Lady Royals 13th in KHSAA Class 2A state track and field meet

The Mason County Lady Royals finished in 13th place with 16 points in the KHSAA Class 2A state track and field meet at the University of Kentucky.

Rachel Payne was a triple medalist. She broke a 25-year old school record in the 300 meter hurdles with a fifth place finish in a time of 48.63. Payne was seventh in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.44, and she teamed with Abi Dawson, Olivia O'Hearn and Paige Decker in breaking its own school record in the 4x400 meter relay (4:14.18) and finishing fifth.

O'Hearn took fourth place in the pole vault and tied the school record by clearing 10 feet. 

Dawson, who set the school record in the pole vault on May 1, finished in eighth place, clearing nine feet.

Decker took eighth place in the 1600 meter run in a time of 5:33.10.

Lady Royals 2nd at Area 7 Championships, two new school records

The Mason County Lady Royals track and field team finished second in the Area 7 Championships Friday night at Rowan County.

The Ashland Kittens won the event with 145 points, three and half points ahead of Mason County.

The Mason County Royals finished in seventh place.

Two Lady Royals set new school records: eighth grader Paige Decker in the 1600 meters (5:26.37) and Elizabeth Lavinder in the 3200 meters (12:17.56). Both finished second.

Decker won the 800 meter run (2:25.81).

Abi Dawson won the pole vault (9-09.00).

Dawson and Decker teamed with Rachel Payne and Olivia O'Hearn to win the 4x400 meter relay (4:20.60)

Abi Dawson is state runner-up in pole vault with a new school record

Mason County senior Abi Dawson is the state runner-up in the indoor pole vault. 

She broke her own school record for the third consecutive weekend by clearing 10-feet, 6-inches today at Kentucky Elite Athletics pole vault facility in Shelbyville.

Mason County senior Olivia O'Hearn took fourth place with a personal record of 9-feet, 6-inches. 

Mason County eighth graders Morgan Carpenter and Alexis Decker tied for seventh place. Another Mason County eighth grader, Layla Henderson, was eighth.

Carpenter, Decker and Henderson have only been vaulting since January.

The state meet for the pole vault was held today ahead of the rest of the indoor state meet which will take place Saturday at Mason County.

Lady Royals win meet, Dawson and King break records

The Mason County Lady Royals track and field team won the Mason County Indoor Meet # 3 and Mason County seniors Abi Dawson and Te'a King set new school records Saturday.

The Lady Royals racked up 90.5 points. Male and Loveland tied for second place with 69 points.

Dawson broke her own school record in the pole vault by clearing 10 feet. That also ties the Mason County boys' indoor record. Dawson won the event. Mason County senior Olivia O'Hearn finished second by tying her personal best of nine feet.

King won the 55 meter dash in a school record time of 7.34.

Louisville Central won the boys' meet. The Mason County Royals finished in 14th place.

There were 19 girls teams and 21 boys teams in the high school meets.

Abigail Dawson sets new school record in pole vault

Mason County senior Abigail Dawson set a new school record in the pole vault at 9-09.00 Saturday at the Mason County Indoor Meet #2.

Dawson and senior Olivia O'Hearn shared the old record at 9-00.00.

Dawson took first place Saturday and O'Hearn was second by matching the old record.

Rockcastle County swept the girls' and boys' team titles.

Five new Mason County indoor track and field records

Mason County athletes set five new school records at the University of Kentucky Wildcat Classic indoor track and field meet Saturday.

"The girls team had what I believe is the most productive single day individual performance in program history," Mason County coach Mark Kachler wrote in an email.

Here is a list of the record setters and the new school records:

Te'a King, 60 meter dash, 8.41
Abigail Dawson, 400 meters, 1:04.44
Paige Decker, one mile run, 5:43.86
Paige Decker, 800 meters 2:32.28
Emily Huber, shot put, 30-9.75

It was Huber's first-ever track meet.

Alyssa Bisotti also beat the old school record for the one mile run with a time of 5.49.74.

