Four Mason County football players have scholarship offers

Four Mason County football players have received scholarship offers. All four are seniors. Wide receiver/defensive back Malcolm Jones has been offered full tuition, room and board by New Mexico Institute Junior College. Wide receiver/defensive back Bradley Lang has an offer from Kentucky State University. Pikeville College has offered scholarships to wide receiver/defensive back Colt Fearis and running back/linebacker Akeem Jackson. Center Lee Sutton is being recruited by several colleges including Union and Hanover.

Royals let loose the Hog and roll past East Ridge 62-6

Josh Harris scored four touchdowns in the first half and Malcolm Jones scored a touchdown in each half as the Mason County Royals routed the East Ridge Warriors 62-6 tonight in the first round of the Class 3A football playoffs. Harris ran for three touchdowns and returned an interception for another touchdown. Jones ran for a touchdown out the Hog formation and had a touchdown reception. Harris' first TD was out of the Hog formation. (Mason County calls the Wildcat formation the Hog). Brad Lang, normally a receiver, scored a touchdown from the tailback position. It was 35-0 at the end of the first half. After Mason County went up 49-0 in the third quarter, the rest of the game was played with a running clock. East Ridge scored on a kickoff return as time expired. East Ridge quarterback Bryan Casey suffered an injury in the closing minute of the first half and missed the rest of the game. Colt Fearis, making his first start at quarterback for Mason County, completed 6-of-8 passes for 122 yards and one touchdown with an interception. Mason County (11-0) will host Pike County Central in the second round. Pike County Central defeated Fleming County 74-50.

Royals win 47-13, Pawsat injured

The Mason County Royals defeated the Greenup County Musketeers 47-13 tonight to finish up the school's first 10-0 regular season, but junior quarterback Neal Pawsat might have suffered a season-ending injury. Pawsat left the game with 10:15 to play in the first quarter, one play after taking a hit on a run. "Based on what I know at this point, I really don't think he's going to be back," Coach David Buchanan said on the post-game show. Colt Fearis took over at quarterback and rushed for 118 yards and four touchdowns. After Greenup County tied the game 7-7 in the second quarter, Mason County scored 40 unanswered points to lead 47-7. Jordan Gilbert's 87-yard run on a reverse started the scoring streak. Greenup County committed four turnovers in the first half. Mason County tailback Josh Harris rushed for 112 yards. Mason County had 384 rushing yards.The Royals host East Ridge in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs Friday night.

Mason County beats Lewis County 42-14 in district opener

The Mason County defense came up with the first touchdown and the Royals' offense continued its big play attack in a 42-14 win over the Lewis County Lions Friday night. Akeem Jackson blocked a punt and Gus Bauer fell on the football in the end zone midway through the first quarter. Neal Pawsat completed 10-of-19 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns and an interception. Josh Harris ran for 81 yards and two touchdowns and had 87 receiving yards and scored another TD on 47-yard catch. Mason County is 6-0 overall and 1-0 in the district. The Royals host Russell this coming Friday.
