Royals fall to Conner 40-8

The Conner Cougars jumped out to a 20-0 lead in the first quarter on their way to a 40-8 win over the Mason County Royals tonight.

Mason County went three and out on their first two possessions and punted from its 19 yard line both times. Conner scored on a 29-yard drive and a 45-yard drive after those punts.

Armand Jackson rushed for 123 yards and three touchdowns. Walker Buelow completed 9 of 12 passes for 154 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for a touchdown.

Mason County scored a touchdown on a one-yard run by Malkolm Walker with 1:46 left in the game. Jaylen Lofton scored on the  two-point conversion run.

Conner had 372 yards of total offense. Mason County had 158 total yards.

Conner, a Class 6A school, ran its record to 8-2.

Mason County is 4-6. The Royals play the Ashland Tomcats in Ashland next week in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.

Royals close out regular season at home vs.Conner

The Mason County Royals close out the regular season at home Friday night against the Class 6A Conner Cougars. Here are a few fast facts:
  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This week's game is the annual Think Pink Game. Mason County players who completed community service hours can wear pink.
  • Shannon Roberts, FCCLA adviser at Mason County High School, is selling Think Pink shirts in her classroom. The shirts cost $15 each. Proceeds go to the Cancer Resource Center.
  • Mason County has won two consecutive games for the first time since opening the 2014 season with six straight victories.
  • This is Mason County's fourth straight home game.
  • The Royals are 3-2 at home this season.
  • Mason County will play the Ashland Tomcats in Ashland next week in the first round of the Class 4A playoffs.
  • Conner is 7-2 with losses to Simon Kenton (39-27) and Ryle (42-28).
  • The Cougars beat Cooper 18-7 last week. Cooper entered that game averaging 39 points a game.
  • Conner quarterback Walker Buelow has passed for 1,413 yards and 14 touchdowns Conner tailback Armand Jackson has rushed for 1,006 yards and 16 touchdowns.
  • The Cougars beat the Royals 49-12 in Hebron last season in the first meeting between the two schools.
