Clark Co. upsets No. 1 Campbell Co., Scott edges Mason Co. in double overtime in girls semis

The Clark County Lady Cardinals upset top ranked Campbell County 51-48 and the Scott Lady Eagles edged the Mason County Lady Royals 65-63 in double overtime tonight in the semifinals of the Girls 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County used a 9-0 run to take a 52-48 lead with 1:52 left in the fourth quarter, but Scott answered with a 4-0 run to force overtime.

Scott missed a shot at the end of the first overtime.

The Lady Royals led 61-59 in the second overtime, but the Lady Eagles again scored four straight points to regain the lead. 

After Mason County junior Victoria Brooks tied the game at 63-63, Scott senior Anna Clephane made one of two free throws with 18 seconds remaining and hit one of two free throws with 5.9 seconds left. 

AJ Reed's desperation shot just inside the midcourt stripe was short as the buzzer sounded.

Victoria Brooks led the Lady Royals in scoring with 21 points.

Reed scored 17 points, Kara Moran followed with 12 points and Haley White added 11 points.

Reed and Moran were named to the All-Tournament Team.

In the first game, Clark County jumped out to a 9-0 lead and was up by as many as 15 points in the second quarter.

The Lady Camels rallied to tie the game 38-38 in the fourth quarter.

Clark County went up by five at 48-43 with 1:30 to go.

Campbell County got to within one point at 49-48 with 5.8 seconds left.

Kennedy Igo sank two free throws to make it 51-48 with 3.6 seconds to go.

Taylor Clos missed a long three-pointer at the buzzer.

Clos scored a game-high 25 points and was named to the All-Tournament Team along with her teammate, Lexi Stapleton.

Clark County and Scott will meet in the championship game Saturday at 7 p.m.

Lady Royals beat Paris, will face Scott in region SF

The Mason County Lady Royals ended the first quarter on an 18-0 run and scored the first three points of the second quarter on their way to a 50-32 victory over the Paris Lady Hounds tonight in the quarterfinal round of the 10th Region Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County junior Kara Moran had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. 

The Lady Royals will play the Scott Lady Eagles Friday night in the semifinals.

Scott outscored Harrison County 17-3 in the second quarter and beat the Fillies 77-44.

Scott senior Anna Clephane had a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds.

Paris senior Kiara Garrard and Harrison County junior Madison Kellione were named to the All-Tournament Team.

Garrard scored her 1,000th career point tonight.

Lady Royals rout Lady Bears for District title

The Mason County Lady Royals scored 19 straight points in the first quarter and routed the Bracken County Lady Bears 71-21 in the championship game of the 39th District Tournament tonight at The Fieldhouse.

It's the Lady Royals' fourth consecutive district title.

Mason County led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter, 43-14 at the half and 60-18 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Royals shot 52.7 percent from field for the game and scored 32 points off the Lady Bears' 28 turnovers.

Bracken County only had five field goals in the game.

Emma Taylor led Mason County in scoring with 16 points.

Victoria Brooks followed with 14 points and Kara Moran added 11 points.

Kennedy Carl was Bracken County's leading scorer with 11 points.

Both teams advance to the 10th Region Tournament next week at The Fieldhouse.

Lady Royals defeat Augusta 74-29

The Mason County Lady Royals jumped out to a 16-0 lead and scored 20 points off Augusta's 16 first quarter turnovers on their way to a 74-29 victory over the Lady Panthers tonight in the upper bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

 Mason County led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter and 52-9 at the half.

The second half was played with a running clock.

Victoria Brooks and AJ Reed led the Lady Royals in scoring with 13 points apiece.

Emma Taylor followed with 12 points and Kara Moran added 10 points.

Katie Stanton and Alexis Shields each scored 10 points for the Lady Panthers.

Lady Royals fall to Franklin County in regular season finale

The Mason County Lady Royals ended the regular season with a 55-53 loss to the Franklin County Lady Flyers tonight at The Fieldhouse.

There were eight ties and 10 lead changes.

Mason County led by as many as nine points in the second quarter.

Franklin County trimmed the deficit to six at the half and outscored Mason County 16-7 in the third quarter to lead 45-42.

The Lady Royals used an 11-6 run to lead 53-51, but the Lady Flyers scored the final four points.

Kara Moran led Mason County in scoring with 12 points.

