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
Oldham County rallied to tie the score at 53-53 with 44 seconds left in the game.
The Camels regained the lead on Joel Day's jumper with 29 seconds remaining.
After the Colonels took a timeout with 8.8 seconds to go, Jackson Gibson fed a pass to Henderson in the left corner and Henderson hit the game-winner. It was just the second lead change of the game.
Afer a Campbell County timeout, Tanner Clos missed a half-court heave as the buzzer sounded.
Campbell County had nine turnovers in the second half and was 7-of-15 from the free throw line in the game.
Campbell County coach Aric Russell said the free throw shooting was the biggest backbreaker for his team.
The loss snapped Campbell's County's nine-game winning streak and is just the sixth loss of the season for the Camels.
Drew Wilson led Campbell County in scoring with 16 points.
Reid Jolly had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Tanner Lawrence added 10 points and six rebounds.
Day had five points and six assists and was named to the All-Tournament Team.

Campbell Co. tops UHA for first victory in state tournament
It's Campbell County's first-ever win in the state tournament.
UHA led 29-22 with 5:10 to play in the second quarter, but the Camels ended the half with a 11-2 run to lead 33-31 at intermission.
Campbell County opened the third quarter with a 6-0 and led 61-47 at the end of the quarter.
UHA closed to within 71-63 with 2:28 left in the game, but the Camels answered with seven straight points.
Joel Day led Campbell County in scoring with 23 points. He also had seven assists and six rebounds.
Tanner Clos had a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. He dished out five assists.
Reid Jolly scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
Drew Wilson added 11 points.
Campbell County advances to the quarterfinals and will play Friday at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of tonight's game between Oldham County and McCracken County.

Campbell Co. tops Scott 68-62 for 10th Region title
Reid Jolly scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the Campbell County Camels to a 68-62 victory over the Scott Eagles tonight in the championship game of the 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse.
It's Campbell County's third region title in five seasons.
The Camels led 32-21 with 3:20 left in the second quarter, but Scott pulled to within two at 34-32 at the end of the half and led 46-45 at the end of the third quarter.
Campbell County scored the first four points of the fourth quarter and had the lead the rest of the game.
The Camels were up 65-56 with 38 seconds remaining after Nate Schaefer hit two free throws, but Scott guard Nelson Perrin made two three-pointers to make it interesting.
Perrin's second trey cut Campbell County's lead to four at 66-62 with 18 seconds to play, and the Camels committed a turnover trying to inbound the ball against the Eagles'press.
But Perrin was called for traveling while attempting to shoot another three-pointer.
Campbell County point guard Joel Day sank two free throws to seal the victory.
The Camels outshot the Eagles 54.8 percent to 45.3 percent and won the rebounding battle 33-20.
Tanner Clos scored 13 points including his 1,000th career point for Campbell County.
Day and Drew Wilson scored 11 points apiece.
Perrin led Scott in scoring with 19 points.
Trey Meister tossed in 16 points and Chad Ohmer added 14 points.
Jolly, Day, Clos, Wilson, Perrin, Meister and Ohmer were named to the All Tournament Team.
Campbell County will play 2nd Region champion University Heights Academy in the first round of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 at noon on Thursday, March 15 at Rupp Arena.

Campbell Co, and Scott win in the semis, will meet in the championship game
The Campbell County Camels and the Scott Eagles will meet in the championship of the 10th Region Tournament for the second straight year.
In tonight's semifinals at The Fieldhouse, Campbell County blew a 16-point lead and trailed by three in the final minute of the fourth quarter, but pulled out a 76-71 victory over the Clark County Cardinals in overtime, and Scott outscored Paris 17-2 in the fourth quarter for a 46 -43 win over the Greyhounds.
Campbell County led 40-24 in the second quarter and was up 40-29 at the half, but Clark County rallied and took a 63-60 lead on an old fashioned three-point play by Will Philpot with 2:01 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Reid Jolly tied the game with a trey with 30 seconds to play.
The Cardinals played for the last shot and missed a three-pointer.
The Camels scored the first six points in overtime.
Clark County closed to within three points when Brennan Canada banked in a three-pointer with 1:20 to go.
Campbell County point guard Joel Day sank 2-of-3 free throws in a span of 13 seconds give the Camels a 74-68 lead with one minute to play.
After Clark County guard Chase Taylor drained a three-pointer with 20 seconds remaining, Day sealed the victory with two free throws with 15.9 seconds left.
Day scored a game-high 31 points. He hit four three-pointers and made 13-of-15 free throws, including 9-of-11 in overtime.
Jolly scored 17 points and Drew Wilson added 12 points.
Jordan Graham led Clark County in scoring with 24 points.
Philpot had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. He fouled out with 3:57 left in overtime.
Canada had a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Taylor added 10 points.
Graham and Philpot were named to the All-Tournament Team,
In the second game, Paris led 41-29 at the end of the third quarter, but Scott opened the fourth quarter on a 13-0 run.
The Greyhounds did not have a field goal in the fourth quarter. Their only points in the quarter were two free throws made by Jalen Byars to give Paris its final lead at 43-42 with 1:58 to play.
The Eagles regained the lead on a basket by Nathan Joyce with 1:35 remaining.
Scott junior guard Kyren Simpson sank two free throws with 21 seconds left to give the Eagles a 46-43 lead.
Paris missed two three-point shots in the closing seconds.
The Greyhounds were 0-of-9 from the field and 2-of-7 on free throws in the fourth quarter.
The Eagles hit 9-of-12 shots from beyond the arc in the game
Nelson Perrin was 4-of-4 on three-point shots and had a game-high 13 points for Scott.
Simpson made three treys and scored 11 points.
Eric Johnson led Paris in scoring with 11 points.
Byars had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds,
Travis Strings tossed in 10 points.
Johnson and Byars were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Campbell County beat Scott 84-73 in the regular season and 58-57 in the championship game of the 37th District.
The Eagles edged the Camels 78-77 on Jake Ohmer's three-pointer at the buzzer in the 10th Region Tournament championship game last year.

Camels top Royals 77-68
The Campbell County Camels scored the final six points of the game to seal a 77-68 victory over the Mason County Royals tonight at The Fieldhouse.
There were five ties and nine lead changes in the game.
Campbell County led by eight points in the second quarter.
Mason County was up 56-50 in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, but Campbell County went on a 17-4 run to lead 67-60 with just under five minutes to play.
The Royals closed to within 71-68 with 1:19 left, but the Camels hit 6 of 6 free throws in the final minute to record their 13th victory.
With Campbell County's leading scorer on the season- Reid Jolly- sidelined with an injury and an illness, senior guard Tanner Clos stepped up and scored a game-high 29 points.
Joel Day and Drew Wilson scored 12 points apiece.
Nate Schafer, who was averaging 1.8 points a game, scored all 11 of his points in the fourth quarter. He hit three three-pointers.
Mason County only played six players. Freshman guard Jeremiah Jones was out sick.
Leevi Dunaway also was under the weather, but he scored a team-high 19 points.
Jayden Steward scored 18 points, Jaylen Lofton had a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, and Dalton Perkins followed with 10 points.
Mason County plays Holmes in Covington Saturday.