Dawson and Olivia O'Hearn both tied their indoor meet record of 9-00.00 in the pole vault.

Lady Royals win Rowan County Invitational

The Mason County Lady Royals track and field team won the Rowan County Invitational Tuesday night.

The Lady Royals had 202 points. The Bath County Lady Wildcats finished second with 96 points.

First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:

  • Te'a King in the 100 meter dash (12.98)
  • Abigail Dawson in the 400 meter dash (1:04.04)
  • Paige Decker in the 800 meter run (2:32.11)
  • Marissa Scilley in the triple jump (32-01.00)
  • Dalton Kindt in the discus (123-00) and the shot put (45-04)
  • The girls 4x200 meter relay team (1:57.04)
  • The girls 4x400 meter relay team (4:29.72)

Lady Royals 2nd, Royals 4th at Bourbon Co. Relays

Mason County was the runner-up in the girls meet and fourth in the boys meet at the Bourbon County Relays in the cold Friday night.

Boyle County won both the girls and boys meets. The Boyle County girls are the defending state champions. 

First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:

  • The girls distance medley 400-800-400 (11:19.08)
  • Abigail Dawson in the pole vault (9-00.00)
  • Marissa Scilley in the triple jump (32-00.00)

Lady Royals win Mason County indoor meet #3

The Mason County Lady Royals won the Mason County indoor track and field meet #3 Saturday at the Carmeuse/Mason County Indoor Athletic Complex.

The Lady Royals edged Louisville Male by two points.

Bracken County was the runner-up to St. Henry in the boys' meet.

First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:
  • Alyssa Bisotti, 3000 meter run (12:15.96)
  • The girls 4x800 meter relay team (10:55.02)
  • Abigail Dawson, pole vault (8-06.00)

Abigail Dawson ties school record in pole vault at indoor meet

Mason County junior Abigail Dawson tied the school record in the pole vault (9-00.00) at the indoor track and field meet Saturday at the Carmeuse/Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Complex.

The Mason County girls won the middle school division.

Mason County hosts 1st of five indoor track and field meets

The first of five indoor track and field meets scheduled this season at the Carmeuse-Mason County School Indoor Complex took place Saturday.

St. Henry won both the girls and boys high school meets. The Mason County Lady Royals took third place and the Mason County Royals tied for third place.

First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:

Lady Royals 3rd, Royals 7th in Mason County meet

The Mason County Lady Royals took third place and the Royals finished in seventh place in the second meet of the season at the Carmeuse/Mason County Schools Indoor Athletic Complex Saturday.

Rockcastle County won the girls' meet for the second straight week while Covington Catholic won the boys' meet.

First place finishes by Mason County athletes include:
  • Dalton Kindt in the shot put (41-2.00)
  • Rheagan Sizemore in the pole vault (8-06.00)
  • The girls' 4x400 meter relay team of Abigail Dawson, Hadley Faris, Olivia O'Hearn and Rheagan Sizmore (4:37.93)

Mason Co girls 3rd, boys 4th, Stanley receives Outstanding Performance Award at Ernie Chattin Memorial Track and Field Invitational

The Mason County girls took third place and the Mason County boys finished in fourth place in the Ernie Chattin Memorial Track and Field Meet today at Ashland Blazer.

Mason County senior Jay Stanley received the Outstanding Performance Award for his discus throw of 158-00.50. That's the longest throw in Class AA this year. Stanley also won the shot put
 (48-00.00).

Other first place finishes by Mason County athletes include:
  • Jordan Frodge in the girls high jump (4-08.00)
  • Abigail Dawson in the girls pole vault (7-06.00)
  • Brendan Garrison in the boys 300 meter hurdles (43.21) and the boys high jump (38-06.25)
  • The girls 4x100 meter relay team of Leeanna Holler, Te'a King, J' Iona Smith and Marissa Scilley ((54.42)
Lewis County sophomore Leshia McNamara won the girls discus throw (100-01).

