Jonathan Thomas named District 7 Coach of the Year for the second straight season

Mason County coach Jonathan Thomas has been named the Class AAAA District 7 Coach of the Year by the Kentucky Football Coaches Association for the second straight season.

Thomas guided Mason County to a 7-4 record including a 2-2 mark in district play.

The Royals lost three games in the regular season by a total of 11 points.

Scott running back Nelson Perrin is the Class AAAA District 7 Player of the Year.

Fleming County coach Bill Spencer is the Class AAA District 5 Coach of the Year and Fleming County quarterback Josh Crump is the Class AAA District 5 Player of the Year.

Spencer and Crump will receive their awards at halftime of the Class AAA state championship game between Boyle County and Corbin Friday at 7 p.m.

Thomas and Perrin will receive their awards at halftime of the Class AAAA championship game between Johnson Central and Franklin-Simpson Saturday at 4:30 p.m.

All six state championship games will be played at Kroger Field in Lexington.

Northeastern Ky East/West Senior Bowl June 12; Jackson Tolle in the first class of Bowl Hall of Fame

The Northeastern Kentucky East/West Senior Bowl, sponsored by Kentucky National Guard, will be played June 12 at 7:30 p.m. at Morehead State University. Russell Red Devils coach T.J. Maynard will coach the East team; Fleming County Panthers coach Bill Spencer will coach the West squad. Game Director Tom Posey has announced the first class of the East/West Senior Bowl Hall of Fame. It includes former Mason County standout Jackson Tolle and retired coaches Ivan McGlone of Russell and Corky Prater of Lewis County. The Hall of Famers will be introduced at halftime.
