The Campbell County Camels have advanced to the semifinals of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.
The Camels overcame nine fourth quarter turnovers to defeat the Walton-Verona Bearcats 49-42 today in the quarterfinals at Rupp Arena.
Campbell County led by 12 points in the 2nd quarter and by 10 early in the fourth quarter, but Walton-Verona closed to within three at 43-40 with 34 seconds left in the game.
The Camels sealed the win by hitting 6-of-6 free throws.
The victory avenged a regular season loss to Walton-Verona.
Reid Jolly had another double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Tanner Lawrence tossed in 12 points and Drew Wilson added 10 points.
Walton-Verona 6-10 center Dieonte Miles had a double-double with 10 points and 12 blocks.
Miles also altered several shots. Campbell County shot 34.9 percent from the field.
The Camels will play the Trinity Shamrocks in the semifinals Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
