Lady Saints edged by Augusta 55-54 in OT

Alexis Shields made 1-of-2 free throws with 1.6 seconds left in overtime to give the Augusta Lady Panthers a 55-54 victory over the St. Patrick Lady Saints tonight in the Hoops for Hope at the Panthers Den in Augusta.

With the score tied at 54-54, St. Patrick had a chance to take the lead, but missed a shot and was called for a foul on the rebound.

Augusta was in the double bonus. Shields missed the first free throw, but made the second.

The Lady Panthers outscored the Lady Saints 11-10 in the extra period.

Nicole Arthur scored a game-high 21 points for Augusta.

Three Lady Saints scored in double figures, led by Justina Klee with 18 points. Libby Gallenstein scored 12 points and Caroline McKay added 10 points.

St. Patrick is back in action Wednesday night at home against Fleming County.

Lady Royals defeat Augusta 74-29

The Mason County Lady Royals jumped out to a 16-0 lead and scored 20 points off Augusta's 16 first quarter turnovers on their way to a 74-29 victory over the Lady Panthers tonight in the upper bracket semifinal game of the 39th District Tournament at The Fieldhouse.

 Mason County led 25-4 at the end of the first quarter and 52-9 at the half.

The second half was played with a running clock.

Victoria Brooks and AJ Reed led the Lady Royals in scoring with 13 points apiece.

Emma Taylor followed with 12 points and Kara Moran added 10 points.

Katie Stanton and Alexis Shields each scored 10 points for the Lady Panthers.

Mason County advances to the championship game Thursday night.