AJ Reed followed with 11 points and Victoria Brooks tossed in 10 points.

Lady Royals rout Bourbon County

The Mason County Lady Royals jumped out to a 16-0 lead and had a 21-0 in the third quarter on their way to a 72-29 victory over the Bourbon County Lady Colonels tonight in Paris.

The Lady Royals shot 58.8 percent from the field, had 23 assists, 20 steals and scored 32 points off Bourbon County's 26 turnovers.

Emma Taylor scored a career-high 20 points.

Kara Moran followed with 15 points and AJ Reed added 13 points.

Lady Royals' winning streak snapped by loss to Simon Kenton

The Mason County Lady Royals' season-high five-game winning streak was snapped by a 63-50 loss to the Simon Kenton Lady Pioneers this afternoon at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter, but was outscored 21-9 in the second quarter and 17-10 in the third quarter.

Simon Kenton's biggest lead was 18 points at 51-33 in the fourth quarter.

Three Lady Royals scored in double figures with Victoria Brooks leading the way with 13 points. She was 5-of-6 from the field.

AJ Reed and Kara Moran followed with 10 points apiece.

The Lady Royals travel to Paris Tuesday night to play the Bourbon County Lady Colonels.

Mason Co. and Harrison County split a girls and boys doubleheader

Mason County and Harrison County split a girls and boys doubleheader tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Victoria Brooks scored 15 points and Kara Moran added 11 points to lead the Mason County Lady Royals to a 50-43 victory over the Fillies. It's Mason County's fifth straight win.

In the boys game, The Thorobreds scored the final nine points of the game to defeat the Royals 61-57.

The Royals led 53-46 with 4:50 to play and 57-52 with 2:45 remaining.

Jaylen Lofton had a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

Leevi Dunaway followed with 16 points and Malkolm Devine added 14 points.

All four teams shot poorly. The Lady Royals and Fillies both were 14-of-42 (33.3 percent) from the field.

The Thorobreds were 20-of-55 (36.4 percent), while the Royals were 19-of-56 (33.9 percent).

The Thorobreds, after going 0-of-11 beyond the arc in the first half, made 6-of-9 three-pointers in the second half.

The Lady Royals host Simon Kenton Saturday at The Fieldhouse. The junior varsity game is at 1 pm and the varsity is at 2:30.

The Royals play at Rowan County Tuesday night.

Lady Royals and Royals post Senior Night wins

The Mason County Lady Royals and Royals both used big second halves to secure wins on Senior Night tonight at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals ended the game on a 35-9 run to beat the Greenup County Lady Musketeers 58-32.

The Royals survived a first half three-point barrage by Western Brown to rally for a 73-55 victory over the Broncos.

The Lady Royals scored the final 16 points to run their winning streak to four games.

Kara Moran led Mason County in scoring with 14 points.

Victoria  Brooks followed with 12 points and AJ Reed added 10 points.

The Lady Royals travel to Georgetown Tuesday night to play the Scott County Lady Cardinals.

In the boys game, Western Brown hit 10-of-16 three-pointers in the first half including 6-of-9 in the first quarter.

The Broncos led 31-22 before the Royals closed the gap to 34-33 at the half.

After trailing 41-35, Mason County closed the third quarter on a 15-3 run and opened the fourth quarter with an 11-3 run to lead 61-45 with 5:45 to play.

The Broncos closed to within 12 points, but the Royals scored the final six points.

Western Brown ended up 14-of-29 (48.3 percent) from beyond the arc and only had four two-point field goals.

Western Brown junior Josh Taylor hit six three-pointers and scored a game-high 26 points. He drained five treys and scored 19 points in the first half.

Leevi Dunaway led Mason County in scoring with 21 points. 

Jaylen Lofton scored 16 points, Carson Brammer tossed in 12 points and Malkolm Devine added 10 points.

Haley White hit a three-pointer in the closing seconds to give the Mason County Lady Royals a 46-43 win over the St. Henry Crusaders tonight in Erlanger.

St. Henry led by as many as 11 points and was up 42-38 midway through the fourth quarter.

Lady Royals rout Henry Clay in Lexington

The Mason County Lady Royals made quick work of the Henry Clay Lady Blue Devils in a 47-29 road win tonight.

Mason County scored the first 12 points of the game and led 14-2 at the end of the first quarter and 24-3 at halftime.