Mason County Girls are Back-To-Back XC Region Champions

The Mason County girls cross country team won the Region 6 championship for the second straight year. The Lady Royals edged Russell by three points today at Masterson Station Park in Lexington.

Mason County was led by junior Rheagan Sizemore with a fifth place finish in a time of 20:42.42.
Three other Mason County runners finished in the top 20: seventh grader Hayden Faris was 11th (21:42.57), sophomore Reagan Bierley was 16th (22:16.74) and freshman Abigail Dawson was 18th (22:34.47), 

Fleming County junior Olivia Leet, the region champion the last two years, finished third with a time of 20:10.50. Fleming County took fourth place. 

In the boys race, Mason County finished fourth and Fleming County seventh. Mason County was led by senior Tanner Kirkland in 14th place (18:38.33) and eighth grader Connor Linville in 19th place (18:49.94). Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate took 12th place (18:16.35).

Mason County Girls, Boyd County Boys Win Area 7 Championships

The Mason County girls and the Boyd County boys cross country teams won the Area 7 Championships today in Elliott County.

Mason County won the girls championship by six points over Montgomery County and Fleming County. Boyd County won the boys title by seven points over Russell.

Nicholas County senior Shelby Watkins won the girls race with a time of 18:23. 

Three Mason County runners finished in the top 20- junior Rheagan Sizemore 10th (20:16), freshman Abigail Dawson 16th (21:03) and seventh grader Hayden Faris 17th (21:03.80).  

Fleming County also had three runners in the top 20- junior Olivia Leet 3rd (19:13), senior Julie Perkins 14th (20:42) and senior Abby Fearin 19th (21:37).

Boyd County freshman Elijah Miller won the boys race with a time of 16:09. 

Mason County senior Tanner Kirkland was 13th (17:41) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (18:12).

Mason Co. Girls Second, Augusta Boys 6th in Roy Wright Invitational

The Mason County girls cross country team took second place in Rowan County's Roy Wright Invitational Saturday. The Lady Royals were led by junior Rheagan Sizemore who finished fourth in a time of 20:53.70.

Four other Lady Royals finished in the top 20- freshman Abigail Dawson was 14th (22:24.90), seventh grader Hayden Faris was 15th (22:33.08), freshman Chloe Adams was 17th (22:53.40) and sophomore Reagan Bierley was 20th (23:01.90).

The Augusta Panthers finished in sixth place in the boys race and were led by senior Camyrn Snapp with a second place finish in a time of 17:49.40.  Fleming County sophomore Robert Applegate was 13th (18:57.80), Augusta sophomore David Reed was 16th (19:10.60) and St. Patrick freshman Paco Franco was 19th (19:16.50).

Jay Stanley is the Class AA State Champion in Shot Put

Mason County junior Jay Stanley is the Class AA state champion in the shot put with a toss of 50 feet, two inches. Stanley is the state runner-up in the discus throw at 150 feet, nine inches.
Mason County junior Brendon Garrison took third place in the boys 300 meter hurdles in a time of 42.12. The Mason County girls 4x800 meter relay team of Rheagan Sizemore, Hannah Jackson, Abigail Dawson and Cara Woods took sixth place and set a school record by almost 12 seconds with a time of 10:06.04. The state track and field meet was held today at the University of Kentucky.
Paducah Tilghman won the boys title by one point over Highlands while the North Oldham girls won their second straight championship. The Mason County boys finished in 10th place. The Mason County girls were 29th.

Mason Co. girls 2nd, boys 4th in Track & Field Region Meet

The Mason County girls track and field team's streak of six straight region championships was snapped with a runner-up finish Saturday at Ashland. Ashland Blazer won the region with 157 points. Mason County had 142 points. Russell won the boys' meet with 123 points. Mason County was fourth with 64 points. Mason County athletes who won region titles include:

Jordan Frodge, high jump, 4-10
Brendon Garrison, 110 meter hurdles, 18:10 and 300 meter hurdles, 43:49
