Ashton Feldhaus named women's basketball coach at Morehead State University

Ashton Feldhaus has been hired as the women's basketball coach at Morehead State University.

She is the daughter of former Mason County Royal and current Madison Central boys' basketball coach Allen Feldhaus Jr.

An introductary press conference is scheduled Thursday at noon in the south lobby of the Academic Athletic Center.

Legendary Mason County coach Allen Feldhaus died this morning

Legendary Mason County boys' basketball coach Allen Feldhaus Sr. died this morning after a long battle with cancer. He was 77.

Feldhaus was a basketball, baseball and football star at Boone County High School.

He played basketball for Adolph Rupp at the University of Kentucky. He was a catcher on the UK baseball team and played minor league baseball in the Washington Senators farm system.

Feldhaus' first coaching job was at Russell County. He was hired as Mason County's coach in 1975.

Feldhaus guided the Royals to their first 10th Region championship in 1981. That team was the state runner-up.

The 1981-82 team won its first 31 games before losing to Virgie in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament.

Feldhaus also guided the Royals to 10th Region championships in 1985 and 1987.

In 16 seasons at Mason County, Feldhaus compiled a 325-136 record. His teams won nine district titles. He is the winningest coach at Mason County.

Feldhaus coached the 1982 Kentucky All-Star team in the annual series with the Indiana All-Stars.

He was twice named the Courier-Journal Kentucky Coach of the Year and won the Kentucky Post Coach of the Year two times.

Feldhaus picked up his 500th career victory in 1990.

He also coached baseball and served as athletic director at Mason County.

Feldhaus coached his three sons at Mason County. All three played in the state tournament. Allen Jr. is the head coach at Madison Central. He guided the Indians to the 2013 state championship. Willie is the head coach at Male. Deron played at UK and he is one of the "Unforgettables."

Feldhaus owned Kenton Station Golf Course with his wife, Lee Anne, and his youngest son, Deron.

I had the pleasure of having Coach Feldhaus as a teacher his first year at Mason County. Then, when I was starting my play-by-play career, I was blessed to call Mason County's games during those fantastic seasons in the 1980s. Coach Feldhaus could not have been nicer to me. It was an honor to work with a legend.

Mason County will honor former coach Allen Feldhaus Thursday night

Mason County will honor former basketball coach Allen Feldhaus between the boys and girls games Thursday night in the US Bank Mike Murphy Classic.

Feldhaus is Mason County's winningest coach. During his 16 seasons as the Royals' coach he compiled a 325-136 record.

He guided the Royals to eight district titles and their first four 10th Region championships.

Mason County was the state runner-up in 1981.

The 1981-82 team won its first 31 games before losing to Virgie in the quarterfinal round of the state tournament.

Feldhaus was named The Courier-Journal's Kentucky High School Coach of the Year in 1982 and 1986.

The Royals play the Madison Central Indians Thursday at 6 p,m,  Madison Central is coached by Allen Feldhaus Jr.

The Lady Royals play the Covington Holy Cross Lady Indians Thursday at 8 p.m.

Madison Central Basketball Court Will Be Named Allen Feldhaus Jr. Court

The basketball court at Madison Central High School will be named Allen Feldhaus Jr. Court. A rendering of the court was unveiled at the Madison County Board of Education meeting Thursday. Feldhaus has compiled a 456-224 record in 22 seasons at Madison Central. He guided the Indians to the 2013 state championship. Feldhaus was a standout player on Mason County's 1981 state runner-up team.

Deron Feldhaus and Allen Feldhaus Junior Win Kenton Station/Fleming Co. 2-Man Scramble in Playoff

Deron Feldhaus chipped in for an eagle on the first hole of a sudden death playoff to give him and his brother, Allen Feldhaus Jr., a win over Rex Schalch and Mark Moore in the Kenton Station/Fleming County 2-Man Scramble today at Fleming County Golf Association. Both teams finished regulation play at 19-under 123. Schalch and Moore fired a 12-under 60 (with a 28 on the front nine) today. The Feldhaus brothers shot a 12-under 58 Saturday at Kenton Station Golf Course. Marvin Schalch and Bill O'Mara finished third at 124.