The Lady Royals out shot the Lady Blue Devils 48.6 percent to 25 percent from the field.

Mason County was led in scoring by Kara Moran and Rachel Payne with 10 points apiece.

The Mason County Lady Royals snapped a four-game losing streak with a 66-51 victory over  Frederick Douglass tonight at the Lady Royals Gym.

There were 43 fouls and 53 free throws.

Mason County senior point guard AJ Reed scored a game-high 19 points. She hit 7-of-8 free throws.

Emma Taylor scored 17 points.

Lady Royals routed by Campbell County

The Campbell County Lady Camels pulled away from the Mason County Lady Royals with a 17-0 run in the first quarter on their way to an 81-51 victory today in Claryville.

Campbell County, ranked No.1 in the state in The Courier-Journal's Litkenhous ratings, was up 25-6 at the end of the first quarter, 41-18 at the half and 67-35 at the end of the third quarter.

The Lady Camels expanded the lead to 35 points at 78-43 to trigger the running clock.

It's Mason County's fourth straight loss.

Lady Royals suffer third straight loss

The Mason County Lady Royals were held to 15 second half points and suffered their third straight loss, falling to the Scott Lady Eagles 64-49 tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Scott shot 51.3 percent from the field and scored 25 points off Mason County's 18 turnovers.

There were four ties and 14 lead chances in the first half, but the Lady Eagles outscored the Lady Royals 25-15 in the second half.

Mason County made just five field goals in the second half.

A.J. Reed led the Lady Royals in scoring with 16 points.

Lady Royals lose at Russell

The Mason County Lady Royals made just three of 15 shots (20 percent) in the second half and lost to the Russell Lady Red Devils 41-36 tonight in Flatwoods.

The game was tied 22-22 at the half. Russell outscored Mason County 10-5 in the third quarter. Both teams scored nine points in the fourth quarter.

Russell only had nine field goal attempts in the second half and made four. The Lady Red Devils were nine of 16 from the free throw line in the second half.

Russell made more free throws (14) than field goals (11) in the game.

Kara Moran led Mason County in scoring with 11 points.

Lady Royals winning streak snapped by lost to Highlands

The Mason County Lady Royals' four-game winning streak was snapped by a 46-37 loss to the Highlands Lady Bluebirds tonight at The Fieldhouse.

Mason County rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to take its only lead at 33-32 with just over six and half minutes left in the game, but the Lady Royals only made one more field goal as Highlands closed the game with a 14-4 run.

The Lady Bluebirds scored 15 points off the Lady Royals' 20 turnovers.

Highlands made 15 of 18 free throws. Both teams had 14 field goals.

Emma Taylor led Mason County in scoring with 12 points. 

Kara Moran had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Royals' game against Henry Clay in the Central Bank Martin Luther King Jr. Classic at Clark County is cancelled.

Mason County sweeps Fleming County in DH at The Fieldhouse

Mason County swept a girls and boys doubleheader against Fleming County tonight at The Fieldhouse.

The Lady Royals ran their winning streak to a season-high four games with a 68-33 victory over the Lady Panthers.

The Royals used an 18-3 run in the second half to earn their 19th straight win over the Panthers with a 70-58 victory.

Kara Moran and Haley May led the Lady Royals in scoring with 10 points apiece.

Jayden Steward had a double-double for the Royals with 22 points and 13 rebounds.

Leevi Dunaway scored 17 points and Caleb Boyd hit three three-pointers and added 15 points.

Paul Dunbar freshman Elise Ellison-Coons hit a shot at the buzzer to give the Lady Bulldogs a 46-45 win over the Mason County Lady Royals tonight in the 11th Annual Gateway Holiday Classic at Montgomery County.

The final score was Paul Dunbar's only lead of the game.

Mason County had a 13-point in the third quarter.

The Lady Royals shot 50 percent from the field in the first half, but were 5 of 16 (31.3 percent) in the second half.

For the second straight season, the Mason County Lady Royals shot 6 of 26 (23.1 percent) from the field in the first half against the Nicholas County Lady Jackets.

The Lady Royals made 14 of 21 shots (66.7 percent) from the field in the second half to rally for a 57-48 victory tonight in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic.

Mason County had a 21-0 run in the second half.  

Kara Moran scored 15 points and Emma Taylor added 10 points.

The Lady Royals have won three straight games and six of their last seven.
