Campbell County edges John Hardin 61-60 in state tournament

Reid Jolly scored 30 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Campbell County Camels to a 61-60 victory over the previously unbeaten John Hardin Bulldogs in the opening round of the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA Boys Sweet 16 tonight at Rupp Arena.

Campbell County jumped out to an 18-6 lead, but John Hardin  closed to within a point at the end of the first half.

There were six ties and eight lead changes in the second half.

With John Hardin leading 60-59 with 25 seconds to play, Jolly stepped to the free throw line and made both shots.

The Bulldogs missed two shots in the final seconds and ended the season with a 35-1 record.

Campbell County ran its winning streak to 17 games and its record to 30-4.

Tanner Lawrence added 17 points for the Camels who will play the Walton-Verona Bearcats in the quarterfinals Friday at noon. Walton-Verona defeated Campbell County 54-48 on January 18. That was the Camels’ last loss.

Walton-Verona beat Knox Central 76-54 in the tournament opener.
